Mate of the Tyger Prince #3

Risking the Wild Places

Rate this book
Former Lycan general, Renard Dmitru, is the newly appointed Head of Law Enforcement on Lycanus, trying his best to clean up an illegal love slave operation on one of his planet’s moons. He has set up a sting operation to capture the slavers and put them all in jail for a very long time. But now that the long war between the Axis and the Alliance has ended, Prince Anarr of Tygeria has time on his hands and nothing much to do except train for battles that may never come. He dreams of adventure and longs to leave his boring life behind.  When he gets the chance to go on a rescue mission, he jumps at it, and lands in hot water when he's mistakenly arrested for illegal slavery.

As General Dmitru fights an overwhelming attraction to the young prince, he accidentally compromises the innocent, sheltered young royal and soon discovers he has to make things right with the young man’s father, King Davos of Tygeria. Not to mention placating his furious mate, the royal consort Blake. Add in a gloomy, decaying settlement on a deserted moon, creepy, dark subterranean passages, ghostly apparitions, heroes, romance, and even a damsel in distress, and it’s a recipe for the most rousing adventure of the series yet!

I am still enjoying the third book in the series but frankly, one thing really irritated me in this one. 😒 I didn’t like the fact that there was a repetitive plot in this novel as in second one. The story was nicely written and it’s a good read but I really didn’t want to read spaceship explosion scene twice in the series. 🙂 Aside from that, this was a fantastic read and there are some unexpected twists in the characters of MCs too. 😊

So our second Tyger prince, one of the twins, Anarr has his own love story in this book. As with our mischievous Tyger princes, everything they plan always turned out to be disasters though in a hilarious way. 😂 Anarr is just stark bored since the wars are over when he became old enough to fight and since he’s not the crown prince, he’s also not involved in governing. And because of his overprotective Omak Blake, he’s kinda naïve and innocent like a child too. 😁 So when he got a chance to rescue Kevin’s lost son, Jeffery, in a slavery auction on one of the moons of Lycanus, he immediately jumped at the chance and went straight away. But alas, our hero-to-be prince Annar turned out to be caught as a criminal instead of the heroic rescuer he’s supposed to be.

Former Lycan general of the Alliance Army and now the newly appointed head of law enforcement of Lycanus, Renard hated Tygerians to the gut. 😁 He obstinately believed that as long as he’s not giving in, the war isn’t really ended and they haven’t really surrendered to the Tygerians. Never in a million years, this big, bad wolf has never dreamed of an annoying Tygerian to be his true mate. 😂 And to make the matters worse, a tygerian PRINCE?!? 😂😁😜 That just can’t be true. However, when our beloved and spoilt consort/queen Blake was involved, well, this Lycan General never stood a chance with our wicked mother hen and ended up needing to marry prince Anarrs. 😁👏

Like I said, despite the fact that I disliked a similar plot as in book two, this one also was such a joyful read too. I love how these two dominant males fight over dominance in everything, literally and figuratively .. (if you know what I mean 😂😜😉). I mean a Tiger and a Wolf who are natural enemies ended up being true mates? Haaa .. just my cuppa. 👏 I love that I can read more of Blake and Davos in this one and I really hoped to read more of them in the future too. And wow, what a twist in the story! 😱 The criminal turned out to be someone I really didn’t think of. That was quite a dramatic one and I loveeeed it. 👏 I just can’t seem to get enough of the mischievous royal Tygerian clan. 😊 And I’m loving Blake more and more in every book. 😁 Can’t wait to read book four.

Favorite excerpts from the book: 💜💚💙

”there was no protection against love.”

“The fear of losing what you loved would always go hand in hand with that love. But a person who risked nothing, did nothing—had nothing.”

Notes :

- I really loved the world building.
- Arranged marriage plot. Love it!
- Alpha male! and come on, this is Shannon West. Of course there would be scorching UST and hot sex scenes. Fu*k yeah.
- This book reminds me of old harlequin I used to read back then. *chuckles*
- Okay, I did not expect to become that way. It was like I'm in Wayward Pines all of sudden. It's not a bad thing. Maybe Ms. West decided to cross the line. Finally.
- I'm a bit sad I did not see any mpreg in here. :(

Do not read this as standalone. This book was loosely connected to 'Love Slaves of the Alphas'. You don't have to read that series if you don't want to, of course. It's just a little warning for OCD readers out there.

