The Last Resort by R.S. Kovach is a 2017 Pocket Star publication.

At first glance, Ali Barros has it all. She has a high-powered career, is successful, smart and confident- until for some reason, after a horse riding accident embarrasses her, leaving her with a broken wrist, she suddenly finds her confidence shaken to the point where she’s unable to focus on her job. Finally, her bosses insist she take a sabbatical, or else, which is how she ended up at the Pebble Creek Lodge, hoping the resort

I have mixed feelings about this book. That usually doesn’t happen very often. I think it’s more of a love-hate relationship with the female character, Ali.

I feel that the author wanted to depict her as a strong female executive. And in many ways she was that. But she was also very self-centered, making a freak accident a big deal, in my opinion. She was also very clueless in a lot of areas and that was very frustrating to me.

Hank, I liked. He’s strong and not without his own demons to

The Last Resort chronicles the story of workaholic, Ali Barros. Ali has it all, a high-paying job, respect from her coworkers, a challenging career...

But wait? Is that all there is to life?

Well, Ali is about to find out after a horseback riding accident lands her in the hospital. The accident not only breaks her arm, her confidence is also shattered. She's sent to the exclusive Pebble Creek Lodge to get her business mojo back.

Enter hot, mysterious, did I say hot? ranch hand, Hank Mathis. Ali can

The Last Resort was an unexpected read for me, that I’m glad I picked up!

Ali Barros has it all, at least she think she does. She’s a high powered exec, she has a family that supports her, everything is going great, until a riding accident puts her life into a downward spiral and she’s sent to a resort to get her life back on track. She’s resistant to treatment at first, but with the help of some other “patients” and a mysterious and sexy ranch hand Ali sta

The Last Resort by R.S. Kovach is a solid entry into the contemporary romance genre. It's lots of fun, with handsome men who are studs at multiple undertakings (think cowboys and pilots!) but includes both backstory and character arcs that engage in both action and more intellectually-based development. The protagonist, Ali, is an admirable woman who, like many of us, gets so caught up in her high-powered day-to-day life that she is unaware of her potential fallibility. When she develops what sh ...more

I read The Last Resort over two airplane rides. It's a light, quick read that draws you in from the beginning and keeps the momentum going from the first page.

Ali is a textbook workaholic. She has no time for anything but work and riding horses. On a trip home for a family function, she takes out an unfamiliar horse and gets in an accident. She ends up with both substantial physical injuries and PTSD. People at work begin noticing that she's not in a good head space and send her on a work-mandat

Ever since I first came across R.S Kovach’s works a few years ago, she has been one of my favorite up-and-coming writers. So I was thrilled when I heard she had won the contest to have this book published. I don’t often read romance but I knew I’d be reading this one.

The novel is a slow burn love story between Ali Barros, a workaholic perfectionist, and Hank Mathis, an easygoing ranch hand with a lot more about him than is immediately apparent. The meet at a health spa Ali is sent to by her comp

The idea for Last Resort was very fresh and interesting. I can see why Ms. Kovach won the award with her writing. Her descriptions and narrative are spot on. I could see the settings in every scene very well. The cast of secondary characters were quirky and entertaining, another plus for the book.

However, I could not warm up to Allie, or sympathize with her. Her "ailment" didn't seem to fit the reason for her stay in Colorado. There were hints at pain killer overuse, but they needed to be illust

I thoroughly enjoyed this romance, not able to put it down until the last sentence. There are so many fantastic descriptions of the Colorado Springs setting, making me nostalgic for the times I have visited. Hank is most definitely a swoon worthy leading man, bringing a sensitivity as well as a masculine charm. Ali's journey to discover what she can't live without kept me on my toes! The Last Resort is a fantastic read!

Fantastic read!
Ali - a high-achieving workaholic who's forced to face her perfectionistic issues after an accident - is both a likable and flawed character. And then there's cowboy Hank, who's impossible not to love, what with his abs of steel and handsome smile. Kovach does a great job creating chemistry between Ali & Hank - you'll find yourself waiting just as breathlessly for their next encounter as main character Ali does.

