Leslie Langtry writes another successful book in her fourth Merry Wrath Murder Mystery, Movie Night Murder. Merry is horrified to learn that girl scout sleepovers don't actually involve any sleep, so she wakes up with bright pink bangs and a pink mama cat. Her lifelong best friend and joint troop leader, Kelly, is really angry with Merry. But how was Merry to have known in the previous book, Marshmallow S'more Murder, that the woman who volunteered to join them as a chaperone in Washington, D.C. ...more

Merry and her friends are back for more fun in Iowa. After the last novel's girl scout trip to Washington, DC there was a major dangling plot thread. This book resolves that.
The girls, their mothers, Merry and her BFF, Kelly are having a movie night lock in at the local church. A dead body turns up, something that happens frequently around ex-CIA field agent Merry.

I guessed wrong on the murderer. These books are just downright fun. I can't wait to see what happens in the next novel.

Merry Wrath is a former spy with the CIA who is now leading a Girl Scout Troop in Iowa. Only during a lock-in night at the Church, a woman's body is found. Then it is stolen. With ex boyfriend CIA agent and current boyfriend, the Sheriff, she tries to find out what is going on.

I really enjoyed this book. The snarky comments, the attitude of Merry. The hijinks with cats. That said, the mystery itself did not hold my interest, mainly because it didn't make much sense or seem believable to me. I

There's nothing better than spending your entire night with 10 girl scouts,10 mothers, 4 cats, a baby and a bitchy scout leader not to mention the dead lady in the nursery. Merry Wrath would rather spit watermelon seeds. Then to make matters worse, the new medical examiner is a gorgeous Korean woman. Merry's eyes go an ugly shade of green when Dr. Body is around. As Merry, Rex and Riley true to find out why "Evelyn Trout was murdered and by whom the story just doesn't get any better. Merry's ...more

Lately I just haven't felt like reading anything. I gaze disconsolately at all the books on my shelves and wander the stacks at the library but nothing catches my attention. I really want to be working in the yard or going hiking or something. But it's too cold. So tonight I sat down with a cup of tea and the resolve to read or else...
This book was pretty good choice. Totally unrealistic in every way, mildly amusing and not actually requiring much mental focus, it got me through the evening and

Merry is forced to do an overnight "lock-in" to meet the girl scouts' parents and a dead body shows up and turns out to be the "fake" parent from last book.

What I enjoyed:
* Madcap adventures with Merry and gang
* The girl scouts are awesome, they totally are in training to be spies when they grow up
* The ending (view spoiler)

What could have been better:
* still seems like a love triangle - if Riley wants to flirt, it shouldn't bother Merry

I'd eat pizza too.

As villians once again descend on a small, non descript mid west town and cause havoc. Merry the local ex CIA agent has her hands full with kittens, girl scouts, a new coroner, her ex boyfriend/handler, her best friend and new mother all while trying to stop the body count from rising.

If you've read my reviews of the previous three Merry Wrath Mysteries, you know I LOVE this series. A small part is because I was a Girl Scout volunteer for many years. The largest part is the humor. How does Merry get into so many scrapes? Although a minor character, her dad is such a great guy. The girls in the troop are smart beyond their years. And Merry's sidekick (aka Troop Leader) Kelly has her own problems--a new baby and a husband who doesn't understand where diapers go. (I've had a ...more

Leslie Langtry is back with another Merry Wrath story that will have you chuckling throughout the book. If you recall the last book and the girl scout troop's trip to Washington DC, Merry and the troop attracted a woman named Evelyn Trout who nobody knew and wasn't anyone's mother. Since the "real" troop leader, a very pregnant Kelly, was left behind in Who's There, Iowa, Evelyn's unknown connection wasn't discovered until they reached home. Merry may have been a terrific CIA agent, but her ...more

A Home Run! This book in the Merry Wrath Series is a Must Read!

I'm just a Girl Scout Troup leader to a bunch of extremely precocious girls in hiding! Merry constantly opines. More likely her little scouts are Mini-agents in training! Or so they want to be. Yes, Merry Wrath is at it again. Or trouble has found her again. This is a great, very funny romp through her quiet little town complete with trying to find domestic terrorists and foil their plot to a girl scout troup movie night lock-in and

Merry Wrath has returned to Who's There, Iowa after she was outed as a CIA spy. She has become a Girl Scout leader. Merry really has no idea what to do with the girls and always ends up in some kind of jam. The girls prove to be very adaptable and are getting good at the spy game. They are not above getting into mischief which Merry usually has to try to explain and clean up. They are at a lock in at the Church. Merry figures what can go wrong in a Church. It turns out that a lot can and does go ...more

This is Book 4 in the Merry Wrath Mysteries and it is just as funny as all the others. I cannot recommend these books more highly! Merry Wrath is an ex-CIA agent who was outed by the Vice President of the United States. She changes her name, moves back to her hometown and becomes a Girl Scout Leader. In this book, she and her childhood best friend hold a Mommy and Me lock-in at the local church. Her friend brings along her baby and Merry, who doesn't have kids, brings her cat and two kittens (I ...more

And we're back in Iowa! Thank goodness because after book three which 1) took place in DC and 2) did not involve Kelly and Rex much, I had all but given up on the series. However, my love for books one and two compelled me to read the plot of book four when it was released which, of course, hooked me into wanting to read it and I WAS NOT disappointed! All the things I loved about the first books were alive and well again: small town in Iowa, complications between Rex and Riley (could we have ...more

Movie Night Murder sees Merry Wrath and her Girl Scout troop settling into a local church for a lock-in with Harry Potter movies, arts and crafts and a dead body.

This novel was the perfect addition to this series. The story was tightly written, with several genuine laugh out loud moments. Read it in a couple of days of commuting and loved every bit of it.

How can one exCIA agent keep having so much trouble.

Merry thought the worst thing about a lock in was having 12 eight year olds and their mothers to entertain. She was so wrong. She thought having her ex back in town was the worst thing but she was wrong again. Very good story with lots of plot changes with dry cute dialog. I'm so ready for the next adventure.

Movie Night Murder is a super fun read! Merry is an ex-CIA agent who has crime following her into her small town retirement. When dead bodies are showing up at her Girl Scout meeting, and her old boss is showing up at her house, Merry doesn't have any choice but to help solve the case. I highly recommend to those who like Cozy Mysteries with a touch of humor.

Two things I know for certain when I read a book by Leslie Langtry: 1) I'm going to laugh - a lot! 2) I will read a well written and entertaining story. I enjoy this series by Ms. Langtry and look forward to the few hours I get to spend with these characters.

I received a copy of this manuscript from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Great mystery! Love the way this author writes. It's hilarious yet serious mystery business which makes it flow well & makes it a fun, exciting read! The girls & the cat/kittens are smart & have their own funny moments. Can't wait to read what's next for Merry & Rex....and discover more about Riley.

OK, I'm Hooked!

I just have to admit it. I'm a Merry Wrath junkie. I don't know how I'm going to wait for the next book. I hope it comes soon or I may have to act like Merry and plot someone's demise with a spork.
