I was browsing through the Amazon Prime reading again looking for something funny when I came across Adventures of a Vegan Vamp by Cate Lawley. The title alone made me chuckle, so I decided to give it a try. Mallory goes out with her coworkers on a Tuesday night for drinks and decides to walk home. Three days later, she wakes up in her own bed exhausted and feeling ill. It's Friday. She has no memory of getting home, has lost 25 pounds, and can no longer hold down solid food. She goes to the doc ...more

Excellent! You have a staid 39 year old professional who gets turned into a vampire. Mallory knows something is wrong with her but a trip to a doctor who is working gets her information she would probably rather not had. Mr. Clean, aka Anton, gives her a card with info to use in case of an emergency. Does dieing count as as an emergency, lol! She is starving to death but knows she can drink water. Alex responds to her phone call and the fun begins. Alex is a wizard/enforcer and a bit more. He ha ...more

Unwittingly turned into a vampire. No wonder Mallory is worried. Worry turns into peeved and the story is off and running with a mystery to solve. Mallory isn't one to let anyone walk over her, her attitude had me laughing out loud. A well written, outlandish tale that had me looking for the next part of her story. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Mallory Andrews goes out for a quick drink with her coworkers after work on Tuesdsy night. But waking up on Friday, she has no memory of the last few days, and an unbelievable thirst and unexplained weight loss. When it seems she can't keep food down and her energy level is practically nil, she calls around trying to find a doctor that will see her for an emergency visit. What she learns at this visit totally freaks her out...seems she is now a vampire. But even worse than that, she cannot stand ...more

I truly enjoyed this book. So much so I had a hard time putting it down. I have two small kids (under 4) at home and still read it in 3 days so that says a lot for its addictiveness. I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and I must say I was skeptical of the concept and didn't expect to like it. I read a lot of fantasy and couldn't imagine how you could have a vegan vampire. Well Cate nailed it!! I couldn't imagine it but it was an extremely interesting concept an ...more

This is a totally different look at the vampire world...there's mystery, humor, a hot guy and a new vamp that's not like any other.
I loved the characters...our heroine is feisty (which is a new look for her) and quirky and just very likable and believable. The hero is touchy, a little grumpy , dangerous and delicious.
The story was interesting and so refreshingly different from other vamp stories. It's a great start to a new series.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

Adventures of a Vegan Vamp (Vegan Vamp #1)
by Cate Lawley

Okay, I admit that the title is what drew me to this novel. The title made me smile, the price (free on the Kindle lists) was right, so what could go wrong? Well, I almost stopped reading the book about 1/4 way through, not because I didn't like the story and not because I didn't like the characters, but because of errors. In fact, it was because I liked the story and the characters that I soldiered on. Happily, about half way through the b

Solve your own murder mystery.

An unusual story for me. Not exactly my thing, the vampire based type, but I read along and it held my interest. A dedicated business woman out for drinks with co-workers, catches the eye of a serial killer. She awakens from a drugged cocktail, half dead or undead? Something's off. She can't stand the thought of blood, she lost over twenty five ponds in three days, she's hungry but can't eat. Her life and looks are turned upside down. She has huge gaps of time lost.

Very cute

I was hooked by the third page. The descriptions of the heroine's coworkers was priceless. I remember some just like them. I mean, here she is, buying their drinks and they are backbiting and chewing on her and putting her down. As the main character says, how it became her fault that that they were lazy and bad at their jobs was a puzzle. These are such a type--nasty, lazy, malicious gossips who are always texting someone or watching Netflix on their phones and always digging at the per

Let me first say that I am very surprised. I really decided to read this book just to throw something odd into what I usually read this seems like it would be one of those silly type of supernatural books and it really wasn't. Of course it was, however, it was more realistic in the long run then any other vampire book that I've read. It is not gross or scary and the author manage to write a story without putting pages and pages of unrealistic six and it also… Give this a read if you were wading ...more

"Adventures of a Vegan Vamp: A Paranormal Cozy Mystery" (Vegan Vamp Mysteries Book 1) is a fun read written by Cate Lawley. Thirty-nine-year-old Mallory Andrews is really good at her job, has a great salary, but isn't well liked by her coworkers. But she's mostly okay by that. Without even realizing it, Mallory finds herself back in her apartment and is not feeling too good. After several days of the worst flu she's seeming ever experienced she goes to the doctor and finds out that she doesn't h ...more

How is a girl to survive if she can't stand the sight and smell of blood?

Brilliant! After work drinks should not have ended up with her becoming a vampire. Not only that but a vampire that cannot stand to be around blood. How is she to survive? Who turned her? Answering those questions and trying to stay alive are the order of the day. A wonderful main character who is totally ignorant of the supernatural world but is feisty, humorous and full of life. Cover/Title: I love the playful cover. Of course, red makes you think vampires so it is the perfect color for the cover. The title really drew me in though. How in the world can a vampire be a vegan?

