Even before the second semester of his sophomore year at Columbia began, Trey Holland knew his life would be completely different by the end of it. He had yet to meet the pretty–yet flustered–freshman who he’d be mentoring on the school paper. He had yet to discover the despicable secrets his new best friend was hiding.

All Trey knew at the time was that the relationship wi

description

This is my first book read by this author and I truly did like her writing style. This story is told in the all-male pov of Trey Holland. The Hollands are somewhat considered NYC royalty. Not reading any of the prior books by this author didn’t hinder my reading enjoyment as this seems to be the standalone story of a son of a former hero and heroine.

Trey Holland is a bit of a local celebrity in town as he attends Columbia University, swims for their team, and writes for his school’s new

New cover... yeah, it's a woman's prerogative to change her mind. That's what they say, right? This is one of the great perks of being an Indie author. I can change the cover however many times I want before publication. LOL.

This book hooked me from pretty early on. I just love this author's story telling and the beautiful characters she creates. Love the man Trey Holland has become, his vision of life and the way he loves. I felt connected to the heroine, Coley very quickly. She is such an interesting character and I love how passionate she is about the things she loves and the people she loves. Their love story is simply beautiful. In the Wake of Wanting besides being a beautiful love story full of romance with al ...more

For years now, I’ve been reading fiction from a variety of genres, and Lori Otto has become one of my very favorite authors. She writes about family and friendship. Loyalty and love. Sometimes she writes about topics which are relevant to current events. Her newest novel, In the Wake of Wanting, embodies all of these characteristics and so much more.

Before I begin my review In the Wake of Wanting, it would be remiss of me to not share Otto’s author note:

“Portions of this book deal with the sensi

This book is not part of a series and can be read as a standalone, but know that it involves characters from books previously written by Lori. If you're familiar with her books, you already know Trey, so there's a huge chance that you already love him.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Portions of this book deal with the sensitive subject of rape and sexual abuse. While the incidents are not 'experienced' first hand, they are retold in hindsight by characters. The descriptions of the events are brief, and while the

The stories you hear on the news or online, especially in today's society where things go viral and spread fast, is cruel. From campus rape to rumors and slut shaming and name calling behind computers, it's everywhere.
In the Wake of Wanting tackles such subject matters. Even though it's a work of fiction, it is so relevant and real in today's society. The author takes on this subject matter with such honesty, heart, compassion and really gets you to put yourself in other people's shoes, be less

I'm so happy every time I hear Lori L. Otto has a new book coming out. Her characters make you care about them. She is great at acchieving that feeling and I always feel like they are one of my friends.

I loved Trey! He is such a good man. Respectful, caring and thoughtful. I always appreciate people thinking before acting especially in those times you need to be rational. It's refreshing to see him being impulsive and discover a new side of him.

His love story is passionate and sweet. It is inte

This is one of the most timely, powerful book i have ever read so far. It is not for the weak of heart or for people who are too sensitive about this taboo topic. Nevertheless, Lori Otto delivered his message very well. I think i might have stopped a few pages at a time in between my reads and took me a while before i finally have the courage to finish this book - none the less I was pretty much in awe of the characters, of the plot and of the message the author is trying to tell his readers abo ...more

Because Love

Wow I loved every chapter, every paragraph, every sentence, every word, right down to every letter. This book was beautifully written. As soon as I started it I was hooked. Yes there are touchy topics but Lori Otto done a wonderful job writing about them. She took such a tough subject and made it into a story full of love and happiness.

When I started this book I wanted to punch Trey Holland in the face. Then I wanted to punch Zaina in the face for being a whiny baby. As it turns out I am incredibly proud of Trey and the decisions he made and why he made them. And Coley... what an amazingly strong woman character! Because Love

Once again, Lori Otto has broached a difficult, and important subject, that is gaining more and more attention in today's society: college rape. And while that isn't the whole story, it's a big part of the story.

Many of these characters we know, and a good few we meet for the first time in this book. As always, Lori makes it easy to slip inside the minds of her characters and feel what they're feeling. This is sometimes an emotionally difficult path to follow, but it's always worth it.

