I enjoyed the first book in the Wrench Wars Series - Last Mechanic Standing - but "Wrenches, Regrets, And Reality Checks" was a definite "miss" for me. The plot is one-note, i.e. Wes is sent by the show producers, for some unexplained reason, to convince Reggie to do a spin-off show, with the ulterior motive of getting him off the show. With no other focus, the pace of this short novella seemed ... slow. Reggie and Wes finally act on their simmering sexual tension and while the sex is hot, there is little character development, and their HFN ending was unsatisfying. 2.5 stars.

I love the cover for this. Unfortunately, I didn't love anything else about it.
Sometimes a story, characters, setting, or pacing just might not agree with me. In this case it was everything. I thought the premise was weak, the characters not well fleshed out, and I didn't buy the connection between the main characters.

I read the second edition.
This is a part of the series I came to really like, because, mechanics !
But as much as I like LA Witt, the ending didn't give me satisfaction. It was nearly a HFN, but not even a HFN, just promises. It ended all of a sudden after 'that night'. And I'm still pissed.
But overall (except for the ending), this has a vibes of the series, even though I have no idea why the network wanted Reggie out in a first place. I guess, rating? But why Reggie, not the whole crew?
Just cut off the production and done. But, whatever.
I'll probably will have the answer in the next book of this series. And I'll definitely read it.
This one is short, same as the other two earlier, kinda entertaining, especially the heat factor :)

I was surprised to see that this is apparently part of a short series of stories that is set in the same location and in the same garage as the book, Normal Enough, that was written by Marie Sexton. I wasn’t aware of this when I bought it, but since I liked both these authors, it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the story at all. It is a short, sexy and sweet romance tale.
Reggie’s auto garage is part of a reality television show that auto shops compete against one another. The TV network has four regularly featured garages. For some reason, the network wants to remove this particular garage from the series. Since Reggie had a great lawyer negotiating his contract back before the show started over four years ago, there is only one way for the network to legally get out of the contract. Reggie has to refuse to do a spin-off reality show offered to him by the same network. Seemed like a 'no-brainer" to me if he wanted to continue to do the show. He needed to stay with it as his garage need the income to stay afloat.
Reggie also has a secret that may not remain so for very long... he's a closeted gay man. It only gets worse when the network sends a "sacrificial lamb" to offer Reggie a dating show similar to "The Bachelor". In their defense the network has no idea what they are about to stir up. Wes is one of the producers of "Wrench Wars" and finds that he is the unlucky man selected to propose the idea of a dating show to Reggie. Unknown to each of them, they have both been "behind the scenes" interested in the other for years, each having no idea if either man was gay.
Wes is not happy about being forced into this position because if Reggie refuses to do the dating show, his garage will be cut from the show and both he and Wes will be unemployed, meaning that they will no longer be able to see and look longingly at each other, even if from a distance. Wes and Reggie come up with a plan guaranteed to surprise the network executives that are trying to destroy both of their careers. In the process, they discover that maybe they don't need the network, the show, or the money, they just need each other.
This story is a short read that doesn't have a lot a lot of angst or heavy dialogue. My review was almost longer than the story:) It’s a great story about a "David" winning a battle over a "Goliath" with the help of his sexy lover.

This sexy little number hit the spot, but wasn't particularly memorable. I liked the characters and the premise in equal measure, but overall, the story was not particularly angsty, or funny, or sweet, or raunchy. There just wasn't a whole lot of emotion or action to sink my teeth into.

