Markus learned firsthand that love hurts when he lost someone who'd meant everything to him. Afraid to feel that deeply again, he's buried his pain, believing his heart is dead. So certain that he'll never be the same, he devotes himself wholly to serving others. Meeting Bree wakes him from a deep sea of grief, and he's stunned to recognize his heart beating for the first time in so long.
Lost, alone and in serious peril, Bree reeled at how her life became such a mess, but, when she can finally breathe again without death on her heels, she wants nothing more than to wring every last drop of joy out of life again. But Bree had seen and heard too much and, for that, her enemy can't afford to let her get way with her life intact…

Markus is a remarkable man who has felt the loss of love and works to make sure no one has to feel what he did. He is dead inside, except for the feelings he has for his fellow seal brothers and their women. Bree has faced death and walked away from the grim reaper. She may not be as strong as she was before they met but she has a new appreciation for life. Bree makes him feel again and Markus makes her feel safe. Now if he can just catch the people who want to kill her he is going to do just what his buddies did, He is going to keep her. Another great addition to the Seals series that will quickly become one of your favorites. Strong characters, snarky comments, danger, adventure, drama, hot sexy seals and another damsel in distress. Ms. Mayer keeps her boys on their toes by giving them females that give them a run for their money. The storyline is fast , steady and keeps you turning the pages. I think my favorite part is when the rest of the seal team ask if they are keeping her, it always makes me smile. Another win for this amazing author.
Markus, a Navy SEAL, knows love. Unfortunately, he also knows loss due to the death of his wife, Fiona. He's slowly healing, yet it is a struggle. Thankfully he still has his job, which he loves, to occupy his thoughts and time. Right now that means training in Alaska. A training exercise that becomes real when an unknown older man, Jake, is pointing a rifle at him. Markus quickly realizes how bad things are upon learning the man's daughter, Mary, has been taken.
Bree, after surviving cancer, decided to visit Alaska, a place she's always wanted to go. Two weeks after arriving, she's now working at a diner, while living above it, and that's when things start going downhill. Bree saw and heard something she shouldn't have while serving customers. Now she, along with Betsy and Mary who overheard as well, are being held captive. As they're holed up in a cabin, with more men arriving, Bree knows things aren't going to end well...they've seen and heard too much. She's not giving up though. She didn't fight to survive just to die like this. When she sees a chance, she's taking it.
Marcus eventually finds her and they get to know each other on the way back to the cabin, building a rapport, the start of a friendship. They've both experienced heartache. Markus in the loss of Fiona and Bree at having to accept last year that she may not have a future. As things continue happening to Bree, Markus is by her side the whole time, determined to keep her safe, and falling for her at the same time.
Can Markus and his teammates keep Bree safe? Will they figure out what's going on before it's too late? Will Markus and Bree see where their connection will take them? Or will Bree be concerned that her illness could come back, therefore not wanting to risk putting Markus through that pain again? Will Markus decide that he's already lost one woman he loved and that with Bree's history, the possibility of losing another one is too much to ask? Will they decide that love is worth it and go after their HEA?
One-click now and follow along as two people struggling with their realities, learn to embrace the possibility of a future filled with love and happiness. Please keep in mind this is part of a series and while each book could be labeled a standalone, I highly recommend reading the books in order for the sake of continuity and full enjoyment of the characters.
I love that Markus's character was married and while I wouldn't wish the loss of a spouse on anyone, this is fiction and therefore it was a necessary part of the plot so Markus could meet Bree. Also, with Markus being a widower we weren't subjected to numerous recounts or references of a vast sexual past. Markus wasn't a manwhore as he was in a committed relationship, nor did he become one upon the death of his wife. (While it wasn't directly stated as a fact, there are numerous references to alluding to Markus not being with anyone since losing Fiona.) Thank you for that! I understand everyone reacts to grief differently, but I never understood why a character needs to go and be with any woman that breathes upon losing a significant other. To me having a long line of women behind you does not convey "I miss her so much. She was my world." Anyway I digress, I love that Markus was essentially numb emotionally until Bree came along and reawakened him. He was slowly healing, but there were still missing pieces and Bree filled those in, bringing him back to life. As for Bree, Markus showed her that he loves her unconditionally and will never abandon her as her ex-boyfriend did, that this is just the beginning for them.

