3.5 stars. Good overall. The heroine was a bit too naive IMO but it didn't ruin the book

Summary
Professor Bria Lane, is on a mission to prove that bear shifters exist and that she thinks that it can cure cancer. She is determined to get solid proof of the existence of shape shifters under the guise of a reasonable research sabbatical. She wants to prove to her parents that she can do this. She has returned to Deep Creek, a place that gives her mixed feelings. Its the place where she first saw a bear shift and

Meh. I was excited to read this as I've recently developed a thing for bear shifters and Adrienne is an author I've seen around but hadn't read before. Sadly, the book didn't excite me. It took me several weeks to read as it had trouble keeping my interest and I had no trouble putting it down for days at a time. Although events happen in a relatively short time span, the story drags and drags and drags. We're told ad nauseam about how important Bria's research is to her, how vital it is to her c ...more

Derek was hot. A hot park ranger. A tall, fit, tanned, long-haired, bearded, blue-eyed park ranger…perfect for Bria.
I have to say that in some sections of the book, the author just went on…and on…and on, about bears – more than the hot park ranger (I guess that’s my job here. lol). I think that I – and other readers – understood that Bria was a passionate ursinologist. Her rambling internal dialogue about bears was monotonous though, and appeared to be page-filler to me. At one point during my

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

This felt a little bit like paint by numbers shifter story. Bria, a sassy, intelligent university professor, meets Derek, a bear shifter park ranger, who smells her and knows she’s his mate.

I struggled to get into the story for the first few chapters and I found myself playing shifter bingo trying to remember which famous series first introduced each of the ideas recycled in this one. The writing felt really choppy at the outs

Books one and two of the shifter war followed the beginning of two different relationships; both men are bear shifters in Deep Creek! I liked that you could easily read each as a stand alone and still get the full story even though they are much more enjoyable if read together! Both books in the series are the perfect romances with the perfect amount of sexy times!! There are only a handful of sex scenes through both books but they are some seriously enjoyable scenes!!

Book one does need a trigge

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

I think I would have benefited from reading book 1, but this book did an excellent job of setting the story for Bria and Derek.

Bria is on sabbatical from the university where she is determined to earn tenure. However, she's wary of men due to being betrayed by her ex boyfriend who also happens to be a professor at the same university. His determination to obtain tenure led him to steal her research and present it as his own

This is the second book in the Shifter Wars series by Kerry Adrienne.

I picked this up because a bear shifter just seemed so interesting. Of course, I am reading this series out of order. Per usual for me.

This book was like watching a train wreck waiting to happen. Bria wanted so much to see a shifter bear in Deep Creek that she lied on her grant application to get the funding to do it. Under the guise of watching the bears and their watering rituals, she went on the search for these elu

This book was just okay for me, although I admit it was far better than some of the other shifter books that I have read. Unlike those books, this author didn't paint a picture of everyone knowing and being okay with shifters existing. There was a general unknown about shifters and even Bria had doubts about shifters even acted in their human forms.

Some of the story lines seemed drawn out, while the ending felt incredibly rushed. Despite all her previous questions about shifters, Bria simply ac

Bria is a professor who is doing research on bear shifters. Oh, no one knows exactly what she’s researching as she’s lied to the university for this grant. They believe she’s studying the hydration habits of bears coming out of hibernation. Ah, no. As a child, Bria saw a man and his young son walk behind a boulder near a waterfall… and emerge on the other side as a bear with his cub. She’s never forgotten and this could be the discovery that gets her the academic acc

Clearly I spend too much time around academics, because I spent most of the first chapter flinching at the heroine's behavior: she identifies herself as an "ursinologist" (really? she doesn't go with "wildlife biologist"? really?) and sets up camp in a remote state forest without checking whether camping permits are required (she defensively says that the information she saw on the Internet didn't indicate she needed a permit!), checking in with the park rangers, or even researching what animals ...more

I enjoyed reading with book. It seems to pick up shortly after the first book ends with Derek. Derek is out on his own time in the Deep Creek Forest. He runs into Bria where she is camping without a permit in a location that people aren't supposed to camp. They get to talking and they feel an instant connection. It takes a short time for Bria to tell Derek the real reason why she is conducting research there this summer, to find and prove that shifters are real. It takes Derek just a short while ...more

So this is the second book of this series and I have to say I loved Derek and Bria. Derek is this macho bear shifter and it was nice to see what Bria could do to him because she was his mate. There is all kinds of stuff that is going on in this book. There is still a war brewing since Griff killed Evers. So everyone is on high alert. So when Bria strolls in and wants to know about bear shifters, lets just say that adds more problems to the mi

