With the U.S. Army in pursuit, the Cheyenne escape their southwestern reservation and journey northward across the Great Plains in search of the freedom of the Powder River
Mr. Blevins blends historical fact with fictional characters to make an enjoyable learning experience about the early Cheyenne Indians. This was a very interesting read about the suffering of the Cheyenne Indians forced removal from their homeland onto a reservation 1500 miles south. They were suffering on the res and did not receive the promised food and other items of the treaty. This was typical of the White ,man's treatment of indians after being placed on the reservations. The promised rations were seldom supplied as the treaty promised. This tribe of Cheyenne decided to leave the reservation and trek north to their homeland. The story covered many of their hardships. It is hard to believe that one race of humans could be so cruel to another just because of a different way of living. It was a a very informative and enjoyable read, I do recommend it.
