Sissy's Romance Book Review
'Wicked Rivals' by Lauren Smith is book four in "The League of Rogues" series. This is the story of Ashton Lennox and Rosalind Melbourne. I have read most of the books in this series but I easily felt this was a standalone book.
Rosalind is a widower who has taken on running her late husband's business..and doing a great job at it. Ashton is a business rival and is taken with Rosalind..but he is tired of her taking some of his business away. Also he thinks a old enemy is working with her or

5 - "I own all but name." Stars!

Lauren Smith returns to The League of Rogues with another absolutely outstanding addition to the series. Book four; Wicked Rivals gives us Lord Ashton Lennox’s story, and once again it was a thrill-a-minute adventure.

I absolutely love this series, every book offers up a different couple’s story, whilst still expanding and developing on the secondary longer running plot-line involving Hugo Waverly and his obsession with getting rid of the League members

I really loved writing this book because I got to explore Ashton's character. Up till now he's been a quiet, calm presence in the league of rogues, now an I get to delve into his backstory, and his family history and show how tender hearted and strong souled he was. He is a man who feels deeply, still waters run deep. And I loved exposing his love for Rosalind and how she is much the same as him in her heart. Their love story was wonderful and moving and impossibly sweet. I enjoyed every minute ...more

Why is it that the bad guy keeps getting over on the entire League of Rogues? After this book I'm inclined to call them the League of Idiots? Lets see, we have a Duke, a Viscount, a Marquess, and three other rich influential men. Yet one man, Sir Hugo, is consistently ahead of them in all things.

He has spies in their homes, and in

This is the fourth book in Lauren Smith’s wonderfully entertaining League of Rogues series. Three of the rogues have succumbed to the parson’s noose and now the same fate awaits Ashton. Meanwhile their adversary, Hugo Waverly, continues to plot his revenge against the League members.

Ashton Lennox has always put his family first and has done everything to care for and protect them. When his father died in scandalous circumstances, leaving the family socially and financially ruined, young Ashton

Oh my rogues! This series is getting better by each book. I have been waiting for this for a while now to see how the rivals got along together...or not. As the oldest and most cool-headed rogue of the League, Ashton, Lord Lennox, keeps the group from being completely crazy or completely reckless, at least most of the time. Rosalind, Lady Melbourne has been his business rival and Ashton has had enough so he ends up making some deals and transactions and ends up owning Rosalind in a certain ...more

I absolutely adore Lauren Smith's work! She has such an amazing power with her words. I had a ridiculously good time reading this story. The entire premise of this story was so much fun. From one page to another you have no clue whether the MCs are gonna kiss or back-slap each other. FUN, I TELL YA! And what is best about Wicked Rivals, is that the progression from enemies (and I mean ENEMIES lol) to lovers (and I mean SPITFIRE lovers lol) happened slowly. It almost happens before your eyes and ...more

This is book four in Lauren Smith's League Of Rogues series. Each book has been great, so I highly recommend the entire series.

Oh my -- I absolutely LOVED Ashton. He is the rogue who was always in control of himself and whatever situation he found himself in. Every move is calculated, evaluated, planned and then executed with precision. So, when a little Scots widow (Rosalind Melbourne) starts competing (and winning) with him in various

Lauren Smith has done it again! A real page turner!

Lauren Smith's series, The League of Rogues, is so much fun to read! I just love her books and her style of writing. Her 4th story, Wicked Rivals, is a must to read if you love historical romances filled with passion and intrigue! It's a story of betrayal, forgiveness and trust. Previously, I really enjoyed Godric, Lucien and Cedric in their own stories, and this time the author really pulled me into Ashton and Rosalind's story. It was fun and

This was a great addition to The League of Rogues series, but fear not if you haven't read any of them yet because Ashton and Rosalind's story can be read as a standalone. Rosalind is a strong female character which is a rarity in historical romance stories. I guess that is why I enjoy Lauren Smith's books so much, she has a way of making her men strong and her women even stronger.

Lady Society is issuing a challenge to Lord Lennox. She can’t help but think he is afraid of a certain lady who is in direct competition with him.
You cannot hide forever behind your fleet of ships, nor can you call upon your friends for support. The League of Rogues are fast succumbing to the charms of Eros and taking wives. Perhaps they know something you choose to remain ignorant of?

I went back and fourth in my head weather to give Wicked Rivals 3 stars or 4 star. But I loved the chemistry between Ashton Lennox and Rosalind Melbourne. They made great business rivals that turned into a great love. They had the sheets sizzling. The way they realize they are falling in love instead of trying to become business partners was well done. There banter with each other was believable . Great characters and storyline. Well Done!!

It takes a lot of creativity and skill to make a reader believe that two characters who are enemies can transition to love. Especially two smart, strong, independent characters who are leery of trusting others. But Lauren Smith does just that in Wicked Rivals, the latest in her League of Rogues series. Distrust is no match for desire, and wondering if they’ll kiss or throttle each other makes seeing their romance develop all the more delicious.

