"Walking into Jack's Wife Freda feels like a big, warm hug. Maya and Dean serve food you want to eat, anytime, any day. Though I'll never stop parking myself at their restaurants, I can't wait to re-create their favorites (and mine) at home."--Jessica Seinfeld, bestselling author of Deceptively Delicious, The Can't Cook Book, and Food Swings

This cookbook is pretty and inspiring and its tone is friendly, just like the restaurants. The recipes are simple and healthy and they feature easily sourced whole food ingredients. This is not a comprehensive cookbook, but a collection photographs and personal stories alongside a small selection of everyday sorts of recipes. The recipes feature flavors and colors that are evocative of Ottolenghi's, but are less complicated to make. I am going to try these first: Veggie Curry with Apple Raisin C ...more

Really sweet book. I eat at Jack’s Wife Freda every time I’m in NYC. I’ll probably never make any of these recipes, but the book is worth it for the introduction and the pictures. If you love the restaurant, you’ll love the book.

The entire book is written in a familiar, welcoming, accepting, part-of-the-family voice and is dotted

Jack's Wife Freda is a book that contains the history and recipes of a seemingly much loved New York diner. Throughout the book you will read historic vignettes, personal stories, and plenty of recipes. Illustrating it all are the numerous photos depicting the restaurant or the recipes.

Some of the recipes you'll find include:

Eggs Benny
Madame Freda
Prego Roll
Nana Tea
Matzo Ball Soup
House Salad
Chicken Kebab
How to Make Your Own Duck Bacon
Jack's Wife Freda Pimm's Cup
Malva Pudding
