OH, I really enjoyed this collection of character stories. The author uses old photos of people and develops a short fictional story about their lives. Most of them take place in the 1940's and several are from Newfoundland. Most of them are 'tough luck' stories of how badly their lives went but the author doesn't dwell on any of that..just states it and moves on. Especially liked the conniving and trickery story of How Phyliss Got Married. I'll try another of this autor's books as long as it is ...more
