1.5 stars I guess...
The book has a nice start, the main character seems interesting and she has a fun personality. The problem is the storyline. In the first chapter, Sophie Morrigan (working for a government agency specialized in retrieving magical objects) steals a magic necklace from a dragon shifter and there is an emphasis put on the fact that the necklace is very mysterious, that it might be dangerous, and that she cannot wear it. Things even go south because the dragon seems hypnotized by the necklace and won’t give it to Sophie.
But here I am now at 50% of the book and we seem to have completely forgotten about the necklace except a few times when Sophie thinks how sad it is that she lost it when she is in fact wearing it. The necklace obviously has some magic that messes with her memory, so she forgets that she is wearing it and she keeps it on (see? very mysterious magic necklace here). The first 10% of the book are about Sophie retrieving the necklace and everything after that is about her wondering who exactly is the Morrigan (her mother) and trying to seduce a rich man to get him to bring her to his place so she can steal a book that she will exchange for information about her mother. There is not even a nice heist plot. It is just trying to seduce the guy, failing lamentably, dressing sexier, and trying again the next day, succeeding, end of the heist plot.
Honestly, I am just tired of reading about her clothes, how she failed at seducing him, and how she tries to be sexy even though she does not do social (according to her). I just don’t see where this story is heading. I don’t care about Sophie’s relationship struggles and even if the necklace becomes relevant again, I don’t see how this story could evolve into something interesting and developed with only 60 pages left.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review
Bound by Faerie is a fun action packed, fast paced book filled with magic, faeries and more. The blurb really does a great job giving you the gist of this book, a routine job doesn't go as smoothly as planned and Sophie, the main character, needs the help of Owen. It was such a fun read and I read through this one pretty quickly. There is no dull moment and it got my attention from the first chapter and I kept enjoying it.
There is a main plot line surrounding the mission that doesn't go smoothly that's the main focus on the story, but there are also some side plot lines. The main plot line/ adventure gets wrapped up nicely at the end of the book, but there's enough open and possibilities for later books in the series. Many of those side plot lines are left unresolved, which only makes me more curious about what we will learn about those in the next book. Mostly these side plot lines have to do with Sophie her magic or the side characters. There was a reveal later in the book that was very interesting and I hope we learn more of what this means in the next book!
Sophie is a feisty and snarky main character who isn't afraid to speak her mind, even if it gets her trouble sometimes. And she fights with two swords, who each have a name. She can turn into a crow and has some other cool magical abilities. She doesn't go out of the way of a good fight and lands in plenty of them in this book. I enjoyed reading about Sophie and her adventures, although she really could do with some better social skills, but she seems aware of that herself and her bluntness and snark seems to be part of her personality. And while her job is basically stealing magical artifacts she still has some morals or lines she prefers not to cross unless necessary.
Besides Sophie, there are some fun side characters. Like Owen, whom we learn is more than just a pretty face as he seems to be at first. And her prank loving roommate who is a dryad. Then there is Ava who is a bit mysterious, but I liked the glimpses of her that we got. And Art who we only meet shortly in this book was interesting as well.
The world building seems to be a bit of a mash of supernatural things, all labeled faerie. But it worked. It seems a bit confusing at first and I would've liked to get more of a view of what was out there, but the authors do a good job of giving the reader enough of a glimpse into this world and what's possible. I also liked how Faerie actually seemed foreign and they really described the otherworldliness of the place very well.
I also liked how the authors stayed with the whole faeries can't lie thing and also how the characters can not straight out lie, but can skirt around the truth. There also was a fun tidbit with how saying thank you leads you to owing a favor to the one you thanked, which seemed interesting. I also wonder if we will see more of the favors Sophie owes in the next books. I also liked the cool powers the characters had like how the main character could turn into a crow. Overall it was fun getting to know this world, I just want to see even more of it!

I’m not sure how I found this book but I’m glad I decided to read it. I found it quite entertaining. I love fae, dragons and everything in this book. I will be buying the next book soon!

I didn't hate it.

