Healing The Wounded Soul

Rate this book
If you've ever tried to help a troubled friend, a wayward youth, or a struggling family member, you know how frustrating it can be to see them "self-destruct." In this inspirational talk, Brother Jack R. Christianson offers valuable insights and provides powerful hope for those working with misguided souls. "Most people misbehave not because they are bad," says Brother Christianson, "but because they are wounded in some way. We need to look beyond the behavior to understand how they are hurting or why they are insecure. We've got to be more patient as we deal with wounded hearts." He suggests that we follow Jacob's teachings and try "the pleasing word of God, yea, the word which healeth the wounded soul" (Jacob 2:8). Using touching stories and insightful quotes and scriptures, Brother Christianson teaches us how we can help others in the healing process.

Jack R. Christianson was my mission president. I love to read his books or listen to his CDs and learn from him again. This book is a great compilation of some of his best teachings. The story of his hunting dog Cassie has forever changed me. I also love his insights on how meditation and immersion in scripture bringing Christ’s healing into our lives.

I learned that for Christ to heal us, we need to hold more firmly to the Iron Rod, which is the Word of God. And not just reading our scriptures but "feasting upon the word of God." It's funny how you read things a million times, but it doesn't sink in until it's spelled out for you by someone else.

Quick read. I loved how he discussed that most people don't misbehave because they are bad but because they are wounded in some way; it's not our place to judge, but to understand HOW they're hurting. He also had some great analogies. I learned a lot and will definitely read this book again because it's so short and to the point.

I really liked this book. The information was very comforting and helpful for me to try to change my mindset on how to look at some teens that I get to work with right now. Trying to understand them more is something I need to pray about. I also liked his sick dog story as a way to understand others.

Quick read. I liked the parable of the dog. I think it could be more specific about how the healing actually takes place—maybe more examples and a foray into repentance.
But overall, sweet and doctrinally sound.

Beautiful, quick read that helps us understand how to help and not judge those that are wounded, which in many ways can be all of us.

Simple but powerful reminder that people are often acting from a place of hurt, not weakness. Instead of judging actions, try to understand the pain behind them. Loved the story of his dog.

Fantastic book and explanations of healing - we are all wounded to some extent at some time in life’s journey. This teaches grace for others and for ourselves.

Loved this book. I actually heard the audio of it before I ever read the book, but I loved it both ways. He helps us understand why people do things to protect themselves, but mostly he helps us understand how we can heal our spiritual/emotional wounds. It's a wonderful book.

Wonderful book (or book on CD) that teaches doctrines and gives wonderful insights on how the Savior can heal each of us. I also loved how he gave examples of how we should treat others with that in mind b/c we don't know how they have been hurt or why they act the way they do.

People do everything for a reason. There are wounds that we can't see. Nobody sets out to mess up their life or anybody else's.

What comforting words to read. I'm so grateful for authors who are aware of what some of us go through and try to help us understand. We are never alone, are we.

I really liked this book of only 88 pages. Christianson has some really good thoughts, and I especially liked the ideas on scripture study. I would recommend this for a short, inspiring read.
