Bought this as a gift for a friend but decided to read it first... Shh.

Never seen Star Wars and not interested in it, but this is a very, very pretty book. I don't think it had an awful lot of information but the illustrations and the way the pages are set out are enough to make me feel vaguely intrigued.

Probably not the best book for learning a lot about all those... Wars in the stars (?) but I think any Star Trek, I mean, Star Wars fan can enjoy it. I hope he will, anyway. It's a good, decent size anyway.

Not high on content, but undeniably pretty to look at. Inessential, but pleasing.

Very well drawn and includes almost everything in the canon universe including Rebels, but is also a victim of its time as more content will be released allowing them to just make another one in a year or 2

Very high quality and beautifully illustrated.

This book is great for any fan of the Star Wars universe, especially those looking to expand their geeky knowledge of planets, characters and events within this vast, galactic world.

The only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars for me is the book feels a bit thin on information overall and even though it has a fair amount, I think even more in-depth lore and maybe even some cross section illustrations of vehicles/buildings etc would have gone a long way.

Overall though, a brilliant sci-fi reference/art book.

My favorite thing about this book is the fact that it combines canon from all mediums...we have mentions of Dr. Aphra, Rae Sloane, Cham Syndulla, and more. The art is fun and pretty to look at and it's an easy and fun read.

Summer 2019;

Another gorgeous piece picked up from First Book. I am utterly enamored with this piece. I thought at first it would "just be another map book," but I had to amend my assumptions from the second I opened the front cover. It starts, of course, with the galaxy at large, but instead of going straight into the planets, the book makes a fantastic detour.

First, there's an entire (new) Star Wars timeline, starting in 32 BBY and going all the way through to 4 ABY. Every single section is summarized succinctly, and each one has its different piece of art next to it. After four pages of that, you turn over to the Historical Figures pages, where you're introduced, with illustrated head bust shots, to 50 of the most essential characters in the franchize with small summaries under them as well.

From there we move into our Atlas proper, with each section starting with the Star Systems (as their own illustrated two-page spread) and then planets within them (each world getting it's individual two pages, as well). There are four star system layout pages and twenty-five planet/location layouts. On each of the location pages are small scenes from all across the canon that took places in these locations, with summaries and minute depictions of the characters or most important actions/events that happened there.

It's truly stunning and riveting, and you'll spend forever looking at every single page. My personal favorites had to have been not expecting Mortis to be in it, but it's so gorgeous, and the Trinity is laid out in the artwork of land even. You will find pieces for every single one of your favorite characters sprinkled throughout these pages with such care and artistry.

The last two-page spread is, also, "a beastiary" with the animals from the two-page world spreads, naming them, as well. The very last page and back cover, also, has a before and after of The DeathStar. This is an absolute must buy for the Star Wars buff in your life, and I have absolutely no regrets about scoring myself a copy.

Maybe it's just me, but when I see something called Maps and Atlas, I expect to see detailed art that shows the relative locations of places in relationship to each other. Maybe, if it's story-based, I'll see paths that denote the route of characters moving through the world. This book doesn't do either of those things - there are a few locations named on the maps, and some dotted lines that occasionally have notations on them. There are also details from the movies (and Clone Wars and Rebels, and some of the books, which is nice), but there's no way to read them in any sort of chronological order - there just isn't any indication of how they connect to each other (aside from a year, sometimes, which doesn't mean much when 12 things happened in a 2-day period, and their date is all 22 BBY). So the information is barely useful.
The art of the maps is unique at least, with some of its detail work impressive. If you're looking for a pretty coffee-table book with Star Wars references, this might work. Just don't expect it to be particularly informative.

The book is is really nicely illustrated and has an interesting concept but it doesn't feel Star Wars-y. The design looks vintage, on yellowing paper, a mixture of old European ribbon banners, tribal-looking patterns framing the "maps", with occasional ink sketches, and while Star Wars Universe is lived in, rusty, and distressed, it has its iconic sci-fi look which this book just didn't capture at all.

It is also disappointingly short, which maybe isn't a fair criticism since it clearly states it has 80 pages (although actual content starts on page 9 and ends on page 77 making it even shorter), especially since most "maps" are double spread.

The maps themselves are more of a stylized illustrated sections of planets, somewhat childlike in their nature, than any real attempt to make a map of the area the film takes place. This certainly looks better, but if you wanted an "accurate" representation this is not the book you're looking for.

If you are a fan of Star Wars, especially of the new interconnected canon, this book is for you. Including a timeline, a who's who of important figures in the Star Wars universe, information on the more important planets in the Star Wars galaxies, and then more detailed maps of the areas of importance on each of these planets, this books has a little bit of everything to help you map out the where/when/who of the new canon. Very informative and artistically detailed, this is an excellent addition to any Star Wars fan's library. I'm hoping that as future movies, books, and cartoons are released, they will release updated editions of this book to include the new locales. A Star Wars geek's dream!

My Review: I randomly came across this book online and figured it would be a fun addition to the collection. It is way more than I expected! It has a timeline and list of characters that incorporated characters from the movies and Rebels Cartoon series. It has a map of the galaxy and then goes into detail on the various planets with key points in the saga noted. It is so detailed and I love the art style. It has been great to help Munchkin (and honestly even Hubby) get a grasp on the bigger picture. This is definitely a fun one to add to a collection for new and older fans.

This truly might have been one of the nerdiest/geekiest things I have ever read. Well, read might be a stretch as there are only a few pages of reading and then page after page of maps from the Star Wars universe. Each map has a little tidbit of information and then little inscriptions all over the illustrations. Much of the information presented I think comes only from the movies and the television series Rebels. I could be mistaken about that, but that is the sense I got. Star Wars fans should add this to their collection. It's worthwhile and fun to peruse.

Nice art, but the content is less engaging - erratic snippets of data dumps from (I suppose) various Star Wars cartoons. It might be more interesting if I'd seen more than the films and knew what the hell is being talked about. My little kids borrowed it from the library and they're asking lots and LOTS of questions. Sadly, I know as little as they do, so it's been a little frustrating for everyone.

My son loves this book and had a complete meltdown when I attempted to return it to the library today. He loves looking at all the drawings of the different characters on the different planets. My biggest complaint the tiny text. He always wants me to read bits to him but tiresome with that tiny text.

Krásně zpracované, spousta detailů, roztodivných zvířat i vesmírných ras.

This is a nice coffee table book that brings together many elements from books, TV, movies and more into a cohesive “dip in, dip out” glance over book for fans. There’s nothing post-Force Awakens in this version but it’s nice to see everything up until then brought together. Great for reading together with the kiddos.

This is a great book for any Star Wars fan. It is a good way to learn about the planets of Star Wars Galaxy and where in the Universe they are. It is also a good tool to learn about Maps and the Star System.

“Maps” may be a misnomer unless one says it is a map of events rather than actual planetary maps. Regardless it is a delightful kids book with wonderful illustrations. Perfect for a young person just opening their heart and soul to a Galaxy far, far away.

Liked it! The pictures and detail are great, even if it's actually geared towards younger readers... the downside is, of course, it's outdated now, so to speak, since it actually came out for Rogue One. Lots of stuff since then happened.

This is a truly awesome reference book that illustrates several planets across the galaxy, and ties in material from not just the movies, but the shows and print media as well. It is a bit dated now, but is still a very cool book.

Not really an attempt at accurate maps. Does have a timeline of events on each planet from movies and TV shows.