This started out great. I really liked the main character and could follow her easily. Sophie has a fun personality and the scenes moved quickly. It lost me when it lost track of what we were doing and what the prose was promising. First scene, she steals a necklace from a dragon, and seemingly feels compelled to put it on. A very mysterious item that the first chapters emphasize might be something to keep an eye on or be wary of. You think, "okay, so, she's a magical item bounty hunter for some agency and we're gonna learn about this thing or it's going to affect her in some way, it'll give her trouble at work because she is strangely possessive and can't take it off, etc."
Not sure when that is supposed to happen because it is immediately forgotten and brushed aside when focus shifts to her mysterious heritage. Some strange power shows up in the confrontation with the dragon and Sophie realizes how little she knows about herself and her legendary mother, The Morrigan. So, no more necklace or possessive paranoia, now we're hunting down the answers about her blood so that she can better control herself for her job. In her search and getting help, she is advised to steal a book from some rich guy with supposed answers in it. But this is less a heist plot and more a "seduce and infiltrate" plot. And it stops dead in its tracks as Sophie fails to properly appeal to her mark in a show of social ineptitude that was not previously made apparent with either her line of work nor all the characters she's talked to up to this point.
All of a sudden, forget the odd necklace she still hasn't taken off or turned into the Agency, forget her mom and dangerous powers; all that sense of urgency is tossed out the window to focus on how Sophie just "doesn't people" and she needs therapy and coaching to enable her to get on with this guy she turned off by subtly insulting him(honestly, from what offended him, I'd say this is less about Sophie not being good at social interaction and more that this guy is overly sensitive and has no game; like, he can't roll with the punches, take a hit to his ego, and tease her a bit for accidentally insulting him? Who's the one with no charisma again?).
It shifts gears too much to the point where it no longer felt like I was reading the same book. I'm just not invested in Sophie's dating problem when we had two interesting plot ideas previously that no longer seem relevant. DNF at 30%.

I gave it 3.5 stars
With an even pace and a good amount of twist and turns BOUND BY FAERIE was a good start to the Personal Demons series.
What really grabbed me about BOUND BY FAERIE was the fact that Sophie had a neat sounding job and I wanted to know more. The story starts off right away with Sophie on a case to collect a dangerous necklace that she underestimates and it ends up biting her in the ass. On top of that, Sophie steals from Owen, a nightclub owner, and ends up having to work with him to figure out her problems without really knowing what he is getting out of the deal. They are both highly irritated by the other, but when they are actually working on the same goal, work pretty well as a team—not to mention the romantic spark that is between them.
I found that the world in BOUND BY FAERIE was a little jumbled, which made it a bit hard to get into. It did end up growing on me and I did enjoy learning all the different parts that made the story. I also wish that the characters were a little more developed. There is plenty of time to do this in book two though and the range of different characters kept things interesting. I just wanted to know more about them and didn't really get it.
I'm not 100% sure that I would pick up the next book in this series. If I'm being honest, when I sat down to write this review I couldn't remember what the book was about until I re-read the blurb a few times and it finally came flooding back to me. Has this happened before? Sure, but I look for a book to really stick into my head before I'm sure I want to continue the series. I am hoping now that it's fresh again in my mind that I will remember it when book two comes around. We shall see!

Bound by Faerie is the first book written by a husband and wife writing duo in their Stolen Magic series. I don't always accept review requests, but the premise of this one was intriguing. I'm really glad I took a chance on it, because now I can't wait for more from this series.
I don't like to compare authors and series, so I'm not going to. What I will say is that if you like Urban Fantasy or PNR on the lighter side, this is a series that you are going to want to give a try. Bound by Faerie is light, but not silly. The characters are fun and they had a personality that made me want to get to know them better. There was also plenty of action, danger and mystery to keep the pages turning. I also enjoyed the authors' twist on some familiar mythology. They did a great job at not straying too far, but making the characters unique enough to call their own.
I'm not sure when the next book is due to be released, but I'll most definitely be watching for it. :)

Bound by Faerie begins with Sophie having to retrieve an item from a dragon that ends up going wrong. Things get complicated after the job goes bad, not only that she also ends up running into another man who seems to know how to help her. Sophie must do what she can in order to figure out her problem, even if she must learn how to finally have friends.
This book was really pretty good. I enjoyed the plot line, and I liked the heroine. I was a bit annoyed with what happened at first, but I soon learned why it happened. Other than that it had some funny parts, a unique kind of heroine, and maybe a potential hero. Although, the hero was a bit frustrating, and it was annoying the way he reacted towards the end, but other than that it was really pretty interesting. I do look forward to reading more in this series.

