Too much chick likes boyS airhead stuff, not enough actual mystery, too murder she wrote without the actual satisfaction of a somewhat well written cozy/murder mystery, and I don't have overly high expectations of cozy mysteries to begin with. I'm glad this boxed set was a freebie. If I had paid for it, I would have been very irritated. In each book, I've found typos, enough to be annoying. Each book tends to blend into the next. The only thing that basically sets them apart is the main character's relationship with her boyfriend and his family. All the stories are pretty similar, so I can't really say they stand out on their own. I've got the boxed set of 1 through 5 and may not read it. I don't want more typos and mysteries that are tepid. They pass the time and that's about it.
My review is based on reading the five out of order. Somehow I started with book 8 and then had to go back in my e-reader to find books 6 & 7, so I kind of knew how they would turn out from books 8 through 10. I enjoyed these books but not as much as the first five. Hopefully the series continues and we find out more about Lan, Maeve, Sabine, Carter, & Jax. The characters are progressing and the mysteries are entertaining. Looking forward to book 11.
I think one of the things I like about this series is that each book continues the timeline of the prior book. Each book is a standalone mystery with a complete story, but we follow along in the lives of the main characters. And each mystery in itself is intriguing. The solution nay appear obvious in the beginning, but something happens to throw a monkey wrench in that thought process. I enjoy these books tremendously.
This series is starting to get a little far-fetched and way away from its original roots a food truck operator and mysteries a little more commonplace. The writing and the characters just seem just seem very bland at this point, and I just couldn't get into this book at all.
each book in the series contains the different murder mystery that food truck owner Maeve and her fiance land try to solve along with the local police department. Each book is an installment that builds off of the last. Absolutely addicted to this series and hope there is more after the Fantastic ending in book 10
