Well-written and satisfying conclusion to an amazing trilogy. The author did a terrific job with both the characters and story line and the book had me engaged until the end. I would challenge anyone to not find the main character, Ranger Matt, the epitome of the western hero; A man of few words, determined action, and sincere common decency. He is also a man who everyone can relate to...someone worried about money, confused within his marriage and embittered with the complexities of dealing wit ...more

INTO THE HARD HILLS is the third and final book of the "Hard Land to Rule" trilogy by author Anthony Whitt, and in my opinion it is the best of the three, especially the last half of the book.
Matt is once again in a position where he goes back to being a Ranger for several reasons, and along on this trip once again is Nate, and young Travis gets his first taste of what it's like to be a Ranger.
Anthony Whitt does a great job of building up to the final battle while tying up all loose ends with ev

A really great read does not stop for a few smears of salsa on the first page of chapter 14…

I figure those salsa smears (and I make a really mean salsa) say all that needs to be said about Anthony Whitt’s “Into the Hard Hills.” As breathless a read as any I have ever had this book keeps you reading at breakneck speed to find out what is going to happen next! The third and final book in Whitt’s trilogy of life in the high hills of Texas when Rangers were the only thing standing between Comanche

Into the Hard Hills is the third book in the Texas Rangers historical fiction that Whitt has written. It is a stand-alone work, but best read as the third installment to grasp the tension between Matt, the protagonist and Ames, the antagonist.

Into the Hard Hills gets Texas Ranger Matt out of jail where he was locked up for bogus reasons. The governor sets him free in order to secure safe transportation along a route that has been targeted by Indians. He picks up the assigned task after the previ

If you haven't picked up this trilogy, it is a must have. Fast paced, which I love and even though the characters aren't in a current day setting, they are like folks you might know and like or possibly despise! Makes putting the book down hard. Anthony Whitt is a fantastic writer and I look forward to reading more novels by him. Would be great as a mini-series or movie.

Anthony Whitt does a spectacular job of ending this western trilogy set in the Austin area of Texas after the Civil War. The storytelling is on par with his first two books in the series - engaging, interesting and well written. Matt, the main character, continues his battle against corrupt government officials to hold on to his hard earned land, family and friends. He even earns the respect of an unexpected ally. Not to give away any spoilers but whatever Matt ends up with at the conclusion is ...more

This is the third book in the Hard land to rule trilogy. It continues to tell the story of settlers in the Texas hill country defending themselves from corrupt politicians. It also tells of encounters with the Indians who lived on the Texas hill country.
