I had this one on my Amazon wishlist for a while. So I grabbed the chance to review it when it came my way. The book cover is perfect for the fantasy niche and appropriate to the story.

The starting of the book made me doubt whether it was a fantasy story. It felt like a Sci-fi one but then when the first chapter started, all my doubts were cleared away. There was a bit of a disjoint between the prologue and the first chapter. Usually the beginning is not that disjointed.

For a fantasy tale, this

This was a fantasy novel that really made me think on a deeper level than most.

There is a lot going on and a lot to understand since you are diving into a new world. I think that D.S. Johnson really managed to keep his readers up to speed by giving them just enough along the way without making them feel lost or bogged down with information.

There were many surprises and the way that the author was able to keep the pacing just right really helps everything flow naturally.

This is a novel that starts off strong and doesn't let up until the very end.

If you are looking for a novel that is non-stop action and moving, you will definitely love this. There was never any down time when reading this and it made it really hard to take breaks while reading.

Imagery was very masterfully used to make sure the reader felt like they were a part of the novel.

“Magic, Swords, Talking Animals, Castles, and Little People, Oh My!”

Shaz wasn’t aware of the heavy task facing him until he was told of his mission. With his jaguar, Jagwyn, at his side he sets forth on a journey to find his own fate, and to fulfill the prophesy – “a boy-child would bring balance back to the world, and would possess all powers needed to correct the imbalance that greed and evil had wrecked on the world”. He must return to a homeland he doesn’t remember, while acquiring magic rel

I liked how universal this novel was. It is a great theme and setting and manages to appeal to both adults and young adults.

There were many surprises and the way that D.S. Johnson was able to keep the pacing just right really helps everything flow naturally.

Get ready to be immersed in the world and captivated by the characters she has created.