A paranormal lover dream!!!
There is nothing like a great fantasy, one that comes with a kick ass fae, that is also a shapeshifter named Sophie. Bound by Faerie is funny, fast paced, and filled with all the magic a paranormal lover will ever need, but don't take my word for it, this is one journey you will have to read for yourself. One word of advice don't miss out on this amazing story, because this story was rich and funny well defined characters in it. Dreamers this on made my top 10 !!!!!

This was a fantastic start to a series. I had a great time reading this book. The story was quick paced, with witty dialogue and entertaining characters. Sophia is an awesome and feisty heroine. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Bound by Faerie is my first book by W.B. McKay, and I’m really happy I stumbled onto it. A strong heroine, action, and magic drew me in completely.
Summary:
Being magically inclined, Sophie Morrigan didn’t have a normal upbringing, even compared to her Banshee sisters. Her magical talents are quite unique, but she’s found a way to put them to good use by working as an agent for the Faerie Affairs Bureau (FAB). Retrieving dangerous magical objects appeals to her covetous nature and pays the bills. But her bills are the last thing on her mind when her current job goes sideways. Now, she’s got to concentrate on staying alive and keeping her death magic reigned in. Not trusting her ability to keep ahold of magic she doesn’t understand, Sophie is led to Owen to help her get answers. Owen is a sexy nightclub owner as well as a dragon-shifter. He’s also fond of books. Very old books that may just hold the key to all Sophie’s problems. Getting access won’t be easy, though. Especially when that sideways job takes her into Faerie with Owen as a partner. Danger awaits them at their destination. Sophie and Owen will have to fight to get home or fall prey to an irrational death cult.
I really enjoyed the first book in the Stolen Magic series. I was reading through samples of other UF on Amazon and happened across Bound by Faerie while having trouble deciding on a book to read. This book was exactly what I was looking for. I adored Sophie. She was badass, snarky, sarcastic, funny, and very relatable. Her social awkwardness was endearing, and I connected with a lot of her inner dialogue, as it reminded me of when I speak to myself. Lol. Her magic is impressive, maybe made more so since both Sophie and us don’t understand it completely. I like that she uses her magic frequently, but isn’t afraid to fight either. Her swords, which she names (I love this), are like an extension of her, and she sure knows how to use them. The mystery of where her magic originated was unique and kept my interest, as well did the plot centered around her mission gone bad. Supporting cast was funny and gives the potential for multiple cast member development. Owen especially, seems to have more going for him than just his looks and way with women. Events are such, that I feel he has a story we’ll learn right alongside Sophie's. Overall, this quick read was exactly what I was looking for, and gave me a chance to get to know a new author duo’s writing style. The world-building had elements of real-life mythology as well as small touches I imagine are unique to the authors. Sophie gives me the feeling of a magically inclined new friend, and I’m looking forward to reading more of her action-packed journeys as a supernatural FBI agent (and can I just say I love that she can call herself a FAB agent). ♡
Summary:
Being magically inclined, Sophie Morrigan didn’t have a normal upbringing, even compared to her Banshee sisters. Her magical talents are quite unique, but she’s found a way to put them to good use by working as an agent for the Faerie Affairs Bureau (FAB). Retrieving dangerous magical objects appeals to her covetous nature and pays the bills. But her bills are the last thing on her mind when her current job goes sideways. Now, she’s got to concentrate on staying alive and keeping her death magic reigned in. Not trusting her ability to keep ahold of magic she doesn’t understand, Sophie is led to Owen to help her get answers. Owen is a sexy nightclub owner as well as a dragon-shifter. He’s also fond of books. Very old books that may just hold the key to all Sophie’s problems. Getting access won’t be easy, though. Especially when that sideways job takes her into Faerie with Owen as a partner. Danger awaits them at their destination. Sophie and Owen will have to fight to get home or fall prey to an irrational death cult.

