My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I got a copy of this book by signing up for her newsletter, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!

This was published as Tutoring the Wolf in 2016, but I suspect it is going to be re-released as Schooling the Wolf, but I’m not positive because it isn’t listed as that anywhere at this time, but it is too good not to review. This is the first book in the Penrose Magical Academy series, and I hope there is a lot more.

I was pulled into the story from the first page. The world unfolded, and you learned about it, but in a way that had no slow parts just greatness. Cassie and Mal’s story is awesome. They are thrown together as a challenge to Cassie by her mother, the Dean. Her life is full of expectations of what she is supposed to do, but she doesn’t really live. Mal is a bitten werewolf with no control because he feels his life is over. They grow as people together, and it was awesome to read. I was smiling, crying, and laughing with them. I can’t wait to read more of this series, so please keep them coming Jacqueline!

I highly recommend to any paranormal fans who loves mixes of magic, wolf, witches, wizards, warlocks, and all sorts of college hijinks that comes when you add a little magic!

I LOVED this story! I am completely in love with Malcolm!
Cassie wasn't easy to like. I didn't like her at first. She was spoiled and stuck-up. But she started to loosen up as she spent more time with Mal. And it was clear miles away that they were meant to be together. They perfect for each other. Fireworks cracked between them when they were together. Cassie was literally on fire for Mal. And he and his wolf really really liked her.
And the ending was really hot. And cute. And fun.

I thought that this story – whilst clearly, and intentionally, referencing Harry Potter and Hogwarts- had some good ideas and some really great names for people.

It seems that there are 5 magical universities in North America and our heroine attended Penrose Academy. The 5 included Voudoun University which was a party school hidden in New Orleans and Our Lady of the Labyrinth in New Mexico which had no grades, no semesters and only ‘friends’ rather than students with a great golf course. The most interesting of course was the Northern Californian Arcane Polytechnic Institute, which occupied the same physical space as Stanford but was 10 seconds into the future, which meant that students could get degrees from 2 universities!

Penrose had a bar that sold Shamrock shakes – green with good luck charm included and a magical library which had book wars – where the books which suggested one theory would go to war with books that suggested an alternative theory; where the books moved about; where the books would give themselves up to a librarian if they were shelved incorrectly; and where the librarians were magically chained to the library and needed to be paid before you could enter the library. Another clear reference to other stories but done well enough not to irritate.

As the book also has the traditional werewolf struggling with his ‘curse’ and a witch and lots of references to current music I am sure it will appeal very much to the YA audience. The Harry Potter allusions help but don’t overpower and the writing style is fun and easy to read.

Seeing things from the other side
Cassie Blake is the brightest witch of her generation. Her life is all mapped out for her, mostly by her parents, and they push her hard. She has had an arranged engagement to a successful male of a prominent family. All she must do is keep her grade up. When she fails a class, that her parents told her was too hard to begin with, she will do anything to make it up. Except change to a lesser class.
The Dean, who is also her mother, gave her a task to help one of the inflicted wolf-shifters, who is failing all his classes. But according to her father it’s a set up for her to fail.
Malcolm Shepperd had everything he wanted. He was in a band and loved his music, girls threw themselves at him etc. All that came crashing down when he was bitten by a werewolf and changed. A pack took him in and seen he had a bit of magic so to help him learn control sent him to Penrose Academy. But he’s failing all his classes and no one ever seems to really try and help him. That is until he’s given a High Society girl to help him.
There may be an attraction but the two are from different world’s so to speak.
This is a very well written and entertaining story to read.

I did not like this wizarding world of prejudice.
Cassie is an overachiever of a witch and very singular in her outlook. Top at everything she does until one exam changes it all.
I was not impressed with Cassie at first but she grew on me very slowly and about 2/3rds of the way in I thought she had promise. The pressure she was under, albeit mostly from herself, was severe.
In the end she grew up and became a nicer person despite her horrendous parents.
Malcolm is a bitten werewolf.
Loved Mal from the get go. What a rotten time of it he had but he came across as nice and caring. Being called the Afflicted does not help the situation, nor does being put into a school that does not teach them.
After not liking Cassie’s parents at all in this book, I felt sorry for Cassie’s mum at the end when she told us about her lost werewolf love. There is a poor wolf out there without his mate due to prejudice and her not having the strength for what she believes in.
I read this book but it was not one of my favourites.