I must admit that I found this 3rd book interesting and I actually really liked the Main Couple. Prince Anarr and The Lycan General, Renard, were a beautiful couple and not only because both were really handsome, but because they had personality, comunication, and actually cared for each other. Theirs, was an equal relationship, and sure maybe Renard was the Alpha of their little 2 men pack, but he asked for Anarr's opinions, didn't just dictate his authoriry or give orders and didn't act like a domineering asshole, and Anarr had a strong personality, knew what he wanted, decided when he wanted to give in, and pretty much didn't have a submissive bone in his body and that is what made me like this book. In my opinion this was how mates should act. There shouldn't be a master, and one shouldn't be "afraid" to speak his mind. And in the end of the book we also saw Renard abandon the job he loved to make his mate happy(not that Anarr's had asked, but he did bcs he wanted), and during the story we could see a deep connection btw them, the respect, and the love they felt for each other, and their bickering made me smile.

They were the best couple until now.

I have also read the 4th book and also if Anarr's twin brother,Vannos, isn't maybe as strong willed and stubborn as his older brother, he too had a pretty strong character.

4.25 Stars ~ It's always exciting to be back in the world that Shannon West created with her 'Mate of the Tygerian Prince' series. I was particularly looking forward to this third installment as it focuses on one of Mikos's younger brothers, Anarr, and a Lycan general. The Lycanus and the Tygerians have been enemies for a long time, well before the Alliance and Axis were created and the war was fought. Now that the treaty is in effect and the war is over, Renard Dmitri has taken the position as the Chief Enforcer for all of Lycanus. In a huge miscommunication, Renard arrests Prince Anarr believing him to be the buyer of a child in an illegal sexual slavery auction, when in fact Anarr is there to rescue Jeffrey, Kevin's son, who all had presumed lost.

"No matter how gorgeous he was, and no matter how Renard was feeling about him personally, he would not flinch from his duty. But oh gods, this Tygerian—this criminal—this beautiful creature—was somehow his mate. His mind reeled with what that meant."

I swear I think the best thing I've read in this entire series is when King Davos, Royal Consort, Blake, and Mikos, show up at Renard's home, only to see Anarr and his bodyguards chained together outside, using pick axes to break up rock. Oh, the screech that came out of Blake to see his son in a chain gang had me almost spitting water out through my nose. Blake is a very fierce omak, and nobody can mess with his babies. When Blake finds out that Anarr is, most likely, Renard's mate, and has been somewhat compromised, Blake insists on a wedding as Anarr is now ruined for anyone else.

Fantastic book

Shannon West was already one of my must-buy authors, and this book certainly lived up to my expectations. Renard and Anarr were both delightfully strong-willed and seeing them butt heads in coming up with a way to compromise was great. Added to that, I loved watching the conflict between Blake and Renard as each tried to prove that he knew what was best for Anarr. Blake has been one of my favorite spring characters throughout this series! I was also completely surprised by the twist at the end of the book.

Following Lorraine's recommendation, I gave this book a try. Mainly because I was missing Blake and probably because I wanted to read more from that character..

While I won't give the book a perfect score like she did ( sorry my dear !), I did enjoyed it more than the first book of the series which I gave a 2 out of 5 stars.

Storywise it was an easy read despite the tragic plot related to war and its cruelty. I struggled at how the author had wrap the story though. And that twist at the end was more questionable than a refreshing surprise for me. I'm still happy to have read it though for I found that my favorite character is quite an interesting one despite its flaw of reading the wrong type of story to his children... A good 3 from me. Thank you Lorraine

Rating: 3 stars. I think what prevents me from giving this book a higher rating is the two MCs. The fighting between Prince Anarr and General Renard just got on my nerves throughout the book. I enjoyed the story though and for once I didn't figure out the villain right away. However, one of the main components of a story is the likability of the two MCs and they just weren't that likable. One character I really did like was Redmond and some of the story is told from his perspective. I would love for him to have his own book someday. All in all I enjoyed the story. I just wish I liked the main characters more.

Other than Renard (the dude on the cover) is hot, this story had tons of angst! I missed the Mpreg, but I'll live. I like this series! Happy reading!!!
