Royally Relinquished: A Modern Day Fairy Tale

Rate this book
The only thing royal about Caitriona is the blue of her beat-up sedan. As a receptionist at a medical spa, her life is far from glamorous, but she gets by, happily.

His highness, Prince Henrik Stuart, is bound by duty and controlled by the crown. He fears a future chained to a woman of good breeding.

While known as the reckless and wild, prince, the thought of settling down isn't what troubles him. If he could find a woman who cared nothing of his title, but rather cared for the man that he is, he would give her the world.

A weekend trip of fun in Sin City leads to a chance meeting. Both Caitriona and Henrik feel a spark between them, unlike any they've experienced before. To each, the other is too good to be true.

When she said 'yes' to the handsome, green-eyed stranger, Caitriona didn't know that she was stepping into her very own fairy tale.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas...except when it's legally binding.

Royally Relinquished: A Modern Day Fairy Tale by Hayley Faiman

That was the book I just finished like five minutes ago – and I have been contemplating now for more than 24 hours - that was about when I hit the 25% mark – how I should write a review on this book or even give it a rating at all. I know that books are like babies to their authors and since I am writing a little myself I know how it feels to come up face to face with a person that has a problem with something I wrote.

So I have the highest respect for someone that places his writing out to the world to read – but reading for review also means that I cannot close my eyes and pretend that everything was ok for me. Given the fact that I stay away (if possible) from spoilers in my reviews I have a little difficulty in describing my issues with this book.

It was my first by this author therefore I do not know if this book is written in her usual style or if it is different but it what I know is that this book was not for me. While I could not put it down (which is strange given the fact that it was not for me in the end), I came up with far to many loose ends or potholes as you may also call them. Events and facts that made no sense to me, that were simply wrong or felt wrong and in the end to top it off a male leading character that up until the last pages could not meet a standard of a fairytale prince.

I think I am capable of distinguishing facts and fiction, but when a fictional story uses a contemporary surrounding, I expect that daily events are kept real. If in a paranormal novel a vampire would drive a human car I would expect that car to have four wheels. So one of my big issue in this plot is hidden in this link here – my link text . (I did not check because of the book but because I was personally interested in it some time ago so when I came across it in the book it bugged me – and I think its no spoiler to mention it here as it is kind of mentioned in the book blurb)

Basically in this story it seems that there were a lot of ideas on the mind of the author that she tried to install into one plot no matter if they would work out or not or were even close to being believable, it was just TOO MUCH.

The plot idea it self was sweet and probably would have worked out just fine. But instead of simply staying in the sweet way that a fairytale should work, it feels that the author not only tried to make it modern by exchanging the carriages and horses with cars and planes but also she tried to give it more of an edge which did not work out at all…

If I would neglect my no spoiler rule I would not even know where to start with my problems. But still until the epilogue I was still positive that it would somehow work out – because I was still reading right ?

So it meant that there was something in that story that kept me glued on my kindle. But it turns out that in the end I must have been a glutton for punishment. I mean no disrespect to the work of this author but this fairytale dream turned out to be a royal nightmare for me and its crown was the epilogue that added more drama when an epilogue should be the closure to something and it installed the leading character as a man that is not able to change his ways.

In the end now – I had to check what my own rating system said and according to what I once fixed I can not rate this book with more than two stars because I finished it but it was far from a solid read to me. In this special case I really truly feel sorry about it because there was something there within the lines

I'm honestly not sure what to say about this book. I'm a huge sucker for royal romances, but this one wasn't my favorite....I had some issues.

