When oil suddenly gushes from the ground in Whitney, it makes prospectors very happy, but not the inhabitants, for a pestilential smell soon covers the small town. Abandoning her home, Whitney s elder Miss Bluemarket moves to Smithville with her three pets three adult buffaloes. Her search for a new home makes her easy prey for unscrupulous estate agents, and soon she finds herself owning a property whose mere name has the locals shaking in their boots: the Bates ranch..."
The Belgian author Morris (full name Maurice de Bevere) is best known for his humorous cowboy character, Lucky Luke. Morris started his career in 1945 in Le Moustique, creating various covers and illustrations. By the end of the 1940s, Morris met his colleagues Jijé, Franquin and Will. These four artists would be called "The Gang of 4", because they all worked in Jijé's studio at that time. The first episode of Lucky Luke, 'Arizona 1880', was published in L'Almanach Spirou 1947, and was later continued in Spirou. In his early 'Lucky Luke' comics, Morris was greatly inspired by animated cartoons à la Disney. In 1949, Jijé took Morris and Franquin to the US, where Morris met Jack Davis and Harvey Kurtzman, whom he helped with their plans for Mad Magazine. He also met René Goscinny in the US. In 1955, Morris returned to Europe and collaborated with René Goscinny on 'Lucky Luke'. Goscinny wrote the scenarios of over 35 stories, which led to the great success of the series. 'Lucky Luke' is one of the best-sellers i

This must be the most creators to work on one Luke album-> there were two artists, five writers (Guylouis is a trio), and however many colourists were used by Studio Leonardo! The four stories are:
"Bates Ranch" ->Hollywood cameos abound. "The Fortune-teller" ->Gullibility runs a town. "The Statue" ->Before Mt. Rushmore was hallowed ground. "Log Flume" ->How to get logs to wind around.
The art drove my rating down a star because Michel Janvier -who was assisting- did not have the outstanding mimicability of the "Apres Morris" crew so there were times when details just looked wrong.
A old Woman whit very interesting Pets buyes a curst Ranche, but the Curse is just the Agent, selling, reselling the Property by scaring the new Owners out. I feel the Writers didnt know how to develope the Story, so it ended very prematurily. I love spooky Settings, therefore guess my Dissapointment seeing this Story beeing only developed on a surface Level, and not further.
The Fortunteller is a Bankrobber who tricked the impressinable Bank Manager to leave the Bank, so he can steal a new Delivery of fresh Money Notes. pretty predictable Story whitout a big to flash Solution. Its enougn for what it is, a digestable Fillerstory. Next!
Lucky Luke cleans up a Town, and as such is rewarded whit a Statue build into the Mountainsight of Mount Rushmore. A rich Rancher is envious, and hires the Daltons to force the Artist to change the Motive to himselfe. The Artist is quiet fun, and the Antagonist is a nice Weirdo, whos extreme Pride comes out as entertaining, rater the. anoying, but the Story isnt that great eighter.
The last Story is about the Creation of a long Wather based Traveling System for Wood, to destroy the Monopol of a rich Competetor in the Region. Whos obviously intersted in sabotaging the Project. Its fine as well, but not as good as the Rushmore, and Ghost Range Story.
An nice feature of the first Story is, it has some obvious References to real Life Actors. Im nevee that interested in Actors, and it was a bit before my Time, therefore no Idea which Guys are parodied here, but its a nice detail.
I really don't wanna be that kinda person.
Sekali lagi, tulisan ini cuma untuk gua sendiri, as a reminder...
