Undead and vegan? Not the afterlife this girl had planned.

Waking up thin is one thing. But waking up gaunt, hangry, and undead makes for a very bad day. Mallory's killer better hide, because she's just discovered blood, meat, and dairy don't agree with her, and a future with no cheese is grim indeed. She's out to find her killer... and maybe a vegan cheese that doesn't

I was browsing through the Amazon Prime reading again looking for something funny when I came across Adventures of a Vegan Vamp by Cate Lawley. The title alone made me chuckle, so I decided to give it a try. Mallory goes out with her coworkers on a Tuesday night for drinks and decides to walk home. Three days later, she wakes up in her own bed exhausted and feeling ill. It's Friday. She has no memory of getting home, has lost 25 pounds, and can no longer hold down solid food. She goes to the ...more

This fits with the “better than I expected from Kindle Unlimited Books” category. I was happy to find a lighthearted read to enjoy this time of year. Continued this cozy series through all available books.

Mallory Andrews woke up dead. Though she didn’t know that at the time. Now her life is changed forever and she intends to find the murderous rat who killed her and turned her into a vegan vampire. Because the reality of her new diet has her very cranky and besides, who wants to go through life without chocolate?

What an amusing paranormal story! Light-hearted and fun with a mystery to solve makes this a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Mallory is

just ok. I thought it sounded fun. I was hoping to like it enough to do the whole series, as it is free on kindle unlimited. But, nope. Can't read anymore of it. I like the premise. But it is just not all that interesting in regards to plot. Although it is fairly short, it just didn't hold my interest. I picked it up an put it down several times. I am sort of finisher type of reader; so I did skim it the last half to find out what happened.

Unwittingly turned into a vampire. No wonder Mallory is worried. Worry turns into peeved and the story is off and running with a mystery to solve. Mallory isn't one to let anyone walk over her, her attitude had me laughing out loud. A well written, outlandish tale that had me looking for the next part of her story. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

So much fun! Mallory is turned into a vampire but she cannot drink blood. In desperation she starts trying different foods and drinks to determine what she can eat. I laughed out loud as Mallory tries to figure out her new life as a vampire. Original and entertaining, I will be reading more from this series.

I would likely give this one three stars if the word "vegan" in the title actually meant something. When I started this book, I initially thought it was as awful as the cover made it look, and I would not have continued reading had it not been a book for our reading group. Yet after a few chapters, and possibly despite myself, I started to enjoy it. It is light and fast-paced, and not to be taken seriously, which is to its credit.

Not to its credit is the way we are plopped right into the middle

Excellent! You have a staid 39 year old professional who gets turned into a vampire. Mallory knows something is wrong with her but a trip to a doctor who is working gets her information she would probably rather not had. Mr. Clean, aka Anton, gives her a card with info to use in case of an emergency. Does dieing count as as an emergency, lol! She is starving to death but knows she can drink water. Alex responds to her phone call and the fun begins. Alex is a wizard/enforcer and a bit more. He ...more

I truly enjoyed this book. So much so I had a hard time putting it down. I have two small kids (under 4) at home and still read it in 3 days so that says a lot for its addictiveness. I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and I must say I was skeptical of the concept and didn't expect to like it. I read a lot of fantasy and couldn't imagine how you could have a vegan vampire. Well Cate nailed it!! I couldn't imagine it but it was an extremely interesting concept ...more

This is a totally different look at the vampire world...there's mystery, humor, a hot guy and a new vamp that's not like any other.
I loved the characters...our heroine is feisty (which is a new look for her) and quirky and just very likable and believable. The hero is touchy, a little grumpy , dangerous and delicious.
The story was interesting and so refreshingly different from other vamp stories. It's a great start to a new series.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

The cover and synopsis are what drew me to this when I found it on Amazon, not gonna lie. This wasn't exactly what I expected at all but I enjoyed this short, fun and light read anyway.

However, I'm not sure if I enjoyed it enough to grab book 2 and keep reading this story. I liked Mallory well enough and i feel I could be her in my discovery of being a vamp and being basically left to my own devices when it comes to learning stuff about my new self and this new world I'm in. Alex intrigues

Free book with good reviews so I chanced it. First quarter almost gave up as I couldn't stand the main characters. Thankfully everything changed and I actually really enjoyed this book. Not as predictable or cheesy as I find cosy mysteries lately. Yet clean.
Will try the next one.