Characters:I loved these characters! Mallory & Alex are great together. She is totally not the typical vampire and I so want these two to get together!

Plot: Mallory wakes up and realizes that she has lost a chunk of time. Then she becomes concerned about her lack of appetite and weight loss. Thi

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

Vegan Vamp (Origin Story)

Mallory was made a vampire by a rogue element of the Society. She is Very different than the made vampire (a human bitten and drained by a vampire) and a born vampire. She is somewhat also an anomaly. She is partially precognitive. She has NO interest in downing blood, in fact, she become sick at the mere sight and smell of blood. So she manages to survive n fruits, vegetables, and vegetarian shakes. She can also see ghosts. She becomes a quasi- detective with a wizard s

Different, loved it

Mallory woke up and discovered she had a problem....she was a vampire. She didn't remember what happened or who hit her. This book is a fun romp into mystery and fantasy. I enjoyed the totally different look into a world of supernatural explosion. Someone was biting and turning some slam while murdering others. Unlike other camps Mallory could not stomach blood. She also could do things other camps couldnt. Let your imagination explore new ideas and have a fun read.

Definitely not the usual Vampire story. Mallory gets bitten by a rouge Vampire and suffers through a painful transition from a normal human being to a Vampire. The only problem, a Vampire lives of blood. And Mallory can’t stand blood. She needs to figure out how to survive without it. On top of it, she is now part of a Secret Society. Some of her new colleagues are somewhat helpful, others want her really dead. And there is the rogue Vampire to be taken care of.
All together an easy, funny read.

I really liked this book. Hopefully, the series will continue such that I can count it a new favorite. There were none of the aspects that usually make me cringe with cozy mysteries. The amateur sleuth doesn't repeatedly do unbearably stupid things. In fact, since she was paid to investigate, she wasn't, strictly speaking, an amateur...just a newbie. I liked the characters. I believe that the author gave herself a really good foundation upon which to build a world.

Adventures of a Vegan Vamp: A Paranormal Cozy Mystery (Vegan Vamp Mysteries Book 1) by Cate Lawley

The story moves at a fast pace, with an original plot and very likable character (Mallory). This is not an ordinary vampire story. Told through Mallory's voice, one day she wakes up and finds she is not the same. On a mission to find the vampire who killed and turned her, turns out to be a delightful read. I highly recommend to those who love a good vampire story.

Amazing! I was in kind of a reading funk and searching through amazon to find something to tide me over for a little while, and I stumbled upon this golden gem. A 39 year old woman in the professional work force who hates her colleagues but needs her job, gets turned into a blood hating vampire! I can’t tell you how many books I’ve read where the idea of a “vegan “vampire just kind of fell flat, but this had my lol-ing with every turn of the page.

A really fun vampire book

Cate Lawley has written a fun cozy vampire mystery that will keep you glued to the pages. Smoothly written with nicely drawn characters discover the secret world of vampires and witches in Austin, Texas and how they control their world . When our heroine wakes up in her apartment as a newly made vampire and a severe aversion to blood she finds unexpected changes within herself as well. I plan to follow this series

A Different Kind of Supernatural Story

Took me a minute to realize this was worth reading. It changes the supernatural world all around. You have to pay dues, learn to eat if you can't tolerate blood and are a new vampire. You can't break the rules. You must learn their ways are get taken advantage of. Just a fun book . I look forward to reading some more of this author's books.

Terrific

This is a delightful breezy story written in a talkative matter with swell characters. Mallory is a newly turned vampire who has no clue what is going on. Her zest a determination get her on the track for help and to see who was the twerp who upended her life.
I throughly enjoyed this book. The story development and characters made it so much fun. I absolutely want the rest of them.

A fun read

I wasn't sure about this book but I am so glad I read it. Meet Mallory. She woke up starving and unable to eat her normal food. Thinking possibly the flu, she went to the doctor and discovered that she has been infected with the vampire virus. That's right she's a vegan vampire. Being a baby vampire has really begun to mess up her happy. If you enjoy a funny and entertaining cozy mystery, you will enjoy this book.

A vampure who hates blood, unusual and funny

Nothing like waking up, having lost days and 25 pounds, and finding out you are a vampire. Now imagine that blood makes you sick, but vegan protein drinks and carrot juice are great. Mallory has to make her way in this new world and it is fun to experience. I can't wait until I read the next one.

This was a fun little read!

Very enjoyable and easy to read. Loved the fact that it was clean and had no cursing! A few little innuendo's but an altogether cute book.

I used to be a vegan and this title caught my eye as it's pretty impossible to be a "vegan vampire"! But the author actually had me believing and into this plot!

A funny good time

This book was a delight to read and I love Mallory as a character. She’s funny and takes things with such a calm attitude and no sarcasm or bite. She’s a different kind of vampire and it’s hilarious to read about her. The side characters are also great and I can’t wait to see what or if a love interest pops up for her.