Constant action and suspense and an interesting storyline plus great characters…
This is the seventh book in the SEALs of Honor series that can be read as a stand-alone.
Navy SEAL Markus Donner loves his job and it’s all he has after the loss of his wife of five years. His teammates have kept him going but such a loss is devastating and there’s guilt for not being there to save her instead of out saving others. In Alaska with his team for training exercises Markus stumbles upon three female kidnap victims being held in a cabin in the wilderness, alerting his teammates he takes off after the young woman who managed to escape into the woods, being alone in the Alaskan wilderness is a dangerous place to be if you are not prepared and familiar with the terrain. When he finds her he’s amazed at the woman he finds, she appears so fragile but there’s a spunk to her, she’s survived the toughest battle any human has to and as far as she’s concerned she’ll survive this one.
Bree Henderson is alone in Alaska, recuperating from the aftereffects of fighting sickness, she’s on a journey to find herself again; re-evaluating the life she’d led and almost lost. She’s waiting tables at a diner with two others when a group of unknown men come in to eat and things go awry, thinking that the women had seen or heard something that they shouldn’t have while waiting on them they kidnap them. After almost dying Bree is not willing to lose the new life she’d been granted because of these men and at the first chance, though not physically strong anymore, she bolts from the cabin they are being held at, hoping what she saw in the window meant that a rescue was imminent. The adrenaline rush aided her escape but she ran too far and lost her sense of direction but she’s found by Markus.
Take two people who have known and survived personal devastation and put them together and you have two people with a common bond and understanding even if they’ve faced death in different ways. Trekking back to safety Markus and Bree became friends, they waxed philosophically about life, sharing inner parts of themselves. His protectiveness makes her feel safe and the way she looks at things makes the SEAL feel emotion for someone again. Though rescued the danger is not over, Bree is a magnet for trouble and it takes her a while to figure out why she’s still a target, in the meantime Markus has his hands full rescuing her and keeping her safe.
This reader loves a strong heroine and Bree is a rather unique one, she’s cute, perky and adaptable. She’s physically weak with much internal strength and a strong will to survive, she’s too independent without realizing it as Markus points out to her. The dialogue between them was honest, sometimes without a filter and often amusing. Bree could make the withdrawn tough protective alpha SEAL smile again and it’s not surprising that he’d like to keep her but first he’ll have to keep her out of trouble.
I very much enjoyed this story, the constant action and suspense and interesting storyline plus great characters kept this reader turning the pages. This is a great series with a wonderful bunch of tough men, comrades in arms who became family, and the strong women who complement them well.
An advanced reading copy was obtained from the author.
Dale does it again with this fantastic addition to the SEALS of Honor series. This is the story of Markus and Bree.
Markus is one of the few remaining single SEALS left on the team. He lost his wife a few years ago and hasn't found anyone else to fill the hole in his heart. That is of course, until he rescues Bree. Bree has knocked on Deaths Door and almost crossed over to the other side, but with sheer determination, found herself willing to do what it takes to survive. With a weak body but strong will, she claws her way back to the land of the living and sets off to find some peace and a place to heal in of all places, Alaska. Markus and his SEAL team are sent there for a training mission, but as always, their training mission turn into a rescue mission.
Like any great book that we read from Dale, we have suspense, intrigue, Sexy Seals, strong and independent (yet stubborn women) and best of all, another HEA. Written as a multi pov. Great story line. Awesome descriptions to details. Well written characters that were easy to become emotionally attached to and great dialogue that had me chuckling at times, and sitting on the edge of my seat in others, wondering what they were going to say to get out of their current mess.
All in all, another great read and I hope their are many more books in this series to come. I always love to see when the SEAL Team has a new member or two join in, (cause that means the possibility of more books).
Would I recommend this book? Absolutely!!
Would I read more from t his author? Yep!! Dales is one of my favorites to read!
This story was more emotional for me that the others I have read so far in this series.
Markus lost his wife in a tragic accident and he has just gone through the motions since her death. If his SEAL buddies hadn't been watching out for him and helping him through that dark time in his life there wouldn't be a story to tell. Markus knows death, death on the job and death at home.
Bree knows death as well and she accepts it as she almost died due to an illness that caused her not to be able to bear children. Bree is spunky but her treatments have left her penniless and very week. She is strong and determined and has a big heart and positive attitude that is hard to miss.