So, the book starts out with the couple meeting in Vegas, which leads to partying, getting drunk and them getting married. In all honesty, I don't have a problem with this. But what I do take issue with is anyone thinking that a Vegas wedding “doesn’t count” or “isn’t real” or something along those lines. It’s not like the characters were teenagers, or 18 or something…they were adults, 20s and 30s. They were (for the most part) mature adults. So I didn’t understand the thought of “It wasn’t real.”…but that’s just me. And just because I saw this someplace else, and it illustrates my point: Wedding Legal Requirements

My next issue was Henrick aka Henny himself. In the beginning, I loved him. I didn’t even have a problem with how he and Caitriona parted the next morning after their date and hookup. But what I took issue with was how wishy-washy he was. He finds out he’s married and decides to go along with the “annul it quickly and quietly”…ok, I get it. He’s a prince, they don’t want a scandal. Fine. But he decides he wants her. Let me say it again…HE DECIDES HE WANTS TO KEEP HER. So, ok, great! You’ll make a go of it! But at the first sign of his family’s disapproval, he’s ready to divorce her and put her up as his mistress while he marries he “appropriate” woman. Uh…..no. I’m sorry, but where was the guy that talked her into moving AROUND THE WORLD, TO A DIFFERENT COUNTRY to give their marriage a chance?! He sat there like a child being scolded by his parents and never stood up for her once.

Ok, assuming I can get over that all of that with Henrick…he gets set up on a date, at a charity event (which he DIDN’T take his wife to) and ends up in the tabloids making a fool of HIS WIFE. Ok, so I have a few issues with this part. For a royal family that’s hell bent on avoiding scandal, why in the world would THE KING set up his MARRIED grandson prince with a woman (royal or not) just so that it ends up in the tabloids, causing an even bigger scandal than the one that’s currently going on!? Not only that, Henrick, why in the hell would you play nice and act like that woman’s date all night when YOUR WIFE is at home, thinking you’re working?! Honestly, I didn’t blame Caitriona for wanting to leave him then. But he always comes back apologizing and she stays.

I realize that I’m being pretty free with the info here, and I’m sorry for that. So in the interests of not spoiling the whole book, I’ll just say this for my next issue….Caitriona imparts some news on Henrick, and he doesn’t react well…and this is after him making numerous pleas for them to stay together and honestly, I hated his reaction. It was selfish and just plain bad.

My last issue that I want to address is a lost plot point or maybe it was forgotten or maybe it was just a missed opportunity? Either way, Caitriona’s mother was mentioned a few times, begging for money early in the book and after Caitriona was connected to Henrick, and the marriage came out, her mom was referenced as to having contacted Caitriona’s best friend. Caitriona said she was going to talk to Henrick about her mom, but it never happened. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, for her mom to cause problems and…it never happened. On one hand, it was nice that there wasn’t more drama because Henrick was good at creating his own, but on the other hand, it was like a missed opportunity or forgotten thread.

Henrick and Caitriona definitely had chemistry. It was hot. And while I love hot books, and a good steamy scene, this book had a lot in it. I mean, so many steamy scenes that I started skimming them. It just became too much repetition. Every time Henrick and Caitriona were together, they ended up in bed.

My favorite characters ended up being the secondary characters. I loved Caitriona’s best friends and her bodyguard Hugh. Hugh was probably my favorite character and he actually got me all choked up during the scenes where Caitriona was visiting the sick kids in the hospital.

Oh, I also have to touch on Henrick’s brother and his fiancée. I loved them. But I also got the impression that there’s more going on with them than meets the eye. I kind of hope that they get a book so we can see their story.

A huge shift for me from this author but definitely a positive shift. Faiman nailed all the important areas! Alpha hero. Check. Heroine who is strong but knows her place. Check. Phenomenal storyline. Check. Check. Check.

RR is a very pleasant surprise and I am ecstatic to recommend to anyone!

reading romances

Not what I was looking for.

Royally Relinquished was my first book by this author. I'm a big fan of royal romances but I had some issues with this book: the main one was that Henrik didn’t behave as a fairytale prince nor as a decent hero. I couldn’t like him, I tried, but couldn’t. I thought Caitriona deserved better, so I wasn't cheering for them.

There was a lot of sex in it, and the scenes were repetitive. Looked like they could only have a proper conversation while having sex, this bothered me a lot. Clearly, there’s a problem going on when your favorite characters were not the main couple, but the secondary characters. I liked Caitriona’s best friends and Hugh, the bodyguard.