“Wrenches, Regrets & Reality Checks” by L.A Witt is the third book in the “Wrench Wars” series. The story is set at the same garage as the previous novella “Normal Enough”. This time the MCs are the ruggedly sexy and deliciously greasy garage owner, Reggie and the producer of the Wrench Wars show with a crush, Wes. This too has an HFN ending and although not over the top good, it was entertaining.
Wes has been given the impossible job to get Reggie, agree to do a spin-off show of the Wrench War series. In short he needs to convince Reggie to relinquish his hold on his garage or it will get axed from the show. Well it’s not something new in the ruthless world of entertainment but the one major problem is Wes has a huge crush on Reggie and he does not want him to be booted off his own garage.
Reggie is tired of all the drama and headache that comes with the reality show but he needs the show to keep his business afloat. Though he plays hard ass with the producers and director all the time, the ironclad contract is his only security against the cutthroat network execs. But when the network comes up with a devious plan to get him off the show, the contract is the only thing that is stopping him from saying no. Reggie knows that Wes is just the messenger plus he harbors a secret crush on the guy too. He is sure Wes is straight and except the fantasy of bedding Wes in his head, he can’t do more. So when a drunk Wes lets out that he is hot for Reggie, what can poor Reggie do??? Reggie needs to come up with a plan to defeat the network and also a way to make Wes his. Will he succeed??? Read to find out!!!
This story is pretty cut and dried. Wes and Reggie are on the opposite sides of the battle and they make an unlikely couple. But passion wins over. Wes is also a good guy and he does not want Reggie to be strong armed into the ridiculous spin off. Plus, seeing Reggie getting wooed by gorgeous women is not something Wes wants to watch on TV. And this is before he knew Reggie is gay. After the truth comes out, all bets are off.
In between some steamy bedroom action, Reggie and Wes are able to come up with a plan to save Reggie’s garage and start something new between them.
It’s a novella so the story is not that descriptive but the plot and the execution of it was pretty creative. I liked the ending. It was not something different but I found this book a huge improvement over the previous novella. The starting and progress of the relationship was satisfactory and the sexy times were HOT. So, yeah it was an ok read.

'Wrenches, Regrets and Reality Checks' by L.A. Witt is set in the same world and at the same garage as 'Normal Enough' by Marie Sexton. The funny thing is that I didn't know that until I started reading this book. The even funnier part is that when I was reading 'Normal Enough' I kept thinking it would be great if someone did a story about Reggie, his garage, and his reality TV show, Wrench Wars. Looks like I got my wish!
Four and a half years of a reality TV show can be exhausting. Just ask Reggie and his crew, they've spent a lot of time with cameras in their faces recording everything they do. The network wants Reggie gone now and they're willing to use a clause in his contract to ensure it. If Reggie doesn't participate as a bachelor on Anything to Marry Him then the network is canceling Wrench Wars. There are several problems with this, but the main one being Reggie is gay and he's not about to marry a woman. Unfortunately, Reggie can't afford to lose Wrench Wars since it brings in a lot of revenue and without it, Reggie can't keep the shop open. Crap.

This was just bad. Nothing made sense in this story. After reading it, I'm still confused on why the network wanted Reggie out. These two didn't mesh well for me. I didn't like the plot, two male characters, or the ending. Everything seemed out of place. I couldn't make sense of what was suppose to happen. The connection between the two characters were none existent. I didn't like the execution of the story at all. I know it's only 67 pages, but this was not good enough for me. It's basically pulling teeth the entire time, sexual tension, unresolved plot, and then they get together. It left me unsatisfied. Sorry but nope.

Isn’t it great when your favorite authors re-release books? I adore it! I am running up the down escalator attempting to put a dent in my to-read-list. It’s an endless battle of books and it’s a great problem to have. There are times that I wish I could simply binge read an author but more often than not, I take my time and savor their books as each one is their last. I adore LA Witt and hope to conquer her bookshelf one day and having this story pop up on my radar was a most excellent surprise.
We are working our way through the hot and hard mechanics of Wrench Wars and Reggie deserves a steamy bit of happiness in the midst of the chaos. I enjoyed Reggie as a secondary character and was stoked he steps into the limelight here. He’s been all work and no play for far too long and thankfully that’s about to change. When Wes lays down the networks’ ultimatum Reggie is backed into a corner. The biggest surprise is, he might not be alone. Care to find out?
What's to like: I’m always game for a collision of opposites, especially when clothing fall off in the wake of the crash. Reg and Wes are night and day but discover most differences fade when emotions take control. Neither think the other could be interested in getting to know the other better, but delightedly find out otherwise. Wes has lusted after the owner of the shop and leader of the crew on his network’s reality show ever since he laid eyes on him. He’s been a producer for several years and doesn’t have much pride in the career trail he’s left. He doesn’t fit in the with ruthless sharks in Hollywood but seems to be stuck on his current path. He risks it all when he spills his guts to Reg but some things are worth the gamble. Question is, will it pay off?
What's to love: Witt delivers another fantastic pair of men in a fantastically sticky situation. Her books are comfort reads and always leave me with a smile on my face and joy in my heart. It was fantastic having the previous couples continue to take part in the story. It’s always refreshing to know and adore the rest of the cast. I feel like part of the gang and cherish the love resonating from all directions.
Beware of: A very short novella (arguably too short) without a solid conclusion. HFN is not always a favorite of mine but I am holding onto high hopes of a HEA for Reg and Wes as the series continues. I have a strong feeling more heated drama is coming.
This book is for: If hot rods and the hotties who keep them purring hit your buttons, you’ll want to check this one out. Better yet, the series….they are short, sexy and loaded with spectacular guys.

