The author of Victorian Style now presents a book that captures English country style in all its glorious excess--the softly muted colors and the profusion of furniture, wallpaper, paintings, bibelots, and bric-a-brac that create a wonderfully comfortable and uniquely personal ambience. 65 color photos.
Surprisingly, it's the sparse text in the introduction that actually makes this book on English cottages. The photos, while interesting, are all detailed close-ups of textiles, door hardware, etc. - the little things one might not instantly notice. But without the big picture (literally) there is no context. "Cottage" would have benefitted from a larger view of the rooms accompanying the detailed photos. Otherwise, it's almost like looking at puzzle pieces that haven't yet been put together.