I wanted to see more fairy tale-like elements, aside from the love at first side factor. Unfortunately, this novel wasn't for me. I didn't finish it.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I'll Sitck With the MC

While I am a big fan of Hayley Faiman's Motorcycle Club Series, Royally Reluiquished: A Modern Day Fairy Tale didn't do much for me, although it was nice to read something different by this author.

Instantly, I wasn't a huge fan of either character and felt they totally deserved each other. She was a bit of a sad sack, with her bad upbringing and he was an over grown man-child. Pouting because he's a prince and has to marry an ice queen, which he reminds everybody of way too many times.

So these two meet in Vegas, get smashed out of thier minds and the next thing they know, they are bound together forever. She lives in Oregon and him in England. Something that probably should have come up in conversation earlier in the evening. After skipping out on Caitronia (I found myself stumbling over this name constantly) the next morning, Henrick, our prince, soon finds out he's made quite the blunder and now has to decide what to do about it.

Sex and not much more ensues. It seems no matter what this couple is up against, the sex makes it all better. It was too much. I needed these guys to have more of a relationship rather than him dragging her home and telling her what is expected of her.

That said, I did like the way Cait changed the minds of the people around her and finally started standing on her own two feet. The book is well written from dual points of view, however didn't quite hit the mark for me.

One night stand with a hot Brit in Las Vegas, what's the worst that could happen?
When Caitriona meets Henrik, a mysterious, hot Brit, and set out for a wild night of drinking and partying, ending up at the altar of the little wedding chapel wasn't something they planned, but there was an undeniable pull toward each other. In order to turn one night of drunken debauchery into more, they both will have to make some life-altering sacrifices. Somewhere along the way they both discovered who they were and what they wanted from life.

This modern day twist on a classic fairy tale was such a fun read. It was lighthearted and sexy with laugh out loud moments. There were also touching moments that brought me to tears more than a few times.

I am such a huge fan of Hayley Faiman and I also love modern day fairy tales , the characters were really likable main and secondary hope to see more of those characters , felt every emotion through out the story , could not wait to see how Royally relinquished would end . Caitriona and Henrik made the perfect couple they are from different countries but had a strong connection / attraction at first glance , loved the banter that they had , the sex scenes were super hot, and they were what the other was looking for . Caitriona was a amazing heroine liked everything about her she was kindhearted , smart , funny , beautiful not only on the outside but inside too , her confidants grows as the story progresses loved a certain scene I totally said ''YOU GO GIRL '' , had awesome friends who were her real family and protective of one another . Henrik had his sexy accent had me all hot and bothered there were times when I wanted to shake him and be like ''DUDE REALLY '' and there were times I wanted to jump him and his dirty mouth had me in need of a cold shower . I can't wait to read more by this author

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.

So where do I start. I think it's the first time I've ever like a hero for only the first chapter then after I disliked him. The heroine was hit or miss and at times I really liked her and times I felt sorry for her. And most of the time I wanted to shake her.

Henrik and Caitriona met in Vegas and she had no either who he was. At times it felt like Riona was always being bullied by other women because of her curves. Henrik and Riona fell in love instantly but then when she found out who he really was I started disliking him.

Henrik didn't seem to have a backbone and for a 31 year old he was manipulated and controlled by his father and grandfather. I hated that he wasn't man enough for majority of the situations. Even in their HEA he was still an a$$ but whatever.

For the most part I enjoyed Henrik's brother and of course Riona two best friends.

This was my First try with this Author and I must say i was pleasantly Pleased with her Writing and this story line.

Yes it was Cheesy but a Major BUT is that this is the kind of books or stories we read as we were growing up. Only difference is that this book is way Naughtier and Definitely the kind of books our mum's kept away from us....

This book is about what a drunk night can cause and what happens when Fate and Destiny are in play. Henrik and Caitriona meet by chance. Their love story is the reason i love Fairytales.