I'm really mad at this. The Rosalind who could hold her own and even best Ashton in the previous books was replaced by a shrill woman who just needs the right man to make her do what's good for her to be happy. WTF?! This entire book was just Ashton forcing her to do things against her will and the story justifies it because she secretly likes it and is attracted to him against her will. I'm sorry, but that's cheesy Harlequin romance levels of stupid.

First, Ashton buys up all of Rosalind's debt

I was so glad to see Ashton was getting his own story and was not disappointed. Rosalind and Ashton are perfect for each other even though they don't realize it. Like the other books, I never knew what was going to happen and I couldn't wait to see what would happen between them and with Waverly. I loved how many people were trying to put them together and at first, it was just about saving their own businesses, but it turned into more. I was

I kept picking up and putting this book down. I was so angry at the "Hero" the first few times I tried to read it that I wouldn't pick it back up. The way he treated Rosalind by talking to the bankers to refuse to extend her credit and kept saying he "owned" her was maddening to me. I really didn't like him until the book was almost finished. I did however think the H&H had excellent chemistry together and I like the closeness of the other characters from past books.

I am addicted to this series...these Rogues...and their adventures. I always recommend them!

Ashton Lennox always prided himself for his astute business practices. His skills were finely tuned and honed -- and he always got his deal. That is until Lady Rosalind Melbourne came upon the scene. Her savvy business acumen sparked more than his interest.

Could Ashton finally have met the one woman that could inspire him to the one thing he has avoided at all costs...marriage??

Wonderfully written.

I was definitely intrigued by the glimpse of Ash and Lady Melbourne in the previous book and I was really looking forward to Wicked Rivals.

During the time period when these stories take place, a woman in a position of power and running a successful business occurs on rare occasion but is still fairly unheard of so the widow Lady Rosalind Melbourne is a bit of an enigma. The cocky and arrogant Ashton cannot believe this woman has the audacity to try to best him in the business world, and

Lauren Smith continues her series set in Georgian England "The League of Rogues". This battle of wits between two strong personalities was a very entertaining read, and a great ride of suspense. She has purchased companies by underbidding him, infuriating him in the process. Not one to accept defeat, Lord Lennox intends to ...more

I received this book for an honest review so here is some honesty. I skipped a part of the book maybe 5-10% of it. It was in the begging though and I didn't have the patience to read the part where the characters are introduced and the good parts of the story have yet to happen. It didn't seem like I had missed anything vital so I went on with the story. I wasn't able to get into the story and get comfortable with the characters until I reached the middle of the book. I have read all of Lauren's books and I have to say this is my favorite one so far in the "A League of Rogues" Series. I really loved Ashton Lennox. All though he is a confidant, a Alpha male who is gorgeous and has a deep abiding love for his fellow Rogues and will do anything to keep them safe. He will even seize all the holdings and companies of an innocent woman who is allowing the Leagues mortal enemy to invest in her businesses.

Can I say how much I look forward to a new book by Lauren Smith? Yes? Cool. I have a soft spot for this series. It’s the one that got me into reading historical. I was very excited to read Ashton’s book.

I want to get this out of the way. I love Ashton in the previous books. He seemed like he had his head on straight. The beginning of this book, though? Good lord did I want to throttle him because of what he did to Rosalind! BUT, he did come back and redeem himself in my eyes very quickly, which

Rosalind Melbourne caught my attention at the end of the previous League book. It's nice to break up the story lines and have a widow instead of an innocent young lady for a heroine. Lauren has done a good job creating likeable heroines in this series - no simpering misses here - but I think it lends realism to the series by having at least one young lady who doesn't come to the relationship as an untouched virgin. Rosaline was intelligent, head strong, and despite an abusive past she has a ...more

4.5 stars for "Wicked Rivals" by Lauren Smith. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Smith, but it certainly won't be my last. I loved the sexual tension, chemistry and business rivalry between Ashton and Rosalind. These two are certainly HOT together!

A good enemies to lovers romance is hard to find, Smith nailed it with the fourth League of Rogues book.

Being a step ahead in his business dealings, kept him from falling in absolute ruin. When he starts to lose out on shipping ventures to a widow, Rosalind, Lady Melbourne, he has to find a way to control the situation.

I detest Ashton, he is the lowest, slimiest, most foul creature to ever emerge. He is a ruthless businessman, yet when someone else (Rosalind) comes alone and uses those same tactics (under bidding the opponent) he has a tantrum like a petulant child. So he decides he will corner Rosalind at the theatre and talk sense into her. When that fails he tries to seduce her. When that fails, as Ashton becomes the one seduced, he

This is a wonderful book for people who enjoy period books. The characters are well defined in this fun and refreshing book. It's story line is refreshing in that the female character is a strong business woman rather than just a normal woman of the era who's only sight is set upon finding the right man to marry and take care of her. She and Ashton are a perfect match, in all ways that matter in this story.