She has and incredible memory and sees something that she wasn't mean to see thus landing her as a hostage with two of her coworkers. She escapes and as fate would have it Markus and his team are in Alaska training when one of her coworkers father grabs Markus and asks him for his help.
Something about Bree and her spirit starts to melt the ice around Markus' heart and he suddenly wants to live and love again. He knows that Bree's health isn't guaranteed but that isn't going to stop him from loving her with everything he has.
Fast and furious read. What I have come to expect from this series. This story tugged at my heartstrings.
This is another amazing addition to the SEALs of Honor series with Markus finally moving on with his life and finding love with Bree a cancer survivor. She had been kidnapped along with two other waitresses by some men in Alaska where the SEALs were doing training exercises. Make happened upon Markus and persuaded him to help save his daughter from some men that held them in a cabin. When one man left the cabin Jake jumped recognizing him as the cabin owner's son. They bond him trying to question him as to what the others had planned to do with the women. Then suddenly Bree broke free and started running into the woods. Markus got in touch with his unit and as soon as they arrived he went after Bree to save her from the harsh elements. This was the beginning of their exciting story as the unit had to find and capture all the men involved and save Bree as they kept trying to snatch her because she saw their plans and faces. All the while Bree and Markus connected and started to fall in love. In the end another SEAL found the love of their life and for Markus it was something he did not expect since his first wife died in a diving accident but he got to love again. Now I cannot wait to read Evan's love story
I love that I can catch up on this series with collections of three books at a time. I am reading books 7-10, of which Markus is the first. I think this may be my favorite of this series so far.
The team is in Alaska for training when Markus gets hijacked by a local. Jake is a spec ops vet from before they were spec ops, and his daughter was kidnapped along with two other waitresses from Boomer's diner.
As they check out the situation and tie up one of the men involved, the youngest waitress escapes and runs into the woods.
All Bree could think about was getting away as far and as fast as she could. Unfortunately she didn't think about direction when she did and Alaska is not where you want to get lost in the wilderness.
Bree had run further than she imagined and this journey back was taking a toll. When they stopped to rest Jake shows up and then things take a turn for the worse.
It appears someone wants to clean up loose ends. Lots of suspense and action from here. With an overloaded police department and all sorts of chaos occurring, the team gets permission to help out.
A page turning read that leads to Bree becoming Markus' keeper. I can't wait to start Evan, the next in this series.
This is the story of how Markus met his perfect woman while a training exercise was derailed by local events. She seems to be a perfect match for him after he has been grieving following the death of his wife some time ago. Can they both come out of everything safely and will she decide to keep him or will his colleagues and friends get a chance to step in?
This was a charming story on how Markus met Bree and the events that threatened repeatedly to derail any chance of happiness they might have. A sweet story that was an enjoyable light read in the genre of SEAL meets the woman of his dreams. Well written, it was very enjoyable and very hard to put down as all the dramatic events unfolded.
This book was Totally Awesome. Markus finds a Quirky Woman in Bree, who through no fault of her own has to dodge dangerous men. She was ill and went to Alaska to rest and get healthy. Not telling her family about her illness so they wouldn’t worry about her. She just left. Markus and his team are on an exercise and come upon a situation and Bree. Three woman kidnapped, Bree escapes and hides in the woods. Markus finds her and notices how frail she is. Him being a widow, decides that he will care for her since he wasn’t there to care for his wife, after dying suddenly I a car accident. The friendly banter between the guys and between Bree and Markus made me laugh! I love the way Dale writes. This book, I enjoyed very much. ❤️

This story in the series has to be one of my favorite, although I say that for each one in this series! Each of these SEALs is something special and deserve love, but they never have an easy time getting there. Markus is a SEAL who has loved and lost, his wife died and if not for his fellow SEALs he may not have made it through. He has now seen his brother SEALs fall, one by one, in love with woman who are just as strong as they are and he is beginning to think it may be time to move forward, but doesn't really push it. He and his team are on a routine training mission in Alaska, when their training turns real and they are drawn into a hostage situation with even bigger plans going on. Bree is a survivor and since beating cancer she has decided to live her life for herself. She goes to visit Alaska because she has always wanted to, but little did she believe that she would find herself a hostage. When Markus and Bree meet it is under the worst of circumstances, but they see something in each other. When Bree keeps being a target, she gets the whole team's protection but Markus seems to be the special one. These two characters have both been through so very much that you find yourself hoping that they will get their chance at happiness this time.
