FASHIONPEDIA is a visual fashion dictionary covering all the technical terms from style to material to production with illustrations and infographics. It encompasses rich, extensive information and yet is easy to read. Whether you are an industry insider or a fashion connoisseur, FASHIONPEDIA is all you will ever need to navigate the fashion scene.
As someone who is new to sewing, I appreciated how thorough this book was and how it had the basics but also has really detailed information about the clothing production industry. That's not relevant to what I do but I liked learning about it.
I love this book and wish I would have found it much, much sooner.
If you wear clothes, you can make use of this book. If you've ever wondered what the exact name of that thing you love wearing is called, you can find it in here.
If you're a writer, artist, sewist or designer this could be an invaluable reference resource. Has sections on everything you can think of: jackets, shirts, dresses, pants, skirts, underwear, collars, hats, masks, watches, gloves, gems, rings, piercings, fiber, yarns, weaves, leather, lace, production, etc.
The visuals are beautifully done, graphs are informative and to the point, the little fun facts scattered throughout are charming and the book itself is probably the highest quality I own.
Not actually a long read-just over 300 pages and the majority is visual. My read time is a bit misleading: basically scattered across 2 actual days of reading.
Overall, perfectly happy with this and will probably go back to it a lot as I get more involved in making clothing.
I am a home sewist, and this is the perfect resource for inspiration and informing next makes. It is not essential as I am not in the fashion industry, however it is a lovely book to have that is well presented and the images of different style lines are very helpful when considering drafting, pattern hacking, or just searching for patterns with interesting details.
Great reference book for styles in pretty much every article of apparel, hair styles, footwear, accessories, fabric, etc. Also has world history of fashion styles of the 20th century. Love this book. Great for people working in costume or fashion design.
I bought this book for character design reference initially, but I consider it responsible for my foray into clothes. This gave me the language to look for exactly what I wanted, and how I want it. If you make or work with clothes, this is probably useful for the intended purpose, too.
It is a very good guide for us, the fashion designers but it has a disadvantage. In flat templates/techical scetches it doesn't have the back. In other books tgey have it
If you have even a slight knowledge of fashion, this book is not for you. Do not be fooled, there is nothing in the book, which would earn implying it has something to do with dictionary. I was utterly disappointed about the quality of the content. From annotation: "It encompasses rich, extensive information and yet is easy to read." It sure is easy to read, because it's basically coloring book. From all 300+ pages, I found around 10 pages, which did have useful information.
