Liked the size of the paragraphs, perfect to keep the attention of my 4 year old. Lots of new vocab about planes that kept my attention, too! Glad I bought it at the airport!

Sayres, Brianna Caplan Where Do Jet Planes Sleep at Night? illustrated by Christian Slade. PICTURE BOOK. Random House, 2017. $16.99.

Do mommy planes give their kids hugs? Do daddy helicopters chide their youngsters about spinning too much before bed? This is a book of questions and wonderings, asking about where jet planes, biplanes, hot air balloons and other flying machines take their rest in the evening.

My son is absolutely obsessed with all things 'airplane' and we both really enjoyed this picture book. Each page has a couple lines of rhyming text and fun anthropomorphized illustrations, making it perfect for a read-aloud. I appreciated the variety of flying machines featured in the book and the subdued coloring that is the perfect choice for a bedtime story. This will be a real winner for all the airplane-loving youngsters out there.

Youngsters often like to imagine where various animals and objects go at night, and this picture book offers some suggestions about what happens to young jet planes when night falls. Following the same pattern as in this creative team's earlier efforts, Where Do Diggers Sleep at Night/ and Where Do Steam Trains Sleep at Night?, the author uses rhyming lines to explore some familiar bedtime rituals such as bathing and brushing teeth but through the idea of those different types of aircraft. Youngsters are sure to be captivated by the idea of a lake becoming a bathtub for a seaplane or how teeth are polished to their whitest by the speed needed for a supersonic jet. The illustrations are filled with friendly flying machines, all headed for a well-deserved rest. Surely, youngsters heading to bed will relish every line and clamor for repeated readings.

Summary:
After airplanes, helicopters, blimps, and all flying machines get done with their busy day where do they sleep? With rhyming verses, Sayres lets us in this world of planes and makes the imagination wonder where planes sleep.

Activity:
Have the students choose between one of the flying machines. Each student will be responsible for coming up with their own idea of where such machine sleeps and illustrate how this would look like.

Decent bedtime story for any little aviation fans. The story follows different types of planes throughout the typical bedtime routines such as brushing teeth, story time, goodnight hugs, and more. The rhymes are a bit forced at times and the rhythm is a little clunky, so this is not my favorite to read aloud. The pictures also creep me out, the facial features of the planes are a bit too exaggerated and “uncanny valley” territory. However my son really likes it so it serves its purpose and earns three stars for me.

This is the third in a series of books from Sayres and Slades which can be used as read alouds at bed time. The subject matter may have a stronger appeal to some boys (construction equipment, trains and now air planes). The books are written in rhymed verses which makes them good experiences for fostering some phonological awareness. Seems like what was created in the first book is simply being recycled in these companion volumes.

The illustrations are beautiful, thoughtful and sweet. However the rhymes and text are terrible (regardless of British vs USA English differences). I feel inclined to give this book only three stars, but my 18 months old son and I love so much the pictures and talk so much over them, that I give this book an extra star.

This would be a great bedtime book for kids interested in all aircraft. It covers planes, helicopters, hot air balloons and more, guessing about what they do at bedtime. As always with these “where do they sleep at night” books, it does a great job of providing limited, interesting and engaging text that rhymes and is slightly repetitive to engage very young kids.

a toddler and up book about the day and night activities of different flying crafts. Each page is two or three sentences about what that aircraft did in the day and where it might rest for the night. Loved the variety of flying crafts, how they have parents too and the simplicity of the words.

Vehicle books will never be my favorites, but these ones are pretty good -- it sure could be a lot worse! I enjoy the artwork and my son loves looking for the mouse on each page as well.

Super fun book! I thought this rhyme-schemed picture book was a very fun read. It had nice animations and the author did a good job at using vocabulary understood by the younger reader. If you like aircrafts and the idea of sleeping this is a book for you! Super fun and cute book to read with your kid before bedtime.

A bedtime story on how different modes of transportation sleep. Reminds me of Jane Yolen's How Do Dinosaurs series.

Transportation book fans will enjoy. Others can probably skip.
