It has been a long time since I have read a great Highlander historical romance. Highland Deception was an absolute treat! This is Ms. Bailey's debut novel, and I can't wait to read her next release. I loved her writing style and enjoyed it was told with a dual POV.

Lachlan and Maggie were so endearing and I really cared about their budding relationship. The storyline drew me right in and held my attention all the way through.

It's an interesting read. I loved the story and the characters. Set in Highlands, the story revolves around Maggie who runs away from home so that she can avoid a disastrous marriage. But on her way to the convent, to safety, she found trouble. Lachlan has a mission. He must protect a boy and expose a traitor. Trust is a luxury he cannot afford. So when Maggie turn up right after they had an encounter with his enemies he decides to keep her close. She might very well be a spy after all.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This was a good story. I enjoyed it a great deal. Maggie is looking for her freedom and runs away from home to avoid being married to a horrible guy. Lachlan is a man trying to save his clan and protect his allies. The romance between the two characters was really fun to read about it. I will definitely be looking for more from this author.

So disappointed this is a debut novel—I wish there were more!

I was in the mood to escape and that is exactly what I did in this romance set in the historical Scottish Highlands. Maggie is running from a brutal life she sees no other escape from. Her plan may not have been well thought out—with her bag of healing balms and a stolen horse her only possessions—but luck is with her when she finds Lachlan…

“She’d probably found the only man in all of Scotland who could find his way into her soul.”

I enjoyed Lori Ann Bailey's "Highland Deception", it was a well written, passionate historical romance. Maggie wants to escape a betrothal to a cruel man and decides the only way to accomplish that is to run away. Lachlan previously had his heart broken by a beautiful woman, they were engaged and he found out she was plotting his death behind his back.
Maggie dresses as a boy and leaves her father's keep. When she stumble upon a battle and sees a man hurt, she doesn't hesitate, she grabs her heal

I was impressed with this debut book by Ms. Bailey. There was a solid plot with a few twists thrown in. The descriptions of landscapes were vivid and brought them alive for me. She did a good job of letting us know what Lachlan and Maggie were thinking and feeling. Their growing attraction despite Lachlan's reservations was believable. I was glad to see that Maggie was not a timid little mouse, but had a bit of a wild streak. Growing up with 3 older brothers allowed her to develop skills that yo ...more

This debut author definitely has the writing style to make it big in the the competitive world of Scottish historical romance. From her authentic details, intriguing storyline, and interesting characters, who have just enough Scottish brogue to make any lass swoon, she has me wanting to know more about each and every character. However, as an avid true romantic at heart, there are some major character issues that leave me very disappointed, which caused me to lower my overall rating. I decided t ...more

I am finding it hard to believe this is a book by a debut author. It was as woven together and solidly written as some of my favorite Highland romance authors. It had everything that made it impossible to put down; treachery, betrayal, suspense, romance and love.
Maggie was a strong female character fleeing from her home in order to escape a disastrous marriage set up by her father (who did not have any redeeming qualities himself). She runs into Lachlan, who is the complete opposite of man she h

I think the universe is telling me Scotland is the place to be. Having just finished Outlander, I needed to curb my new obsession with another Scottish tale and I happened to have Highland Deception awaiting on my Kindle. It's safe to say that fans of the aforementioned book will love this historical romance set in seventeenth-century Scotland.

Lori Ann Bailey wove a wonderfully magical tale in this book. The plot was well thought out and the characters were artfully defined. There were just enough heart pounding moments to make keep you captivated. Lachlan and Maggie are a very entertaining match, each with their own idiosyncrasies to keep you both guessing and laughing. I cannot wait to read more of her books (especially looking forward to Alan's story)!

“Highland Deception” is the debut of author, Lori Ann Bailey, and is the first in her Highland Pride series. As a fan of all things Scotland, I was predisposed to like this book although, while Bailey does a great job with her debut, it was a tale of two cities for me.

The Story- Maggie is set to marry a rapist/murderer/real jerk, so she decides to run away and join a nunnery. On the road, she unwittingly falls in with a group of men from another clan while showcasing her healing skills. Fearing

Even though this is the first one for this author she still will be able to weave magic enough to enthrall you with her tale. Also it takes alot any more for a another to entice me away from my op romances and paranormal of my norm lately which she did with the storyline and cover. Political unrest was even or more so costly in those times. I like also reading a author's perception of their thoughts on how a woman gets away with avoiding horrible and the like. In this one Maggie is hiding from a ...more

Fast-paced Scottish historical romance with plenty of action, in all manners of speaking.

Maggie is our spunky heroine, desperate for freedom from her father's rule and her betrothal to a man who has promised her a marriage that would be nothing short of torture. Her escape attempt leads her to our hero, Lachlan, a fiercely loyal leader who has been burned by love before and swears he'll never fall for a woman again. They hold tight to each of their own secrets, trying to protect themselves and

I enjoyed Highland Deception and I am looking forward to more books in the series. Our heroine Maggie was pretty wonderful and it was her character that drew me into the story. She was witty, beautiful, tenacious and easy to fall in love with. Which was what our hero did despite his misgivings and the hurt and betrayal he had suffered in the past because of a woman. The attraction between Maggie and Lachlan developed nicely, it was believable, very sweet yet sensual. The overall plot was good, r ...more

Maggie is escaping her home she doesn't want to marry the abusive guy chosen for her.
Lachlan is going through to get home when he finds Maggie on the side of the road.
He takes her in and tries to figure out where she is from. She won't tell him anything. She is hoping that by not telling him who she is she is keeping him safe.
I thought this story was ok I had a hard time following it. It is not a genre I usually read. I thought I would try something different.
