What could possibly go wrong?

I have to hand it to John Marrs for bringing such a modern concept to the thriller genre. And one that happens to encompass my very favorite topic, love. Not sharing the same fondness for that loaded L-word shouldn’t mean writing this one off though. There are plenty of dark thrills, unforeseen twists and riveting plot sequences to distract from the lovey-dovey musings.

If providing a simple DNA sample could result in finding your soulmate, would you partake? This

A foolproof DNA test that will determine with absolute certainty who you should spend the rest of your life with. (Wow!)
Will it break up existing marriages...probably! Will it have people moving across the globe to find their betrothed....absolutely! Could anything here go wrong? Ha! What do you think!?

I knew I wanted to read this one from the moment I read the blurb! I was so excited to get my hands on it!

A wild and entertaining psychological thriller about making the ultimate love match and living “happily ever after.”

The plot: Characters take DNA tests in the hopes of being matched with their soul mate. 6 couples are matched, and while some find love, others find themselves living a nightmare.

The narrative: The narrative is comprised of 6 POV’s. Two males and four females share their journey on being matched with “the one.” This structure was a little frustrating in the beginning, as I could

Holy fuck, that book was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish.
With a cliffhanger at the end of every chapter, all 103 of them, and each of them littered with ethical and emotional dilemmas, this book was incredibly hard to put down; Marrs immediately draws you into each storyline and you have to know what happens

"I wanted to meet the one who accepts me for who I am, who loves me for all my faults and my quirks, and who will be there by my side for whatever challenges come our way."
The matters of the heart are a complicated one. Paraphrasing Blaise Pascal's famous quote, the heart has its own reasons which reason itself does not understand. Truly, it is human nature to be inquisitive — poking, sticking our noses where it doesn't belong, meddling with "things" that we aren't supposed to be tampering

Outstandingly original!!

I don’t know how I missed this book when it was first published, but it skated underneath my radar until recently. I went into this one blind. The synopsis really doesn’t prepare one for what is about to transpire!!

Online dating services and apps has nothing on ‘Match Your DNA’. Get tested, and if your soul mate has also been tested, you will be matched to the absolute love of your life. If only it were that simple….

I really enjoyed reading The One. It's actually scary that this could quite possibly happen.

Times have moved on in the wonderful world of dating.
There are now so many ways to find your perfect match... but to what cost?.... can you really ever be completely sure who your meeting.
Through the likes of Tinder, speed dating, etc...

What if there was a way you could be sure of finding your perfect match..... would you be interested??

this book is the reason i now believe in second chances. john marrs’ ‘the good samaritan’ was one of the worst books i read this year (if ever), so i thought myself crazy to pick up another one of his novels. but this sounded SO interesting, i just couldnt stay away. and guess what? ive never been happier!

this is very ‘black mirror’-esque, which i love! but its not as sci-fi heavy as you would think. this focuses on the people, their relationships, and how they interact with each other in

An immensely seductive story, clever and unpredictable, modern and just the sort of book to get completely lost in.

" A decade after scientists discover everyone has a gene they share with just one other person Millions have taken the test, desperate to find true love. Now five more people meet their match but even soul mates have secrets and some are more shocking and deadlier than others"

I just recently had my DNA test completed with Ancestry for family research and when I picked this book up
This was a book that stayed glued to my hands, I really was so enthralled with not only the superb writing but the plot.
What an original high quality top marks concept of a wonderfully woven story.

It's unlike any story that I've read before, so, this is so going to be remembered by me in the future as it stands out because of it.

Falling in love.
Seems straight forward.
Attraction, like, emotions, appeal.

Not in this book!

So many internet dating sites out there, each promising to match you to other individuals who, like you, are looking to find their one true love. Disappointments abound, bad matches are made. Ready to give up? What if a mere mouth swab could do the trick for you? Match you with your other half, as it were. It's DNA, should be foolproof. Takes the stress and the guesswork out of the whole dating scene, and it has taken the world by storm.

Another Netflix series...YES! Very few science fiction books appeal to me, but John Marrs has the perfect recipe for mixing sci-fi and thriller!

The concept of using DNA to match you to “The One” sounded so enticing. WOW...what a fantastic way to speed up the process of finding your soulmate. Skip all those disastrous and boring dates. If you’

This story is about five persons who took Match Your DNA test to find their soulmates. I liked that idea but just for the story because I don’t need my DNA tell me who’s my husband! This story is about when they found out about their Matches, how they’re dealing with them. The first half was a little slow but the second half was better because of consequences that show themselves. I really don’t like all the characters, I liked just Nick. The story wasn’t that mysterious I expected. And

Oh this was amazing. I discovered John Marrs from a friend who recommended me “The Passengers”, which was a very good book. I’m glad I decided to give this one a try. The plot twists had me on the edge of my seat. I cannot wait till the tv show is on Netflix.

