A great old find in the used bookstore for $3.00, and a long-overdue reference to the many mysterious pieces in my hometown.

A great reference book to have on your shelf. The author has a new(er) one out (and in color), but it's approximately 4 billion dollars. This quite dated one is also great-- and tbh, not THAT much outdoor sculpture has gone up since 1974 that you feel like you're missing too much. Sure, a few major monuments on the mall, but you don't need this book to tell you about those.

The months spent over 2010 and 2011 walking these sites, particularly finding the A. Philip Randolph statue while scouting Union Station, were though-provoking. Reflection on the value, and purposes, of public statuary should be part of tours and tour-guide training.
