His compositions were chosen by two nations as national anthems: India's Jana Gana Mana and Bangladesh's Amar Shonar Bangla.

বাইশে শ্রাবণে পাতা উল্টাচ্ছিলাম রবিঠাকুরের কাব্যগ্রন্থ 'প্রান্তিকে'র।
কবিগুরুর বার্ধক্যে, মৃত্যু যখন খুব দূরে নয়, সেসময়কার মৃত্যু চিন্তা নিয়ে লেখা কবিতাগুলো আছে এখানে। তিনি তার মৃত্যুর জন্য প্রস্তুত ছিলেন। মৃত্যুকে তিনি দেখেছিলেন পরিপূর্ণতা হিসেবে। মুক্তি হিসেবে। নতুন পথের শুরু হিসেবে। ক্লান্তি-জীর্ণতা ঝেড়ে ফেলার উপায় হিসাবে। নিজের জীবনকে নিয়ে কোনো আফসোস ছিল না। সুখ-দুঃখ, সাফল্য ব্যর্থতা, খ্যাতি-অখ্যাতি সব কিছুকেই দেখেছেন একটি পূর্নাঙ্গ জীবনের অনুষঙ্গ হিসেবে। অফুরন্ত মহাবিষ্ময়ের নতুন জীবনে পদার্পণ কালে এই জীবনকে প্রণতি জানাতে চেয়েছেন। তবে এ জগতের কুৎসিত, বীভৎসকে তুলে ধরে রাখতে চেয়েছেন যাতে এ সমস্ত যখন থাকবে না তখন যেন এ সমস্তের জন্য লজ্জাটা অন্তত রয়ে যায় আর আহ্বান জানিয়ে গেছেন বিষাক্তের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াইয়ের।

মৃত্যুর সংগ্রামশেষে নবতর বিজয়যাত্রার।"