Pursuing the Bear

Pursuing the Bear by Kerry Adrienne is war of the worlds in shifter form. She has a way of enticing her reader into reading without stopping because they can't put the book down. Derek and Bria have alot of chemistry between them but alit if secrets as well. This is the second book in the shifter wars series and it was nice to see Griff, Amy , Elijah again. As Derek and Bria come closer to their HEA ending they learn much about each other and themselves. Love can conquer and mak

Bria is a bear specialist and plans on spending her summer researching bears in Deep Creek, but not just any kind of bears, she is looking for human shifting bears. Derek is a shifting bear and a park ranger to boot. Add in some scruff and a man bun and Bria stumbles upon her subject without even knowing it and feels an instant connection. With a war with the lions looming, Bria becomes collateral on both sides. Can Derek protect her and his clan, can he convince Bria to be his mate and not repo ...more

Not having read the first book in the series was not a detriment to the overall pull of this story. It was intense and intriguing, yet left me s bit on edge about Bria and her relationship with her parents. That aspect of the story left me feeling lost in her myopic focus on pleasing them. To me it wasn't necessary to the overall story itself because the fire between Bria and Derek was enough to carry the story. The secondary characters added an additional enjoyable element.

Another amazing story

This is book 2 in the series and it was just as good as book 1. Though the same as book 1 I feel as though there should be one more chapter, to sum up........

Spoiler don't read of you haven't read the book

What happened to the twins ?
Do they know about their dad?
Why weren't they there to help \ protect him?
How many lives were lost?
Shouldn't Shoshanna have said something at the end after everyone went into the cave?

But i guess this is what makes got read book 3 .

Derek did not want a mate at least not until he knew it was safe for the bears. While out walking he found a woman camping in a area not set up for camper. He told her he would not charge her bit another ranger might. Bria was so excited after meeting Derek she could not get over how he made her feel but unable to trust from her last relationship she had concerns. Her goal was to find bear shifters and write about them to make her family proud. Derek needed to convince her not to while watching ...more

Bria goes to Deep Creek National Park to conduct research on bears and she meets Derek, a hot park ranger, while she is camping. The last time she was in the park she remembers seeing a young boy and his father shift into bears and wants to prove shifters exist. There is a war between lions, bears and wolves that doesn't get settled in the story and she seems too focused on trying to please her parents instead of herself. Interesting story that had some good scenes.

Wow!

The bears are getting ready for war with the lions. Derek is out in the woods when he comes upon bear expert Bria and is surprised when his bear tells him she's his mate. Bria is set on proving that there are shifters but can't resist the hot ranger. Derek now has to figure how to tell her what he is and keep her safe.

A good read with lots of simmering heat plus suspense. A definite must read!

“It’s like a dam burst in my heart and now I’m running over with love.”
That’s how Derek feels about ursinologist Bria when he stumbles across her in the park. But how can he tell her about Shifters when he must protect the clan from the eyes of the Normals? And, with the Shifter war looming, how can he protect her? A great story in the Shifter War series. Steamy and passionate love scenes, exciting action and great world building. Fantastic reading

This book was as good as the first and was a roller coaster of emotions. You get lost quickly in the book and see what your reading almost as if your in it, well written and descriptive there isn't a cliff hanger and will leave you believing in magic and happily ever after

Derek is a ranger and meets his human mate in the woods one day. She wants to show people that shifter's exist but that could be a big problem. On top of that, the war between the bears and lions is still a big issue!!!!
Such a fantastic couple, loved them and can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Bria knows that bear shifters exist. Returning to Deep Creek, she meets up with Derek Poole. Meeting his mate is a welcome, but unfortunate thing. the war between the bear and lion shifters is still on going. Hopefully their love will be able to survive the war.

Pursuing the Bear

A sexy and suspenseful continuation of this shifter war series. I enjoyed the characters and the pace of the story. It was a little predictable story wise but other then that it was a good PNR read.

Derek and Bria's story is full of intrigue and danger, as well as love. The writing kept me tied to this book until the end. I personally feel the bears and lions should share the cave, but it's not up to me. I highly recommend this series.

I enjoy this series and this is book 2. I liked the plot and impeding war and I liked Bria and Derek. There were times though it moved really slow and lots of info on bears...almost too much. There is some info repeating but otherwise an enjoyable book.

A little trite and reliant on far too many stereotypes (scientists, students, shapeshifters, etc.)

I dunno. I was looking for something with a little more chemistry between the main characters and this was not it.