Besides the wonderful romantic element to this novel, Kovach also

The Last Resort written by R.S. Kovach is a light hearted romance. Little did I realize it does have some aspects of a military romance which you come across towards the end. As a first time reader of R.S. Kovach’s, I felt it was a good book to be read near a fire on a snowy day. Almost like a Hallmark movie.

R.S. Kovach is one of my favorite authors. She always brings such solid writing and delight to her stories. This one is a contemporary romance with a workaholic and a cowboy. And as usual, Kovach brings everything to the table you'd expect!

Sometimes when a person is injured, not all the problems are just physical. In THE LAST RESORT, separate incidents have changed the current lives of two people, and they think everything is being done to get their lives hopefully back in order. But often it takes some deep soul-searching before an individual can truly be happy, especially if a fear must be conquered first. There is lots of emotion in the story, and I never knew if the two main characters would react as I thought best, or if they ...more

Genre:  Romance,

As a horse lover and rider this appealed to me so I was eager to read it. Sounded like it was a romance with that extra spark that I like.
Sadly I didn't like it and finally abandoned at the halfway mark.

I didn't like Ali. Right from the start she comes over a a bit arrogant, and the accident could have happened anyway, but maybe if she'd been more aware. Still, I've broken bones through riding accidents, it happe

I liked this book, but yet while I liked it... I'm left kind of meh about some things because there seem to be some small holes. Being someone who was raised in a similar environment to our female character here, I've been where she was. How she got hurt. However, if she's that experienced, I don't understand her reaction. being thrown would have been common in training, especially being that experienced. I know she got really hurt, I'm just su

The Last Resort by R.S. Kovach is a nice sweet romance. We meet Ali Barros, a high powered executive, who is a workaholic and very successful at her job. She is also a horsewoman that wins jumping events. She feels forced to travel home to her parent’s house for a party while there, Ali decides to go horseback riding and has a mishap, breaking her wrist. Since Ali has always been sure of herself in anything she does, the fall from the horse has an effect on her confidence, as well as her work. ...more

I didn’t know anything about this author when I got this book which can be a good thing. Learning about and finding new authors to read is always a risky proposition. The books can either be wonderful or horrid. Fortunately, this book is pretty good.

ARC provided by Netgalley, thank you.

I will have to revisit this book because I just did not seem to be in the mood to read it at the time.... Storyline is promising, but like I said, sometimes when you are not in the right mindset its hard to enjoy.

R.S. does it again !
This story is delighful, page- turning, and well written. We all have our set backs and personal struggles as human beings, and this author does a splendid job in delivering how it is so with the protagonist, and the sexy male lead.
Highly recommend!

Loved it!!

It's one of the amazing novels that have to be read over and over again because of Hank and Ali's chemistry and love. Rita captures the characters vulnerability, humor and imperfections so well. Five stars!

THE LAST RESORT by RS Kovach was a really good read, and had potential to be a really great book with just a few adjustments made to the story.

Ali is a career driven women, who works countless hours a day (staying after everyone else has left for the day) and has no time for fun, but all that changes when she heads home for her parents anniversary party.  Ali and her ex high school boyfriend (who is secretly hoping that there is still a chance for them to have a new relationship) head to the sta

Thank you to NetGalley for granting my request for an ARC of this book. This is my honest review:

I think this book has a lot of potential to be a great story but I just found myself disappointed and really frustrated with it. I felt like there were too many holes or gaps in the story for it to feel like a fully developed storyline.

1) While the book starts out great, it sort of peters out when we get to the part where Ali has to go to the Pebble Creek Lodge. While we are introduced to other "pati

R.S. Kovach is slightly obsessed with Pachelbel’s Canon, but not so much with splitting infinitives. An art historian by training and a senior financial administrator by trade, she has worked at universities across three continents. Her native language of Hungarian has been only slightly more useful than her other obscure skill of quoting THE PRINCESS BRIDE, but being a Wattpad Featured author wit ...more
