The Betrothed begins in Victorian-era England and morphs into a Western Frontier romance. It was interesting to witness the transition of the three main characters, Harry, Charlotte, and Camilla, with Charlotte making the most significant adaptation. I can recall few times a character begins as pampered gentry and ends up as a Western frontier bride. I was also pleased to see how skillfully Ms. Holt leads Charlotte from being a Christian in name only to a person with a more personal relationship ...more

Vivian Holt was a new to me author in her first book in this series and she did it again in the wonderful story.

This story has adventure, heart break, loss, and a budding romance of course. Plus throw in two worlds apart from each other and two people apart from each other as night and day. England and an ocean between America surely adds adventure going across th a Atlantic back in the later part of the 1800's, then add in a Lady from the more upper crust of society and two commoners, brother a

To avoid an engagement to the Duke of Notherington, a man she barely knows, Lady Charlotte Beaufort runs away to America with Harry and Camilla Brown. Charlotte and Harry begin having feelings for each other, but Charlotte feels Harry is not dependable enough because he's a gambler and seem to always be running from those he has either won a lot of money from or has lost a lot of money to and hasn't the funds to pay them. Hence his and his sister's departure from England to the New World.

This historical romance is not like any other that I have ever listened to. It starts out as a regency romance as Charlotte leaves England to escape an arranged marriage. She ends up in New York to find herself in a financial mess and ends up crossing the states to Montana with Camilla and Harry to the "old west". I loved the transitions of the story, each having Charlotte grow a little more into the woman she becomes. The story really picks up a lot when they start out on the wagon train, addin ...more

This is book 7 in the series . And what a book 7. It brings 2 parts of the world together . The worlds are an ocean apart but they are joined by 2 characters

Hero is Harry . Heroine is . Larry Charlotte .

Lady Charlotte was put into a situation that she didn’t want. You ask what an arranged marriage. That’s what the upper crust of English scocity did back then. She broke it off and ran. She meet 2 other commoners a man and his sister that had more in common with her . They set sail

I purchased the novel Cutter's Creek book 7: The Betrothed by Vivi Holt and this review was given freely.
Lady Charlotte leaves England with two of her childhood acquaintances to escape an arranged marriage. This novel is full of life changes for Charlotte and Harry as they grow closer to Cutter's Creek and to each other. The wonder of a ship with and engine and a steam engine train are mentioned. This is an easy flowing novella with short excerpts relaying the harsh life gambling, of a n

The Betrothed tells of friendship in an odyssey from England to Montana and an unlikely romance that blossoms in the new world where titles no longer make the man. This is a clean romance with a sprinkling of religion (but not in an obtrusive way).

The narrator of the audiobook sounds like a cowboy, though he does accents for the characters. I'm not sure how well that fits this particular story. He does a nice job of reading the book though.

This one kind of reminded me a little bit of the movie Far and Away... but without the boxing. It was a lot of fun and even better it was a clean romance. The narrator did a great job too. I would recommend this one to those who like the clean romances.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Another that I liked! There were times I wanted to skip this book and go to the next one in line! This one was a bit on the dry side! They spoke of adventure, but it just wasn't there.

Great story!!

Lady Charlotte meets a farm boy and his sister, as she runs away from home to avoid an arranged marriage. They cross the Atlantic Ocean, work in New York City, and make plans to travel to Montana in a covered wagon. Great story!!

I loved this book. I loved that it starts out in England and ends up in the West. I loved that the author combined these two types of books into one.

I loved this book as it migrated from England to the ship, to New York City, to the wagon train and finally landed in Cutter's Creek!

This book started out as a bit of confusion for me at first: I didn’t realize that this starts out as a Regency in England, then makes its way to New York with immigrants, and then crosses the frontier en route to becoming a Western. This is something that I haven’t experienced previously, the mixing of two seemingly very different subgenres of historical romance. I will say that the two genres do not overlap, but rather seamlessly morph into the next thanks to the added stop in New York which d ...more

Charlotte is in turmoil her parents promised her she could pick the man she is to marry. For her parents she is taking too long and they pick the Duke for her. Charlotte isn’t happy about this but goes along with it until one evening she talked with the Duke and found he did not see things her way. She would be unable to bend him to her ways of having a little freedom along with a few thrills of adventurer. She runs away meeting up with a commoner she knew and his sister. Together they travel to ...more

I love this series and enjoyed this unique story that a set of circumstances set this tale into motion. For Lady Charlotte Beaufort, she was enjoying her single status and did not make her parents happy with some of her antics, the fact that she has turned every suitor away and has shown no interest in marriage. Her father and mother have helped arrange a marriage with the Duke of Northerington. Charlotte realizes rig

The Betrothed ( Cutter’s Creek-Book 7 )
By: Vivi Holt

The Betrothed is book seven in Cutter’s Creek Series. I have really enjoyed these stories about Cutter’s Creek and the people. Holt pulled me in the Betrothed right at the start and did not let go till the end. Holt did not disappoint me. I love the story and the characters, both were easy yo follow. Lady Charlotte lives in England and is accustomed to the finer things in life, but she is not happy. When she is told that she is to marry a Duke

Author Vivi Holt is simply amazing! I have yet to read a book by her that is not great! This story was no different as it was a pleasure to read and captured my attention from beginning to end. I thought it was interesting and made for a different read having the story go from across the ocean to end up in Cutter’s Creek. Charlotte and Harry like each other however due to their social standings they appear conflicted with their feelings. It shows that no matter your standing in society the heart ...more

The Betrothed is Book 7 in the Cutter's Creek series. Lady Charlotte Beaufort from England has lived the life of luxury. That all changes when her parents force her to become engaged to the Duke of Northerington. She runs away without any idea about where she is going nor how she will survive. On the road she meets up with Harry Brown and his sister Camille who are commoners from the same village. They are running away to America, and they ask Lady Charlotte to come with them. Charlotte doesn't want an arranged marriage to a duke she has no feeling for so she runs away with no plans or destination in mind, her chance meeting with Harry and Camilla also running give her companions and a destination, their tale of struggles and trials to find a new life and new strengths within themselves make this an outstanding read. I am looking forward to the next book in the series

The Headstrong Lady

Wonderfully narrated by Paul Curtis, author Vivi Holt's story of a spoiled English noblewoman's encounter with the realities of life as experienced by others provides a combination Victorian and Wild West romance which must have taken a great deal of research. The main protagonists eventually discover faith-based acceptance and joy. For the rest I offer no spoilers--you'll have to enjoy for yourself!

The betrothed

A grand adventure to find you only had to open your eyes and heart to gain what you seek. I loved the slow walk to love. I like how it started with young impulsive kids and ends with mature adults who still possesses that glowing light for possibilities. Well written.