Yes there are times you wanna smack Jenny and you may also Roll your Eyes at how over the top they are. I also promise that for some ( Definitely inlove With Dirty Fairytales) reason you will stay Glued to this book.

Looking forward to read more by this Author and will Definitely recommend this book for Dirty Smutty Romantic readers like me.

Enjoy.....

Actual rating: 3.5 stars.

I have mixed feelings about this book. This is the story of how Prince Henrik met the commoner Caitriona.

I am a sucker for Cinderella stories so I enjoyed the commoner meets royal aspect of this book. I also love the heroine on this book.

My problem with this book is that there's a lot of sexy times on this book, a bit more and it will overwhelm the story itself. I skimmed those parts because it felt repetitive to me.

The conflict being the Prince himself is also not my favorite. He messed up a lot of times and I always imagine punching him in his royal nose, haha. Also some characters were introduced and was just left hanging in mid air with no plan of ever landing again on the story.

All in all, it was an okay read. Though, a bit of trimming might have earned more stars from me.

I love a Royal romance!! A handsome Prince and American commoner. A royal fairytale!!!
Well sort of...
They had a crazy whirlwind one night stand and separated thinking they would never see each other again. Oh but that night changed everything and they didn't even know it. I just read along, enjoying the story waiting for sh#t to hit the fan. I was loving it!
I loved our Prince Henrick he was handsome, he was charming, he spoke all the sweet words his lady wanted to hear and then he turned around and proved he was still a dumb#ss man. God I wanted to kick his royal arse!
Caitriona was a sweet naive thing that I just wanted to hug. She wanted the fairytale but he was making it hard for her to believe in it.
I will tell you no matter what this couple had a sexual connection that neither could deny. Seriously they could not keep their hands off each other when together. Hotter than Hot!! They had a surprise love that came when neither expected. It came with unbelievable obstacles and hurdles!! Throw in a few touching moments that brought tears and it was a story I couldn't put down.

I am a sucker for modern day fairytales. I was instantly drawn into this one and couldn't put it down. I loved how I felt so many emotions through this. I laughed, I swooned and I wanted to scream at Henrick a few times. The best part for me was that Caitriona was such a strong female. I loved that about her. I would definitely recommend this book!

Susan reviewed on behalf of Mytimeoutbookblog

I give Royally Relinquished 5 stars for setting my emotions on sizzle. Sometimes what happens in Vegas doesn't stay there, and this made me very happy. I was thrilled to follow these two through all the trials and tribulations they encountered because it just made my heart swell for them even more. I was enamoured with my prince and princess.

Hailey Faiman is a new author to me, but I'm sure it won't be the last book I read of hers. Her writing style is great, her story was heartwarming, and her characters were amazing.

Caitriona and Henrik meet in Sin City, when a weekend trip leads to one night of fun. Little did she know that her fairytale was about to begin. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas is not always true. When it's legally binding, it follows you. What have they done?

Caitriona Geneva Grace does not live in luxury, she's a receptionist at a medical spa, and she barely gets by. She's just happy to have left behind the life from her small town. She and her best friend take a girls weekend away in Sin City, and her life is forever altered. She met her prince, but she didn't know he was really a prince. What has she gotten herself into?

Henrik George William Richard Stuart, his highness, is bound by duty and controlled by the crown. He is to wed a woman of good breeding, irregardless of love. He is the fun loving prince, and the thought of settling down doesn't bother him, but he doesn't care for the one that was chosen for him. Can he follow through with this plan?

Royally Relinquished is a "Royal" romance novel which depicts the royal family and what it is like to be part of it. It is also a story of love and overcoming many obstacles to get what you want...love.

I loved this book and didn't want it to end.

Royally Relinquished is one of the most romantic modern day fairy tales I have ever read. I am blown away by the fantasy and happily ever after this book brought. I could not put this book down, I snuck chapters in and almost burned dinner one night. The romance kept a tear in my eye through most of the book.

Caitriona Geneva Grace is most of us. She’s struggling to survive but is doing her absolute best. She doesn’t have the fanciest place, she pays her bills and doesn’t overspend and her family is lacking to say the least. But she has the best of friends in James and Madison. They’ve grown up together since their childhood and they are their own family.

