You should have figured out by now how much I love Proverbs! This book paraphrases them (we look them up in the Bible, too, to compare) and then for each verse adds a poem about behavior in accordance with the proverb.

BEAUTIFUL book--gorgeous illustrations. Makes for some good discussion even with young boys.

God's Wisdom for Little Boys is an absolute treasure for grandparents and parents alike to read to their little boys. The ideas expressed in tender rhyme are all Biblical from Proverbs.

The book is beautifully designed and laid out, and the illustrations and paintings by Judy Luenebrink are fabulous. The authors, Jim and Elizabeth George, introduce little boys to character building through fun and rhyme. Example:

"Friendly"
God's little boy makes friends with others;
Those friends include his sisters and brothers.
True friends are always a gift from above;
Make it your goal to give brotherly love.

"A friend loves you all the time.
A brother is always there to help you." Proverbs 17:17

I would highly recommend this book for anyone with a little boy on their heart that they wish to make a gift of God's wisdom in a beautifully enticing way.

I was given a copy of this book to review by Harvest House Publishers and was not required to give a positive review. Original review is on my blog: http://ChatWithVera.blogspot.com

Although this book is directed towards young boys, it is still a great treasure to have around. This book is full of a variety of characteristics that God wants to see in a young boy that it trying to live for Christ. It is a great message and would be relatable to girls as well as boys, even though the main audience is not girls!

Prayer.

(We often use the prayer at the end of this book as Sam's Night-Night prayer. He likes this book, but it's a bit long for him at times)

Scripture Quotations are from The International Children's Bible, New Century Version. While I was reading, I thought a different version would have been better but it didn't really affect my enjoyment. The artwork is amazing, and so cute. I will definitely look up more picture books with art by Judy Luenebrink.

The page for Responsible used Proverbs 27:23, which I thought was oddly agriculture specific. Mayhaps, a different verse would be better. But again it was fine, and could open up discussion about the different chores boys would have had to do in times past. The only issue I take with this book is that on the page for being Thankful. The Proverbs verse is Proverbs 15:8,29 but they cut off the top line of both verses.
The LORD hates the sacrifice that the wicked offer, but he likes the prayers of honest people. (Proverbs 15:8) Is altered to "The Lord...is pleased with an honest person's prayer."
The Lord does not listen to the wicked, but he hears the prayers of those who do right. (Proverbs 15:29) is also altered to "The Lord...hears the prayers of those who do right."
It would be much better to not omit the top line of the verse for the true meaning of the verse is easily altered without it.
All in all, this is a good little book, that should be paired with deeper study, and more scripture readings.

I actually enjoyed quite a bit about this book, but I am giving it a lower rating due to this important caveat: The Scripture quotations used throughout the book are taken from the International Children's Bible and, when read side-by-side with a word-for-word translation such as the ESV, they are not always an accurate depiction. This would be an enjoyable book to use with little boys, but I would want to represent the verses shared as more of a summary than a Scriptural quotation.

Beautifully illustrated book, if a little American, and apple pie, is a decent read of lessons from the proverbs for young boys. A decent book.