This is a great start to a new series. Penrose Academy is the College equivalent to Hogwarts. Witches and other magical students attend classes and live in dorms. As with any higher learning there are many different people from various backgrounds. Cassie is a privileged and somewhat snobby young lady. Her life is mapped out for her, graduate with honors and marry her prominent fiance and live happily ever after. Life rarely goes according to plan even for the magicals. Cassie is in danger of flunking a class. She feels the professor is unfair and wants her mother, the Dean of Students, to 'take care' of it. Instead she offers her a chance to tutor a failing student to earn extra time for her project to pass her class. She meets Malcolm, a shifter with magical that cannot do any magic. He is looked at skeptically since shifters are not the elite in the magical world.This is a clash of personalities. Cassie and Malcolm learn about magic and themselves. Want to know how it all turns out? Read the book!
There are many intriguing parts to this story. I want to know more about the library. You use pennies for payment for using the library. The librarians are mysterious and rarely talk. I want to know more about the dorms and how each student is placed in the dorm. What about Malcolm Pack and Desmond his Alpha? Who bit him so that he became a bitten werewolf? So many questions and I know that I will be getting the next book just to find out more! Great characters that are richly detailed. I started reading and I put it down only when it was finished.

As the hardest working witch at Penrose Academy of Magical Excellence, Cassie is sure she has aced her test; now all she has to do is pass her final exams, graduate, marry Anoxamander and her life will be perfect. But Cassie is stunned when she finds out that instead of acing her test, she has failed it; not only that she is told that her theories, while excellent, were unimaginative. Coming to an agreement with her mother, who is also the Dean of Academics, Cassie agrees to tutor Mal, a student who is failing all his classes - not realising she has been set up. Mal’s Alpha has sent him to Penrose to learn to control both his magic and his wolf. Before he was bitten, Mal was the lead singer and guitarist in a band, but his werewolf senses now make him erratic and out of control. Cassie soon comes to realise that she has been tutoring Mal all wrong; he did not need to kindle his talents, just control them, and she searches for ways to help Mal focus his gifts. In just half a week Cassie has been able to teach Mal more than any of his Professors have, but she wonders if he really needs her anymore. Mal wants to repay her somehow, but then she hits him square in the heart when he least expects it. Suddenly Cassie’s life too becomes completely upended. Mal’s wolf knows she is in trouble and she needs him. This was an excellent story to read, which I enjoyed very much. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Jacqueline Sweet is a good author in her own right and she has her own style. Her books keep you entertained. “Tutoring the Wolf” is just another example of her fine writing skills at work. Cassie Blake is not only the brightest witch of her generation, but her whole future is mapped out for her. She is engaged to the handsome and successful Anoxamander Bluefelt who is actually from a good wizarding family. All she has to do is keep her grades up and all her dreams will come true once she graduates. Things begin to take a turn for the worse when she forced to tutor the obnoxious werewolf Malcolm Sheppard. He is a waste of time and effort because he is the worst student at the academy. He had rather be a rock star. Her biggest problem with the werewolf is the way he keeps looking at her. The story line captivates you and holds you till the end of the book. The characters’ work perfectly with the storyline. A recommended read if you are interested in werewolves, witches and things that go bump into the night.

Cassie is the 20 year plan, never got lower than an A, slightly stuck up daughter of the college Dean. When her lack of imagination causes her to fail, and subsequently jeopardises her planned engagement to a well respected magical family, she takes on a project for extra credit. She never expected the project to be a newly minted werewolf!!!!!

Malcolm is freshly bitten and struggling to contain his wolf and wrangle his magic. His life was much simpler when it was just his garage band he had to worry about. Now he has an uppity Ms Perfect invading his life and trying to turn him into a well behaved, well read werewolf in 2 weeks!!

Cassie was a real struggle to like at first. She was just so up her own backside but she slowly thawed and I eventually grew to love her. Malcolm is such a sweetheart and just so lost after the loss of his music when he became a werewolf. I loved the little heart to heart that Cassie and her mum have at the end. There was almost tears!

3.5 stars for a short fun read, and I'll probably read more in this series. I had to take away some points though because while the front half of the book and characters were well developed, the second half felt rushed, like we'd skipped a few interactions: whatever became of her roommate/frenemy (?) Maddie? How was her mother reacting during the actual tutoring? When did she have time to work on her project and how did she come up with it? Like I said very funny and funny at parts, and I loved the characterization of Penrose, but I wish the second half of the book had had a little more before the final.

I loved this story and hope to hear more from Cassie and Malcolm in the future. I was a little surprised at how fast Cassie was able to help Malcolm with his control and at the same time he helps her to gain a little spontaneity in her magic. I hope this will be a new series from this author and look forward to anything else she will add to it in the future. Jacqueline Sweet is definitely on my list of authors to watch in the future.

Tutoring the Wolf by Jacqueline Sweet is a a great read. It is a fun, sweet story of a young witch and wolf shifter that fall in love and help each grow into their abilities. They both need each other to really bring happiness into their lives.

This was a good read for me. Cassie is book smart but needs a little work on her imagination and to get a chance to redo her paper she must agree to tutor Malcom a new changed werewolf. Malcolm is struggling to come to terms with what he now is and how to keep some of his old self. The story is fun and fast paced with plenty of drama. I really liked it.

Cassie Blake thought she had her life sewed up but when she failed to get the grade she thought she deserved she is given a choice take easier classes or tutor another student. Malcolm Sheppard thought he could never learn anything about magic but when Cassie comes to his rescue his life changes.