Prince Henrik Stuart has a legacy to fulfill. He’s a wild one but knows what it takes to keep his title and keep peace in the family. He’s destined to become a Duke but he must marry his Duchess first. He knows it’s coming and even knows who the chosen one is. Marriage to be made of status not love. Deciding he needs a trip to Vegas to get the bachelor out of his system he doesn’t plan on the curvy, wild haired woman he sees at the pool. He doesn’t know what it is between them but he has no intention of ever letting her go.

Royally Relinquished shows the fight it takes to build and keep a relationship as a priority. Henrik frustrated me at times and the end felt a little rushed but over all this book gave me all kinds of feels. I absolutely love the writing of Hayley Faiman and her supporting characters always complete the story. I hope this isn’t the end of this fairy tale as I would love to read more about the friends and family of this couple.

*I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.*

I have been a huge fan of Hayley Faiman for quite sometime; but was unsure when I heard she was writing a modern day fairy tale mostly because I'm a huge fan of her MC Series and Bratva Series and I love how she writes these beautifully flawed characters, gritty no-nonsense in your face MC/Mob drama (so if you haven't read them GO READ THEM); Anyways, I digress a fairy tale romance definitely had me second guessing. BUT What I can say is that I was not disappointed and this book was a refreshing change of pace for me.
What I love about this author is that her characters always have layers & these two Caitriona and Henrik were no exception. This is not just a book where the hero wisks the heroine away they fall in love and live happily ever after but instead you see two very different people one who's never been loved and the other who has this loyal to a fault thing to his family and his responsibilities. We see them fall in insta-lust then we see them fall in love; and at the same time we get to see these two characters become who they are truly meant to be and do what they are truly meant to do outside of just their relationship with each other. Two very different people make mistakes, hurt each other and forgive each other and learn from each other. I am a huge fan of REAL and that's exactly what you get from the fabulous Hayley Faiman.

If your looking for something different and refreshing then this book is definitely for you! Happy Reading!

OK 4 for this one from me. Absolutely great could not put down. I read the entire thing in less than one day! Absolutely love the settings, characters, and story-line.
There are a few VERY minor things that kinda bugged me but nothing big. For example names.... "Henny"? For the main male character? Didnt do it for me. I felt like I was kind of left hanging a little with the part about Cait's mom also. There was ALOT of happenings in this story, but that for me is kind of a big back story and I felt it was left unfinished. There should have been more or less. (Nope not elaborating, youll have to read) And finally for a "Stand alone" I felt the ending needed a little more. It could have been expanded on a little bit.
Now with the above being said I LOVE the characters. I really enjoyed reading about these 2 unlikely soulmates. It was rather refreshing to NOT have the first half of a story be all about some womanizing bad boy who miraculously becomes a wonderful husband. Henrick is no saint, but seems to have a wonderfully beautiful heart, and a great sense of family and responsibility.
Cait, Riona or her official name Caitriona (yeah another name) is a soft spoken quiet woman with one hell of a life behind her. Will one crazy night in Vegas stay in Vegas? If not will it change them for the better or worse?

I loved Royally Relinquished! A fun read about a prince that meets his unconventional Princess. You will love this story about Prince Henrik and Caitriona. You can feel the raw chemistry dripping off these wonderful characters. You will enjoy their Fairy Tale romance from the Las Vegas Strip where it all begins to the posh lifestyles of the Royals in London. Their relationship will endure many obstacles but will leave you believing in fairy tales.
I enjoyed the characters in this book from Caitriona's best friend Madison and her husband James. They are more than friends they are family. Henrik's brother Philip and soon to be wife Bee are also a lovely couple and are very supportive to Henrik and Caitriona. I also enjoyed Hugh, Henrik's security guard and best friend.
My favorite part of this story is when Henrik and Caitriona first meet in Las Vegas. I would also like to add that I actually cried at some point in this story, very touching.

