If you've never been to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, this is a wonderful book to read. It would be an ideal book to take while visiting the museum. If you have been to the museum, it's a wonderful remembrance of your trip. I was there the day it opened, September 24, 2016. It was a day and an experience I will never forget.

Not really a guidebook or exhibition catalog. Cursory treatment of exhibits and highlights. References way too many objects as examples of what it is saying about theme of gallery under discussion without supplying pictures of the objects referenced. One gets feeling like they are missing the point. Would be better with more or less detail. Just confusing as it is now.

Good review of African American history and culture- I for sure want to visit this museum when we visit Washington D.C. - slavery, Civil War, WWI and WWII, Korea and Vietnam plus current military conflicts along with NASA and of course music !

Unique, interesting, informative and fascinating guide on this historical museum. I would like to visit this national museum one day. It's important that we learn from our history to create a better future for all generations.

If you can't get to DC for an actual visit this is a very good preview. It give you a history of the journey to build the museum as well as a highlight of some of the exhibits.
