Following a brutal attack that left him nearly dead, Becket “Cat” Rowland is a mess inside and out. To cope with the trauma and with his view of himself that he’s nothing but an empty shell, he’s taken three vows: simplicity, chastity, and silence. His once colorful, trendy, and often feminine wardrobe has been replaced with jeans and t-shirts, and he’s sworn off men. He l ...more

Walking by Faith is the prequel to Passing on Faith but published after Passing on Faith, although this isn't really a sequential series, and the books do NOT need to be read in any particular order. I did read Passing on Faith first, but I plan to read them the other way around someday, when I've forgotten the stories (I'm not entirely convinced I will ever forget them).

Where Passing on Faith tells Micah's story (in which Cat Rowland is a prominent feature), Walking by Faith is about Cat, and A

Talk about putting yourself through the wringer while reading a story...

Heavy on angst, pain, loss and drama, Walking By Faith was a highly emotional tale that tells Cat's story from his point of view. It puts us in his shoes as he goes from his self-assured, exuberant self to a shell of who he once was-calling his identity and self into question following a horrific physical attack that is made unimaginably worse due to Cat's existing medical conditions. The author tells Cat's story so well tha
This is a difficult book to read, and even more difficult to review. It's not a romance, but a prequel to Passing On Faith, that explains Cat's backstory. It can be read as a standalone, as I haven't read Passing On Faith.

With great spiritual depth, A.M. Leibowitz tells the story of a young, happy, carefree Cat, whose exuberant self withers and dies after a horrific homophobic attack that sends him to the hospital, with injuries made worse by his medical condition. It tells us of friends who lea

A novel with great emotional impact and spiritual depth, "Walking by Faith" is a prequel to Leibowitz's "Passing on Faith", which also explored gay and queer men's conflicted engagement with Christianity. The books can be read in either sequence, but I'm glad I read "Passing" first, because it was easier to endure Cat's sufferings in "Walking" when I knew that he would grow up to embrace his uniqueness and find a good partner.

Leibowitz's books cross over into the M/M romance genre without being

Walking by Faith (Faith #2) A.M. Leibowitz

This is the love story between Beckett (Cat) Rowland, a very religious -- Catholic -- hemophiliac gay, gender fluid man and David Simms - a nurse, HIV positive, and Hepatitis C positive man.

The book opens in 2013 when Cat is having issues with his current boyfriend, Micah. It then flashes back to 2005, on Cat's 19th birthday when he's taken by his then boyfriend, Bryce to a gay bar. This is called "That night." There, Cat is assaulted by Landon, a total
Independent reviewer for Divine Magazine, I was gifted my copy of this book.

I usually write a blurby bit, but am not here.

I gotta make three points.

1. This is, from what I can gather, a follow on book to Passing On Faith, published a year ago, today. I have not read that book. I spent much of reading this book thinking that I didn't need to have read Passing On Faith, thinking I wasn't missing anything. But then, as the book caught up to the here and now, I changed my mind. I feel I SHOULD have

2017 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: Walking by Faith (Faith #2) A.M. Leibowitz
1) Definitely not your normal HEA sweet romance. This is gay fiction, with a lot of angst, and conflict. The story deals with issues of shame, depression, HIV, death and the overall theme of the societal treatment of homosexuality. My biggest peeve in this story is that the flashbacks tended to detract from the overall story. Also, there could have been better delivery of the love story between Cat and David. What s

This book was more angsty than the first, but I loved it just as much. it was great to see early parts of Cat and Micah's lives, as well as Zayne and Pam, and LR. All the characters are wonderfully written and I adored Cat even more by the time I'd learned about his younger years. amazing story.

Even though I read Passing on Faith in preparation of reading this book, I feel it can be read as a standalone. In one way, I wish I’d read this story first, so I had a deeper understanding of Cat. Yet in another way, had I not already met Cat I don’t think I would’ve taken to him the same. Honestly, when he chose a vow of silence, his family should’ve been knighted for their endless amount of love and support, because I wanted to bitch slap him more than once.

This story flicks between past and

Four and a half stars!
I really liked seeing Cat again. We get to see more of where he comes from and how he got where he is when he meets Micah. It’s a deeper look at who he is and everything he’s endured. I loved getting to see so much more of Cat.
We get to see how Cat’s gender expression evolved and changed. How different events shaped how he perceives himself. There were times he hurt my heart with how little he thought of himself. His reaction to That Night was

Where to start? I guess with I absolutely loved every moment of this book. I loved Cat in Passing on Faith, and it was nice to see more of his story. There was a side character or two I may have wanted to slap a few times(seriously, I'm not a violent person, but I have very visceral emotions to books and fictional characters). But, I loved the relationship between Cat and his sister. Also, how his relationship with David grew. There were moments that made me laugh, some that had me nearly in tea ...more
