The Inner Studio unveils a place of learning inside each of us where we can learn lessons about ourselves that are inseperable from what we design and build. Filled with anecdotes, examples and exercises, The Inner Studio guides readers into deeper levels of our imagination and decision making, focusing squareley on the experience of the designer during the creative act of design. How do designers convert their subjective and often unconscious experience of the world into design? What are the creative consequencesof what we may call, designing from within?" Welcome to the The Inner Studio.
An essential handbook (I avoid using the term self-help for fear of the connotations associated with the genre) for designers of all disciplines. This is That helping hand when you need The brain-break.
This book was written by one of my profs at school. It's a useful, insightful handbook that is meant to aid designers in the creative process. I am constantly questioning whether or not I should be in the design field and am often crippled with anxiety, self-doubt and uncertainty during a project. This book helps when you need to be inspired and you need some comforting thoughts to keep you moving forward through the dark times of a creative surge.
Aside from finding sooo many grammatical errors, I really enjoyed the book because it was full of inspiration and insight. I took pictures of some of the pages that had exercises for stimulating creativity and searching from within. I like that he ended the book with some history of Toronto and his feedback on how the city was designed. Overall a great read.
