Content/Scope: This resource is targeted for students’ ages 7-10. It provides information on forces of nature such as geysers, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and many more! It also includes a guide in the back where students can create their own earth-related activities.
Accuracy/Authority/Bias: Scholastic, a well-known company, publishes this resource. This text includes relevant and appropriate information for elementary students and their science content. Grades 2-5 have earth sciences within the new NGSS standards. This resource can also be purchased using Scholastic Dollars from Scholastic Book Fair sales.
Arrangement/Presentation: This resource is great for most ages of elementary students. It is highly engaging with all of the mysterious forces of nature that it explains. It has an easy to read layout that include text features such as a glossary and index to guide students to specific topics.
Relation to other works: I chose this atlas based on the reliability of the publisher and the recommended reading level. I feel that this text is able to support most of the population of elementary students. This would be a resource that is highly utilized within the collection.
Accessibility/Diversity: This resource helps to meet the needs of many learners. Because of the included text features and average reading level, most students are able to use it to make meaning of their science content. The glossary and index also aid in teaching information inquiry skills of locating information.