I give Royally Relinquished 5 stars for the smoking hot chemistry between Prince Henrik and Caitriona.
I would recommend this book to adults.

I got an early copy of this book in exchange for a review so I fell a bit bad not giving it more but although the idea is good I didn't like the hero, Prince Henrik Stuart, much at all.
He is off to have a final fling before he gets engaged to an 'ice' princess, who he hasn't met but is full-filling his political and royal obligation.
He meets Caitriona Geneva Grace, who does not have much in life except for her two loyal friends.
I am a huge fan of 'we got drunk and got married in Vegas' stories and that's what happens here.

Caitriona Geneva Grace is very lovable and gets pulled into the snobbery and media frenzy of Henrik's life. He hurts her multiple times but if you like stories where the hero has no idea how relationships work, how to treat a woman and makes multiple mistakes then this is the boo for you. But that did not make him very like-able for me.
There is also a lot of sex in it.
Not cheating, standalone and a HEA.

This one was a bit of a struggle for me. While I enjoyed the overall concept and the characters at the beginning, the remaining kind of fell apart for me. Cait had the potential for so much more. I wanted to see her be stronger, to take up for herself and not just constantly fall apart for lack of self-esteem. And Henrick, he needed a backbone. I just needed more from them. It felt a bit rushed and while I enjoy sex in a story, it seemed like that was the main focus and it took more away from me than enhancing the story like it should. I enjoyed the way Haley wrote the story, just didn't connect with it like I wanted.

I gave this book 5 stars because I LOVE the way Hayley writes and I Loved this story!!! I have to say, though, Henrick was a downright asshole!! He let his family and his title dictate how he handled things until it was almost too late! Caitriona was bloody brilliant!!! It’s so easy to possibly compare this to the real royals and how things must be for them. Henrick was never gonna get the throne but the title was important to him for his heirs. She was LOVED by the people and he should have had more faith in her and told his father and grandfather to shove it!!! This book was just a fairytale and it was such a light easy read!!!

I really struggled with what to rate this book. To be honest I almost didn't finish it. Cait and Henrick rushed in to everything, and they continuously messed things up. I wish Cait were confident enough to stand up for herself. I wish Henrick had enough backbone to stand up to his family about living his life. His grandfather is the king! He's the spare; surely he can have some leeway. These are modern times. When there wasn't sex in every chapter, I was really enjoying the storyline. There was a good story of a prince marrying an American and the two finding love.

A true Cinderella story.

Royally Relinquished was a fantastic Cinderella story. I’m a sucker for Vegas weddings but even more so when hot princes are involved. Kait and Henrick’s Love story was over the top and a total fairytale. I loved the story.

I adored Kait. I though she was spunky and overall a strong heroine. I tried to like Henrick but I found myself wanting to throat punch him. He’s a hot prince and all but I feel like Kait deserved better. The story was amazing but could have been even better if Henrick wasn’t such a jerk!

Fairytale's and Love...What Could be Better!

This is a fairytale rags to riches love story with a twist. This story has heart, makes you laugh and cry. This is a beautifully written story of finding your true self, discovering what is important to your life and making sacrifices for love. I love Caitrina's fearless attitude and caring nature. Henrik's realized devotion. Their romance is full of hot steam and reinforces that the sea to love is not always smooth sailing but as long as there is true love you will have your forever after! I am enthralled by this modern day fairytale. I recommend reading this book!

Not your typical rags to riches story! I have enjoyed Hayley's books, she has a way of writing very sexy into down-to-earth stories and this one was no different. I like how her stories are not all the same, she puts thought into her books, delivering something new each time. I was ready for a Modern Day Fairy tale, I enjoyed the spin that Hayley put on this one ~ it was unexpected, yet perfect!

Everything about this book reminds me of a fairytale story. It was a light and sexy read with fun moments. When Henrick a prince marries Caitriona a commoner, things goes awry from there. It was an enjoyable story. This was my first book by Hayley Faiman and I look forward to reading more of her books.

An ARC was received for an honest opinion.
