While in the process of planning my new balcony garden, I spotted this on the library shelf and hoped it might be a useful guide. It's a good reference book where the author makes the distinction between balcony plants and container plants, which aren't always the same. The majority of the book is an alphabetical listing of plants, complete with photos, care tips, and design suggestions. I won't be using it to select my flowers but it's given me some ideas as to what to look for.