This was a really good read. I like that the author was going to write it a certain way then when she heard about the college rapist going free that she decided to write it a whole new story. It totally worked. If you don't know...this book is a story about college rape. So it's kind of graphic if you're sensitive to that stuff. Happy ending too. Also loved how the author put hotline numbers in case someone out there needs help. This was very well written. I'm glad I got to meet Lori at HWTB las ...more

Wow. Just. Wow.

I bought this book originally because to be honest, I loved the cover. It was truly refreshing and just looked interesting to me. I read a little bit of the synopsis and it looked intriguing.

What this book was was so much more than intriguing. I think from the very first few words of the beginning paragraph I was so hooked and couldn't seem to put it down. There's a lot of pages in this book, more than I'm used to reading at least and I read it in a little over a day being home

Wow. That's the first word that comes to mind after finishing this book! I am always amazed at Lori's stories, the eloquentness of them, the simple beauty written within the pages, the way she can tell such an epic love story that will stay with you long after the last page. While this story is a love story, there is also a darker side to this.

A situation one of our beloved character has to face, not only the violent crimes committed against some of his friends, but also the war within his hear

In true Lori L. Otto fashion, I am left in love and in awe. I have fallen in love with Trey and Coley and felt every shred of emotion known to man while reading the masterpiece that is In the Wake of Wanting

This book explores many facets of humanity. It is not unrealistic in the sense that these things that occur within the pages of the story do occur in real life. Every emotion was tangible as I turned page after page. We once again see characters we love, but this doesn't deter from the stor

I'm not going to lie - parts of this book were really hard to read. It took me a long time to get through it. But it was worth it. It was real. It was heartbreaking. It was sweet. In The Wake Of Wanting deals with difficult subject matter, in a way that is both eye-opening and refreshing.

I adored Trey and Coley. I loved their relationship and that although the "insta-love" thing was there, they didn't immediately act on it. I loved that although Trey was rich and famous, he didn't act like a spo

Each time I read a new book by Lori it makes an entry in my favorite books shelf.. This one was no exception. This book was not a quick read, just like Love Will, this book took me almost a week to read - it can't be rushed through, it has to be devoured, loved, lived in. Both Coley and Trey are such beautiful characters, so rich in their souls.. I loved each word of this unbelievably deep and wonderful story! Thank You, Lori, for giving the world Your amazing books!!

*full disclosure: I was gifted a copy of the book for an honest review. Find it below.*

I find myself agreeing with the reader below who at first wanted to punch Trey and Zaina in their faces because I couldn't get over their actions. It's no secret that Lori L. Otto is one of my favorite authors to read. The world that she has created for her readers makes you want to stay there forever. One if my favorite things about her stories is that yes they can be read as standalones (unless part of a series) but they all are interwoven and the reading experience is enhanced when you have read them all.
If you are caught up on her novels, you already know and probably love Trey. In the Wake of Wanting, there were times I felt like I c

Well written, new adult romance with themes of celebrity, sexual assault/crimes, and family. It started out a bit slow, yet the story held my interest. When the main characters, Trey and Coley, eventually get together the story moved super fast with all the drama and developments surrounding Trey and his friends. I started to get bored with the romance because of the crazy fast instalove that happened, with the overdoing of sharing feelings and saying some really cheesy stuff I’m sure the author ...more

From the moment I first read Lori Otto's books, I have been a huge fan and am always eagerly waiting for a new book to come out. After reading the Emi Lost and Found series, I quickly fell in love with all of these characters, and this is one book I was so excited to see Lori write.

It's no surprise that I was left speechless and in awe reading Lori's latest release.

In the Wake of Wanting can be read as a standalone but does have characters from previous books. If you haven't read anything else by Lori Otto, don't let that shy you away from this book.

This book is told in the point of view of Trey Holland, son of Emi and Jack. His character is a breath of fresh air. He's fiercely loyal, hard working, kind and compassionate. He's brave and thoughtful. No he's not perfect. As
