The Nature of the Psyche: Its Human Expression

Rate this book
Seth, speaking exclusively through Jane Roberts, reveals a startling new concept of self, answering questions about the secret language of love, human sexuality, the real origins and incredible powers of dreams, and how we choose our physical death — sometimes years in advance.

For the first time, Seth

•  Why love is the basic language from which all others spring
•  The bisexual nature of humanity and its biological and spiritual importance
•  The true basis of homosexuality and lesbianism — along with their private and social effects
•  The benefits of recalling our dreams and consciously participating in them
•  How dreams can prevent chronic illnesses by providing important therapeutic information
•  Simple exercises you can do to expand your awareness of the deeper portions of your psyche and stretch your abilities to their fullest potential.

“The psyche is a gestalt of aware energy in which your own identity resides, inviolate, yet ever-changing as you fulfill your potentials. You are your psyche’s living expression, its human manifestation. Yet you allow yourselves often to become blind to brilliant aspects of your own existence.”   —  Jane Roberts, Speaking for Seth

The book was worth buying for the final chapter alone - if you enjoy Seth, then this is a must read.

Instead of my usual Post-it bookmark, for this book I use the 20 year old receipt from the Palo Alto bookstore where I purchased it. I find myself reflecting on those days and who I was, and what I wanted.

In a way I'm in two times at once, which is one of the points of this book. It is an attempt to jar your thoughts of reality.

This is a book I pick up every few years, and sometimes read a paragraph, sometimes a chapter. Often I have no idea what Seth is saying, but I love how he makes me think about the miracle of existence.

This was a nice compliment to "Seth Speaks" and "The Seth Material," but it wasn't my favorite Seth book. "The Nature of Personal Reality" and "Seth Speaks" are both more interesting in my opinion, but "The Nature of the Psyche" is a much shorter read and still very very good, giving those gems here and there you expect and get used to from Seth/Jane. I listened to both Seth Speaks and the NOPR on Audible through the Amazon app on my phone and both were done phenomenally by all involved. I would recommend "Seth Speaks" before anything else. Now onto my 6th or 7th Seth book, Seth has yet to disappoint. Still Five Stars.

Compelling and vivid.

I read half months ago and finished it today. Its contents had me lost in it's integration. This 1970s author made me a bit lost in the beginning but picked up the pace once I read the second half. I grew enticed by the literary work he produced. I'd recommend this to people who like metaphysics and existentialism. I gave it a five stars as everything it said pertaining to the second half I read was quite accurate in terms of deep thought. I think the psyche is pretty darned close to the soul. And as I took notes I realized my Kindle gave me a window to a whimsical book.

Seth (the entity channeled by Jane Roberts) has followed me around for many years. I'd be drawn to these books, get a lot out of them, then drop them and move on to other focuses. (I'd "changed the channel," so to speak.)

But I kept coming back. His basic teaching is that we create our own reality through our thoughts and beliefs. At times, I could absolutely see myself doing that. At other times, especially when I heard about someone who experienced a horrible tragedy, I'd think, "No way did that person create that." But there's so much of interest, and resonance, in the Seth books that, again, I keep going back to them.

Here are a couple of the many Seth statements that have kept me coming back:

"Do not place the words of gurus, ministers, priests, scientists, psychologists, friends – or my words – higher than the feelings of your own being. You can learn much from others, but the deepest knowledge must come from within yourself. Your own consciousness is embarked upon a reality that basically can be experienced by no other, that is unique and untranslatable, with its own meaning, following its own path of becoming."

"When you do not know what to do, relax and tell yourself that other portions of yourself do know; they will take over. Give yourself some rest."

Fun Fact: Jane Roberts has the same birthday as Don Rickles.

The Seth series is long and complicated. In conversations supposed "channeled" through Jane Roberts, the Seth personality/entity reveals his own take on metaphysical reality. The material really does twist your brain and forces it to consider new ways of looking at the world. Be prepared to throw away all you pre-existing assumptions about life and the universe. I'll tell you now, that the information will take time to absorb and process and that several readings might be in order. But over time, the books seemed to have much validity. My advice is to dive in and glean what you can at any level.

This cover still makes my heart tumble. The book is on my list to reread, but I remember it being elegant and thought provoking. My copy is excessively underlined and bookmarked and I can't wait to re-discover the tale Jane and Seth weave.
