Tara Betts is the author of the REFUSE TO DISAPPEAR, BREAK THE HABIT, ARC AND HUE, and the chapbooks 7 x 7: kwansabas, and the THE GREATEST!: AN HOMAGE TO MUHAMMAD ALI. She is a Cave Canem fellow and holds an MFA from New England College and a Ph.D. from Binghamton University.
I've been meaning to read this collection for four years, and have had this copy for three. I saw Tara read from this book and I was blown away by her words. Part of the reason I hadn't read it yet was because I knew it was amazing, and once I read it that first sense of awe would be over.
But that's BS, because these poems are going to be incredible every time you read them. Her emotions about family, divorce, and love echo inside you. I highly recommend you get a copy now.
Tara Betts brilliant writing inspires me to read more of her poems. The first poem reflects on how hip hop can cause listeners to dive more into history.
