A Tiger Tale

Rate this book
A moving story about coping with loss from bestselling author Holly Webb. Kate's grandfather has died and she's missing him desperately. Her Mum wants Kate to talk about it, but it only makes Kate angry. Granddad has gone and he's never coming back. At least she has her toy tiger, Amos, to keep her company. It was a present from Granddad, and somehow holding him close makes Granddad seem less far away. But she doesn't expect Amos to turn into a real tiger - a big, comforting, friendly tiger who smells of Granddad, and sounds like him too.

This book was something special. Heartfelt, emotional and about a very important topic. I really enjoyed reading this to my 5 year old. She loved it too. Part fantasy, part fictional, it was a joy.

A lovely touching book. But I feel like it needs a bit more story at the end.

She thinks she’s so perfect. She’s too important to hang around with us. Looking down her nose all the time. We didn’t want you anyway.”

A story about coping from loss, about a girl Kate who has lost her granddad. More details are given in the description of the book. But the author's literary style of expression and story telling is not much appealing to children. It fails to hold the attention right from the beginning. I found it a but boring and stretched while reading. It wasn't neither good choice for read-aloud nor for self-reading.
The Secret Garden is the ultimate book for the bereaved child.

A heartwarming tale about an 8 year old girl getting over the loss of her Grandfather. The tiger is beautifully illustrated too.

I read a paperback proof copy.

I read this for a junior fiction award at work and found it to be a very emotional read. Holly Webb has devised a very clever and subtle way of helping children with grief.
