I have an interest in history of all periods and ancient histories have always been appealing. If You Were Me and Lived in.... the Middle Ages is not a history book or a story set in a historical period. It is a book that contains a lot of information pertaining to the historical period of the Middle Ages. That would be in the period 400-1400 AD.

The illustrations are softly conceived images of dress, housing, cities (villages), castles, and life in general during this period. The author takes y

It’s the year 1072 and we’re traveling to a small town (village) in England, courtesy of Carole P. Roman. It’s the Middle Ages (or Medieval) and this period in history lasted for nearly 400 years.

From the structure of society to what your home looked like (as the daughter of a knight in William of Normandy’s army), Roman details what life was like in the Middle Ages. Her description of life ignited my imagination so clearly, I could close my eyes and picture it.

The sections include society, home

If You Were Me and Lived In...the Middle Ages by Carole P. Roman is yet another awesome history book for kids that adults can learn and love too! I love these books as much as the kids do! They are packed with info from what the kids of the times names would be, what they would eat, play with, wear, school, what was expected of them, class societies, and so much more. The middle ages have always fascinated me and all of Roman's books teach history better than school books! With the wonderful pha ...more

I would expect that most kids who read this book would feel grateful to not have grown up during the Middle Ages. Life was quite difficult and if you were not a family of power and wealth, then life was pretty difficult for you.

Roman focus's on life as a thirteen-year-old girl of privilege in her examples from the Middle Ages. Life for her consisted of sewing and praying. There were rituals and rules that must be kept every day. Life of others in the village was not quite as comfortable. The pea

In this new edition of If You Were Me and Lived in... we travel through time. This time we visit the Middle Ages and let me tell you its very interesting and educational. The illustrator did a great job giving life to the words written by Carole and creating a vivid and colorful world.

I like that the author talked about all what people did, no matter their social status. She writes about everything, food, clothes, games, religion and more.

The book is longer than the ones in the Countries series

This book provides children with an informative look at life in the Middle Ages. The author provides a large amount of information covering everything from crusades, to nobility, peasants and Knights, as well as the variety of jobs, housing and lifestyles of various classes of people that lived in the Middle Ages. It is perhaps a little dryer than some of her other books but it is still an entertains, fun way for kids to learn about history. The illustrations are colourful enough to catch a chil ...more

Carole P. Roman has added another title to her new series on different historical periods throughout the world. I just finished the book on the Middle Ages. As usual, there are tons of facts and details, including the clothing, foods, and recreation enjoyed by the people of Medieval England during the late eleventh century. Carole has chosen the family of a landed knight as her example, explaining the home they would have lived in, the social customs, and the education the children would receive ...more

A child growing up in the Middle Ages would have been born in about the year 1072, more than 900 years ago. This was the age of Knights, Kings, serfs and the like. The clothes were somewhat elaborate, travel was hard, easier by boat surprisingly. The richer folk had large homes with several rooms that housed not only the family but servants, knights and soldiers there to help the owner serve and defend the king. Interesting to me was the fact that seven year old boys were fostered out for severa ...more

I received this book from the author for the purpose of this review. All comments and opinions are entirely my own.

So far the thickest book in this particular series, If You Were Me an Lived In... Middle Ages is a very advanced read for the target audience, and not in a bad way either. It covers so many aspects of the Middle Ages that if grasped at their young age will set them ahead in school when they begin studying this time in history.

It is written in simple terms with some vocabulary words

Another wonderful book written by an amazing author that will take young readers back in time to a fascinating period of history. Carole P. Roman, brought the middle ages to life. In fact we are about to embark on a great journey back to the Medieval time period. Back to the time of castles and knights who fought bravely for the prince. Where peasants were given small plots of land; Before I read this book I didn't know that those peasants that owned land were free while others that didn't own ...more

If you were me and live in...Middle Ages by Carole P. Roman is another marvelous book in her newest series about Civilizations Throughout Time. Her first series introduced culture and customs to elementary age and younger children and with this series, she brings history to life for older students. With muted colors, Mateya Arkova has drawn beautiful illustrations to show what life in the Middle Ages would have looked like in the year 1072 AD. The author takes the reader briefly through a discus ...more

This book is part of a series designed to introduce children to how other people live in different countries and during different time periods. Using a mixture of illustrations and photography, the author talks about children who lived during the Middle Ages and what life might have been like if you were a little boy or girl who lived during that time. She talks about location, family, food, and fun. The difficult or unfamiliar words have a pronunciation beside them and are all included in a pro ...more

We received this book to give an honest review.

K enjoyed the book but not as much as I thought he would. I think because it was a bit longer for him that he was starting to lose interest.
In this book we get to see how it was to live in the Middle Ages and it didn't seem to be too fun. We got to see how some people were not able to be on their own and had to work for those that owned the land. Living in the Middle Ages was hard on everyone even those that

Nine hundred years ago, there was a time period called the Middle Ages. It began in England. People from other countries came to live there. Kings had power. They made the laws and ruled their people. During this time, knights, battles and castles were part of every day. Everyone had a job to do and it meant working together.

I can't tell you enough about this book and series. Ms. Roman really went above and beyond here. It's informative, educational and such fun to read. Well written and chara

They are an excellent introduction to different countries, cultures and time periods for young readers. Two, she includes important people of this time period. The children were very excited to hear about the fo ...more

Here is another type history book about the Middle Ages by Carole Roman.

Here she compares today's small town in England to that of England back around the year 1000. Again we learn the type of clothes, the houses, and the food they ate at that time. The language back then was also strange.

It's a cute book full of information for the young and old, even I learned things while reading. And the pictures were charming and fit the story well.

The only thing that was a negative was the typos I found th

Carole P. Roman is a great traveling companion! If You Were me and Lived in the Middle Ages is an entertaining and educational addition to the If You Were Me series. As you and your child journey through the Middle Ages, you learn about the dress, food, customs and culture of the time. The writing is excellent and a glossary is provided to aid in learning. The illustrations are simply lovely and sure to captivate your child's attention. With thanks to the author for my copy!

Readers will also learn about the different classes of people and what life was like for them. Text seems dull to me and not particularly well written. I think even the title is grammatically incorrect. I cannot recommend this because of the poor grammar. Illustrations are mediocre. A passage showing disagreement of subject: "At twenty-one, they would become a knight, usually by proving his skills or participating in battle." Incorrect punctuation: "Rush torches dipped in animal fat gave the dimly lit interior it's only light."

I was very excited about receiving this book. Which I received free from Cheshire Inc. for my honest review.

I have been looking for fun, historical books for my children to read, since I really want them to understand and learn History in a fun way this year.
This story follows a girl from the Middle Ages, and how she and her family lived day to day life. The pictures are drawn like a cartoon, but are nicely done faded colors.
My daughter loved reading about the clothing the family wears.