I wasn't aware of this when I read it and it didn't affect my enjoyment of the story at all having not read any of the other stories. Wrenches, Regrets, and Reality Checks is a nice little summer read. Not a lot of angst or heavy dialogue. It's a great story about David beating the crap out of Goliath. With the help of his sexy male lover.

Carino anche questo terzo volume della serie. Mi dispiace però non averlo apprezzato come gli altri, perché, nonostante aspettassi la storia di Reggie, mi è sembrata incompleta. Sappiamo poco di loro e ci sono stati anche pochi momenti in cui li abbiamo visti insieme e non in officina. Un vero peccato.

Wow, what a trashy novella!! The main "getting in your pants" theme was IDIOTIC and the sex between Reggie and Wes horrible. I had to skip it entirely!

Well, I enjoyed this little short story. Set in the same garage as Marie Sexton’s Normal Enough, Wrenches, Regrets and Reality Checks is about Reggie, the garage owner and star of the TV reality show Wrench Wars. Well, actually, he is no longer the star and the network wants Reggie’s garage off of the show (I have no idea why) and has sent Wes over to inform Reggie he will have to participate in a dating type spin-off series or Reggie will be in breach of contract.
There’s some good tension between Reggie and Wes and when they finally hook up, its decently smexy. Okay, yeah, its HOT!
There isn’t a whole lot going on in this story other than the network/contract conflict which get resolved pretty easily, and comically at that. Wes and Reggie end up with a good HFN, but I believe a HEA is still possible for them.
I did have an issue with Kasey, the MC from Normal Enough. He didn’t really match up with what we know about him from reading his story. I’m assuming this story takes place at a later date…and maybe he has evolved…?

I’ve got a shocker here for you: I love L.A. Witt. Yes, I know you’re all stunned. Her books are all so very amazing. I’ve yet to read one I didn’t like. And there’s a variety of subjects she excels at, as well as a large range of feels and emotions. I’ve been known to call her a queen of angst, because she can tear my heart out and make me love it. But she can also write sweet. And, ladies and gentlemen, this story is so sweet and super sexy.
One of the things I love the most about it is also one of the reasons I didn’t give it a higher rating. This story did not end with a happily ever after. And honestly, it was perfectly matched as the timing didn’t allow for love, but it certainly allowed for lust. So yes, I love that it’s not an insta-love kind of story. But on the flip side, I wanted so much for this story to be longer, to actually see Wes and Reggie fall in love. I wanted them to fight for the love that is so clearly laid out for them. Yep, I love this beginning of the relationship, but I wanted more.

Wrenches, Regrets, & Reality Checks is the 3rd installment of the Wrench Wars novella/short story series, based around a reality television show featuring mechanics working on souped-up cars.
In this installment, the reader gets to see it from the production side with Wes, delving deep into the machinations of the show's producers.
The premise is what happens when a show-runner and a producer butt heads and fall into bed...
Truthfully, this didn't work for me, when I expected it to be fabulous. There was just something missing- a connection. What promised to be highly angsty was just one-note. With the previous installments, I felt it a complete story, as if I knew the characters, so the inevitable hookup felt realistic. But no matter how hot it is written, unless I'm (the reader) feels a connection to the characters, I feel numb. Maybe I'm just a sucker for a backstory, and there wasn't one given for either character so nothing anchored the story.
However, the preview of book 4 caught my attention, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next in the series.