Sophie Morrigan's mother is THE Morrigan, renowned for her battle prowess and insatiable appetite for violence. Most fear her, some worship her, and her daughters wonder why she keeps having and abandoning children. Sophie is raised by one of her sisters, Belinda, in the insular Banshee community comprised entirely of Morrigan daughters. In many ways, she is more like her fabled mother and has unique talents and attributes that make her feel like an outsider. When Sophie reaches adulthood, she decides to move away and work for the Faerie Artifacts Bureau (FAB) in the Magical Object Division (MOD) as a field agent hunting down and retrieving dangerous magical items before they create too much havoc in the Faerie or human realms.
Sophie's latest retrieval forces her to face some uncomfortable truths. Suppressing her ability to manifest glowy balls of instant death isn't a good long term solution. Ava, her best Fae source for information, can't help, but knows someone who can. All she needs to do is seduce an arrogant nightclub owner and sneak a peak at his extensive library of Fae history. Two problems. Her seductress skills are a bit lacking, and the club owner is a very powerful dragon shifter who guards his treasure trove of rare books better than the Faerie equivalent of Fort Knox.

This is an enjoyable beginning of an urban fantasy series. Authors McKay weaves in Celtic mythology, dragons, and other fantastical facets in telling the story of Sophie Morrigan (daughter of The Morrigan) who didn't inherit her banshee sisters' abilities but instead has a whole new set of magical skills.
Sophie acts as a retriever of dangerous magical items, and she just might be in over her head this time. Happily she has friends and not so friendly folks to help her out. Add in a snarky Dryad 'roommate,' a dragon, a selkie partner, and others, and this series is off to a strong start.
The characters are fresh and fun, and the story moves at a good pace. The descriptions are solid and the dialogue fun. I look forward to reading more in the series.

Sophie under the spell of a necklace her boss sent her to retrieve from a dragon call Lou she comes across a bar and comes in contact with a dragon call Owen little did she know that Owen would end up helping her on this quest. Sophie and Owen heads to faerie land in order to get the necklace off of her only to let Owen come into play and stole the necklace and got himself caught by a cult. Who sacrifice dragons for their own version of a God, Sophie saves the necklace, Owen and the rest of the dragon people that were locked away in the dungeons.

Sophie is the daughter of the Morrigan and is afraid of how dangerous her powers might become. She steals from a dragon to try and find out more and she is under the influence of a necklace that wants her to go to faerie.
This was just all over the place. It was well paced but by the end, I wasn't even sure if there was any point.

Sophie, the heroine of this very entertaining story was completely inept in social interactions. Her condition added a degree of humor to the story as she continued to clumsily bungle any normal contact with the people around her. I found the narrative fast-paced with a few surprises and plenty of action. Very amusing story !!!

This isn't bad. Its not. It started off fairly well, just descended into a bit of chaos and not really in an easy to cope way. It was a little all over the place and confusing to be honest.
I'm glad I finally got around to reading this books. Its another one off my TBR thats been stuck there for years but I don't think I'll go and read the series..

Wow could not stop reading
A tale of crows, dragons, fairies and other magical creatures, so well written to capture the readers imagination. Loved the way it drew you in and held you captive in the story. Can't wait to read more.

Great Fun
I knew I'd like this book, but I had no idea how much. Sophie's sarcastic narration and quips cracked me up, the world and plot completely immersed me, and the chemistry between Sophie and Owen left me begging for more.

Great story
Great story and great cast of characters. I love it when myth and legend enter twine in fantasy novels. Plenty of Mac magic plenty of action plenty of mystery and definitely well worth the read. Check it out you won’t be sorry

Great book and start to the series
There's not much not to like about the book. Great writing, characters and fast paced plot. I'm glad to say I found another author to follow. I'm off to read the second book.

Terrific entertaining story by W.B. McKay.
I really enjoyed this story with all of the twists and turns.

awesome characters-but...
I loved the characters of this book, however- the story line left me disappointed. Sophie’s character was amazing, too bad there was more imagination need to fully develop her potential😢