PS. I highly recommend “The One” and “The Passengers” by this author.

HOLY WOW! The One deserves nothing less than 5 stars....easily!

What if you could find your true soulmate? The One follows five people who are on a quest to meet their scientific match. Their match can be any race, sex, age, gender, married or divorced. What could possibly go wrong? A lot.

If you’re looking for a book with a fresh, unique storyline with so many twists and turns that it’ll make your head spin, look no further. This is some seriously addictive reading, my friends. Short chapters

The One is a story about a DNA matching service that allows people to find their one, true match. This story follows the lives of 5 different people who all recently received notification of their match. Each character faces challenging situations and must deal with their own secrets.

It’s an interesting story and while some of the characters’ storylines were more intriguing than others, I felt curious about each of them and eager to see how their situations would pan out. There were more twists

I loved it! What a unique idea! There were multiple POVs but it was easy to follow and each was as engaging as the other.

Suspend disbelief and play along, you won't be disappointed.

This book is EPIC. After loving The Passengers, I wanted to check out more books from this author and everyone kept recommending this book to me, and wow I'm so glad I read this. Like The Passengers, this book also feels very Black Mirror to me. The concept for this book is one of my favorites ever: it takes place in a world where you can take a DNA test and find "the one" you are supposed to be with. This company has discovered something in our DNA that matches us with one other person

If you are a fan of Black Mirror this book is for you!

Thanks to modern science the gene that is present with those love at first sight encounters is isolated and used so you can now find your one and only true love, that ever so elusive soulmate. What's the catch? Well that one and only compatibility can literally be anywhere and anyone they can be decades older then you, or live across the world, or have a mental/physical handicap or be the completely opposite gender you find

Absolutely superb! How the hell did you even come up with this Mr Marrs? And the fact that it was on my NetGalley wishlist, and you granted me my wish! You're my FairyGodfather!

What we have here is five different stories combining into one delicious chomp-a-thon. Five characters each experiencing the roller coaster ride of their life because they've been matched with The One. That person who is supposed to be made for them. Hearts and flowers

Ok I've finally recovered from this book, so thought I would write a short spoiler free review!

Imagine if you could take a DNA test to find your one true love! In The One scientists had previously discovered a gene which you only share with one other person, your DNA match. Millions of people took the test and found their match, and now ten years later, we follow five people as they find their match. And boy what a

Weird and compelling, but filled with stock characters who speak in conversations that resemble the old soap operas of yesteryear, The One is a strange book. When I was trying to categorize it, I came up with horror which is what it most strongly represents, not only because of the character who is a serial killer, but because I would not enjoy this future world scenario in which for a small fee you can be matched to your love interest through some sort of DNA code. The possibilities for chaos ...more

John Marrs is a modern day Scheherazade!

Every chapter is a cliffhanger and with toothpicks holding my eyes open, he beckoned me to turn another page and calculate my sleep to curiosity ratio. And with chapters only a few pages long, that’s a lot of calculating.

Simple premise, what if you could be perfectly matched to your soul mate with a DNA test? Your one and only? The more complicated premise, however, is whether that kind of pre-destination is more powerful than love or the laws of

This premise was so cool. You swab your mouth for your DNA, send it in, then you get back the result of your soul-mate. They learned that it is a gene, and we all have a perfect match. Easy-peasy, right?

Sure, sure. That really clears things up.

Because, soul-mate gene or not, things can get a bit messy in life, and that happens in this book. A lot.

Our story follows five different people on their journey. One's a serial killer, so that's fun. Guess who he gets matched with? Also, one is a dude

Very interesting premise, but the individual stories that were told weren't nearly as captivating. What if suddenly there was a DNA test that could match you with your soul mate, what would be the impacts? Would divorce become obsolete? Would single people have hope that "the one" is just a DNA test away? But what about married couples who aren't each other's match? What if your match wasn't anything like you expect? There are so many interesting ways to go with this scenario but sadly
I freaking loved this book so much!! I thought it was super original, suspenseful, and quite the page turner!

This book is like a dating app... except that you are matched with literally the perfect person through a DNA swab. This is told in alternating chapters from 5 different people who have just received their matches. Of course there are some downsides to this type of matchmaking, and it's both thrilling and full of drama. All the characters come with some secrets... and I found each of