I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
I have read the previous novellas in this series and this one was slightly disappointing. While the premise was good, I didn't feel that it really followed through. The story was too easy to predict.
The main characters were not developed that much and I felt that I was always wondering if there was more depth to their relationship other than the attraction.
Because this is such a short story, I can kind of understand why the development of the story was so predictable, but I think that the previous ones were less so.
Overall, this has been my least favorite of the series so far.

This is the third in the series of novellas involving sexy mechanics and their romantic entanglements. This one is slightly different as the reason that the two men get to talk is a negative reason, but they manage to turn it around. It is difficult to get a full romance, and a reasonable level of plot development in a novella, but this gave enough that we can believe things could work out. Hopefully we will get to see them again in future editions and watch things grow.

I bought the entire Grease Monkey collection from Amber Quill Press yesterday and I finished them all today.
This one just didn't work for me. I don't want to get into why, but it just didn't. I am bummed, because I wanted to like it.

There are some great one liners and serious sexual tension. I love this book so hard, I couldn’t stop reading! This is another fantastic story in the Wrench Wars Series.

I love this author, so I guess I was just expecting more. This was OK for me, I didn't really feel the connection between the two characters and overall the story just didn't completely work for me.

It didn't gel.
All the right components: sexy men, sexy cars, and conflicts…but, I never really jumped on board with story and felt arms-distance from the MCs.

Ci troviamo nella terza puntata dello show televisivo Wrench Wars. I meccanici sono sempre sotto pressione dopo le numerose stagioni, ma il pubblico sembra non apprezzare molto gli sviluppi. Gli ascolti sono in calo e la tensione è palpabile.
Wes è uno dei responsabili di minore importanza del network, in altre parole un povero sfigato, al quale è stata assegnata una bella rogna da portare avanti.
L’officina di Reggie è sempre stata sulla cresta degli ascolti e il proprietario fin da subito ha creato molti problemi con gli accordi televisivi, in modo che la sua officina non venisse stravolta ed abbandonata a piacimento dei produttori.
Reggie è praticamente un uomo da sogno e questo non aiuta l’ingrato compito di Wes. Fin da subito infatti si percepisce la forte attrazione del ragazzo verso il proprietario, e le scintille tra loro non vi lasceranno affatto delusi.
I responsabili del network mettono a dura prova l’attrazione di Wes con il suo senso del dovere, le pressioni sono alle stelle e quella maledetta clausola sugli spin-off è un’arma a doppio taglio…
Anche questa volta la Witt mi ha pugnalato dritto al cuore.
Ci si innamora fin dalle prime righe dei personaggi e gli occhi scorrono veloci sul testo.
Un romanzo breve? Sì, ma di un impatto micidiale. Ha un livello di suspense davvero alto e contestualizzato bene con i precedenti libri della serie. Ci saranno veloci comparse dal passato e sicuramente vi tornerà la voglia di rileggerli tutti.
Dolce, appassionante e sexy. Consigliato!

Romance and Fantasy for Cosmopolitan Girls
Con questa terza novella dedicata agli Assi dei motori, torniamo nell’officina di Reggie e conosciamo meglio quest’uomo, calmo e posato, ma molto autorevole e rispettato. La sua officina è la star del reality “Wrench Wars”, ma alla terza stagione gli ascolti stanno calando ed il network insiste per fargli fare uno spin off. Proprio Wes è colui che deve convincerlo ad accettare la nuova proposta.
Una storia breve, ma molto ben strutturata. L’autrice riesce a creare in poche pagine un nuovo capitolo di questa serie dove, affidando il pov sia a Reggie che a Wes, permette al lettore di mettere gli occhi sulla nascita di una nuova coppia.
Non si parla d’amore, i due protagonisti si conoscono da veramente poco tempo, ma l’alchimia tra loro promette molto bene. Vengono descritti quei primi momenti di una storia in cui tutto viene percepito più acutamente, dove la passione è ai picchi più alti e quando tutto sembra possibile.
Insomma, una lettura scorrevole e coinvolgente che ci riporta nel mondo delle muscle car e nella guerra fredda dei network avidi di soldi e d’ascolti, anche a scapito dei dipendenti.
