"I wanted to meet the one who accepts me for who I am, who loves me for all my faults and my quirks, and who will be there by my side for whatever challenges come our way."
The matters of the heart are a complicated one. Paraphrasing Blaise Pascal's famous quote, the heart has its own reasons which reason itself does not understand. Truly, it is human nature to be inquisitive — poking, sticking our noses where it doesn't belong, meddling with "things" that we aren't supposed to be tampering wit

WOOOOOOOOOW.
There isnt enough stars.
Holy fuck, that book was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish.
With a cliffhanger at the end of every chapter, all 103 of them, and each of them littered with ethical and emotional dilemmas, this book was incredibly hard to put down; Marrs immediately draws you into each storyline and you have to know what happens

this book is the reason i now believe in second chances. john marrs’ ‘the good samaritan’ was one of the worst books i read this year (if ever), so i thought myself crazy to pick up another one of his novels. but this sounded SO interesting, i just couldnt stay away. and guess what? ive never been happier!

this is very ‘black mirror’-esque, which i love! but its not as sci-fi heavy as you would think. this focuses on the people, their relationships, and how they interact with each other in regard

An immensely seductive story, clever and unpredictable, modern and just the sort of book to get completely lost in.

" A decade after scientists discover everyone has a gene they share with just one other person Millions have taken the test, desperate to find true love. Now five more people meet their match but even soul mates have secrets and some are more shocking and deadlier than others"

This was a book that stayed glued to my hands, I really was so enthralled with not only the superb writing but the plot.
What an original high quality top marks concept of a wonderfully woven story.

It's unlike any story that I've read before, so, this is so going to be remembered by me in the future as it stands out because of it.

Falling in love.
Seems straight forward.
Attraction, like, emotions, appeal.

So many internet dating sites out there, each promising to match you to other individuals who, like you, are looking to find their one true love. Disappointments abound, bad matches are made. Ready to give up? What if a mere mouth swab could do the trick for you? Match you with your other half, as it were. It's DNA, should be foolproof. Takes the stress and the guesswork out of the whole dating scene, and it has taken the world by storm.

If you are a fan of Black Mirror this book is for you!

Thanks to modern science the gene that is present with those love at first sight encounters is isolated and used so you can now find your one and only true love, that ever so elusive soulmate. What's the catch? Well that one and only compatibility can literally be anywhere and anyone they can be decades older then you, or live across the world, or have a mental/physical handicap or be the completely opposite gender you find yourse

The One is a story about a DNA matching service that allows people to find their one, true match. This story follows the lives of 5 different people who all recently received notification of their match. Each character faces challenging situations and must deal with their own secrets.

It’s an interesting story and while some of the characters’ storylines were more intriguing than others, I felt curious about each of them and eager to see how their situations would pan out. There were more twists

This story is about five persons who took Match Your DNA test to find their soulmates. I liked that idea but just for the story because I don’t need my DNA tell me who’s my husband! This story is about when they found out about their Matches, how they’re dealing with them. The first half was a little slow but the second half was better because of consequences that show themselves. I really don’t like all the characters, I liked just Nick. The story wasn’t that mysterious I expected. And

John Marrs is a modern day Scheherazade!

Every chapter is a cliffhanger and with toothpicks holding my eyes open, he beckoned me to turn another page and calculate my sleep to curiosity ratio. And with chapters only a few pages long, that’s a lot of calculating.

Simple premise, what if you could be perfectly matched to your soul mate with a DNA test? Your one and only? The more complicated premise, however, is whether that kind of pre-destination is more powerful than love or the laws of attract

Here I was thinking this was such a lovely romantic book, sighing at every DNA MATCH made, hoping that each of our 5 protagonists (view spoiler) would have their HEA; until that is, the story pivots and then becomes a psych-thriller on steroids.

"What is happening? How did we get from there to here"- I kept asking.

I don't think Marrs knows he's scarred me for life. I mean, who does he think he is playing with my heart as

This premise was so cool. You swab your mouth for your DNA, send it in, then you get back the result of your soul-mate. They learned that it is a gene, and we all have a perfect match. Easy-peasy, right?

Sure, sure. That really clears things up.

Because, soul-mate gene or not, things can get a bit messy in life, and that happens in this book. A lot.

Our story follows five different people on their journey. One's a serial killer, so that's fun. Guess who he gets matched with? Also, one is a dude ge

I couldn’t get enough of this fabulous book!

The One is kind of like a warped online Blind Date meets Black Mirror, where you are provided with contact details for your one and only perfect love match based on your DNA. What could possibly go wrong?

There were numerous ‘gasp, omg, jaw on floor, noooo!’ moments throughout this twisty turny thriller. This book had my heart pounding at times!

Let me start by saying I absolutely LOVED the concept of 'the One' by John Marrs. Being an old romantic at heart the idea of there being only 1 person, genetically made for each of us regardless of our gender, skin tone, age or religion really grabbed my attention and got my mind thinking.

This book focuses on 5 couples who are joining the millions of other people who have signed up to matchyourdna.com to find their perfect match, however, don't be fooled into thinking this is a love story. It c

Initially I found this book so thought provoking and was quickly drawn into it. I loved it and to use the well known cliche "I couldn't put it down" I was intrigued by the original premise behind the story... even though it was an unlikely concept and needed a suspension of belief to accept the idea. A world wide very successful DNA matching test is available for a small fee. The test claims that anyone who takes it will find their perfect mate. The idea behind the test is that we all have just ...more

So, that was fun! A super quick, addictive, clever book that balanced light domestic drama with some real moral and ethical questions. Short chapters made following the five main characters an easy task and brilliant plotting made putting this book down near impossible! 4.5 stars for freshness and an escape from heavy emotional contemporary fiction and poorly executed thrillers.

I dabbled in the online dating scene about 10 years ago before the swipe right Tinder generation. It was great fun but there was also an expected amount of creepy people out there. It was not a completely wasted experience as I am still very good friends with 2 of the men I met on the site.

So, when I came across this book I was not interested, I have my own share of weird dating stories, no need to read a book about it. But then a friend told me how much fun the reading experience was, and I dec

What a wonderful, compulsive read that I just had to finish in one sitting - reading way past a reasonable bed time and as a result spending the next day way too tired. It is a bit outside my normal genre; I do not read many books classified as "thriller" but I just loved the premise so much that I decided to give it a go - and I am so pleased I did.