While on a training session in Alaska Markus gets kidnapped? But is it part of the training or something that has nothing to do with it? That's when Markus finds out that three women have been kidnapped from a dinner. And he was enlisted to help the father of one of the girls to save them, and that is when he notices Bree escape from the cabin. And, of course, their story begins. This is one of my favorite stories in this series. Dale Mayer has a way of letting you see into the heart and soul of her characters like no one else can. Six huge stars from me.
WOW! Another great story. This was about Markus and Bree. Bree has had a tough life when it came to her illness but she preserved and is trying to safe alive. Kind of hard to do when she has photographic memory and the bad guys want her dead. In comes Markus to the rescue and falls in love in the process. Both are given a second chance at love and life if only the team can keep Bree alive. Once all of the bad guys are captured, Markus and Bree find their happily ever after. FANTASTIC job Dale! I would recommend this book.
Bree has survived being sick. She went to Alaska to start over. Now she has been kidnapped along with 2 other waitresses. Markus takes one day at a time after losing his wife. Him and his team are in Alaska training. A guy has snuck up behind him. He finds out that one of the waitresses is this guy's daughter. He watches Bree escape. Bree is now his responsibility. The bad guys are after her. She saw their plans. Bree is the first woman who has opened his heart. He just has to keep her alive to have a future with her.
Markus doing training exercises in the wilderness of Alaska, finding an old timer who lives there. pointing a rifle at him. Telling him three woman had been kidnapped, alerting his team. Bree a newcomer to Alaska took a chance and is running in the dense woods, with night falling. She was a surviving, now realizing she wrong not to let her family know. Beautiful story for them both opening to love and having someone to share
I enjoy the fact that these stories contain plenty of action along with some romance and are not overshadowed by pages of explicit sex. They have a good storyline and humour which is added to a very likeable group of rugged Seals. The heroine is a strong and interesting character in her own right.
I loved Markus and Bree’s story. I wish there were more Bree’s in the world! As usual, I listened to the audiobook. This book is read by Daniel Henning-one of 3 male readers in this series (so far)-and my least favorite of the three. (But I will listen to him any day over many woman readers who try to do men’s voices!)
I bought this book in a bundle years ago and am now reading it Marcus is in Alaska for training when he is taken to help a man to rescue his daughter. Bree is one of three women who were kidnapped by men who were planning something bad. Marcus and his team are able to rescue them but when Bree became a target he set his sights on keeping her safe. Will she become part of the "Keepers"?
I loved the book it was a great adventure in Alaska with second chances in love and to live after a Deathful experience with health the element's and then bad men but with help from Jake and the seals to service and fi d love all in one sweep its a keeper
This book is so enjoyable! The characters are the same strong, loyal alphas and Bree has depth and strength and is so interesting and fun. The story is action packed. A great read!!!
What a beautiful man! And Bree.... I just want to hug her! To have 2 people that have gone through such apparent opposite paril and yet understand each other so well and support one another was beautiful to watch. Loved their story!
This is the 7th story and I absolutely loved it! I have enjoyed all of these stories and can't wait to read the next one 🌟🌟🌟 I actually just reread the first through fifth stories. 😁🎉 Like I said I can't wait to read the next one! 📚
Poor Markus couldn't save Bree fast enough or enough times. For her and his sake, I'm happy for both. They had suffered ultimate loss and grief. Now they can enjoy life together.
Of course Markus would have to go to Alaska to find someone but that is good. They all goat him about keeping Bree of course one of them wants a chance. But in the end they find their way to each other. Love the series and the author.
She tried to go philosophical with this one and it fell really flat for me. While it was warranted with these characters it was missing something, likely the spiritual factor that lots of people get to when they go through life seasons like these two did.
I read this book in a boxed set. I can't get over this series. So many feels for Markus and Bree. Loved reading their second chance at life and love. Amazing characters. Amazing storyline. Loved Bree and how strong she is. Can't wait for the next instalment of Seals of Honor.
A great read! Loved the character development and the intimate discussions Markus and Bree had regarding relationships, life, living, death, and forgiveness. A great addition to the series.