This was a fun read with likeable characters, an interesting plot and a newly turned vampire who can't stand blood.
I was hoping the story would keep going, so a bit of a disappointment; the good new is there is book 2

Mallory Andrews goes out for a quick drink with her coworkers after work on Tuesdsy night. But waking up on Friday, she has no memory of the last few days, and an unbelievable thirst and unexplained weight loss. When it seems she can't keep food down and her energy level is practically nil, she calls around trying to find a doctor that will see her for an emergency visit. What she learns at this visit totally freaks her out...seems she is now a vampire. But even worse than that, she cannot stand ...more

Solve your own murder mystery.

An unusual story for me. Not exactly my thing, the vampire based type, but I read along and it held my interest. A dedicated business woman out for drinks with co-workers, catches the eye of a serial killer. She awakens from a drugged cocktail, half dead or undead? Something's off. She can't stand the thought of blood, she lost over twenty five ponds in three days, she's hungry but can't eat. Her life and looks are turned upside down. She has huge gaps of time lost.

I love cozy mysteries to help forget life for a while and Adventures of a Vegan Vampire sure fit the bill! It is a fun, light story with really great and likeable characters! The story had me right from the beginning and I read right through to the end without realizing it! I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys mysteries that keep you entertained with loads of laughs thrown in too!

Adventures of a Vegan Vamp (Vegan Vamp #1)
by Cate Lawley

Okay, I admit that the title is what drew me to this novel. The title made me smile, the price (free on the Kindle lists) was right, so what could go wrong? Well, I almost stopped reading the book about 1/4 way through, not because I didn't like the story and not because I didn't like the characters, but because of errors. In fact, it was because I liked the story and the characters that I soldiered on. Happily, about half way through the

OPINION OF BOOK: ADVENTURES OF A VEGAN VAMP is a brilliantly told twist on an old story. Mallory starts out as an unhappy person, who doesn’t have any friends, doesn’t really like her job or her co-workers. This book made me laugh and kept me engaged. There is nothing that is super gross, so it falls under the cozy category. The story is well written, and the storyline executed brilliantly. The characters are life-like and original.

After a night out drinking with lackluster coworkers, Mallory awakens half a week later and 25 pounds lighter. A trip to the urgent care puts her in the path of the local Society for the Study of Occult and Paranormal Phenomena. Since she is violently sickened by blood, Mallory becomes a vegan vampire: living on virgin Bloody Marys and vegan nutrient shakes.

I would definitely read more of this series, given the opportunity. It's much like a 3 p.m. snack: a good pick me up on a bad day. The

This was just a fun book! Not as funny as I hoped it to be, but funny enough. I would give this book 4 stars, but Ensure doesn't have vegan shakes. Maybe in the world of this book they have a vegan version, but in my opinion it just shows a lack of research from Cate Lawley. So I am giving this book only three stars for that.

So imagine you are a work-a-holic and are drinking with collegues you don't really like all that much. Then the next morning you wake up with 25 pounds lost and thirsty as

‘She's out to find her killer... and maybe a vegan cheese that doesn't melt her nose hairs.'

At first, I didn’t get into it. I couldn’t relate to the main character, and I didn’t know where the story was going. I continued reading to see how things changed, and I started to appreciate it. There is subtle humour in this story, in the way the language is used by the author, and I had a light chuckle every few pages. More and more, I became invested in the main character’s frustrations with

Very cute

I was hooked by the third page. The descriptions of the heroine's coworkers was priceless. I remember some just like them. I mean, here she is, buying their drinks and they are backbiting and chewing on her and putting her down. As the main character says, how it became her fault that that they were lazy and bad at their jobs was a puzzle. These are such a type--nasty, lazy, malicious gossips who are always texting someone or watching Netflix on their phones and always digging at the

Mallory is a terrible person who doesn't really care about anyone, only her job and what it can get her. Until she's attacked, changed, and dropped into a world she had no clue to exist. What's worse, she isn't your normal vampire, but a vegan one. One thing's for certain, she's gonna fine that rat who killed her.

What I didn't like: It took way too long to get to the plot, and when it did, it was wrapped up easily and quickly. I almost wondered how some of it had worked out. To me. it felt a

The title intrigued me enough to ask a few questions (What would a vegan vamp eat? Just vegans? Vegetarians? Etc.) and like any inquiring mind, I decided I wanted answers to my questions.

It turned out that I got hooked a few pages in.

So after going out drinking with her co-workers, Mallory Andrews wakes up dead (Or rather undead) with no memory of the previous days and some pretty odd quirks to boot. She goes to the doctor to find out what could be the issue and finds out that she is a

Let me first say that I am very surprised. I really decided to read this book just to throw something odd into what I usually read this seems like it would be one of those silly type of supernatural books and it really wasn't. Of course it was, however, it was more realistic in the long run then any other vampire book that I've read. It is not gross or scary and the author manage to write a story without putting pages and pages of unrealistic six and it also… Give this a read if you were wading ...more
