I found this book a quite delightful “cozy” mystery. The setting is a magical village which appears completely ordinary to ordinary mortals. It seems gently peaceful until a murder occurs. Then the heroine who has special intuitive powers sets herself to solve the crime. At first I thought that the mystery was going to be too predictable but in fact found the denouement quite satisfying.
The pleasure was increased by a marvellous reading by Karen Savage. The various characters were well delineated, the pacing was excellent, and even the fairy God-cat, Mr Prince Charming, had his moments. A thoroughly enjoyable experience was made even better by the expert narration.

A CHARMING VOODOO is an enchanting delight in an already magical series.

“What power? The power of voodoo. Who do? You do. Do what?” ~ Magic Dance by David Bowie
Tonya Kappes indeed has me under her spell, for she is the only author I would consider reading a book with the word voodoo in the title. (I’m not kidding. Voodoo is way too creepy for me.)

A beautifully quaint town, fun and eccentrically memorable characters, murder, mystery and magic, author Tonya Kappes offers it all, and more in A CHARMING VOODOO, book 10 in her Magical Cures Mystery series. In all fairness, Kappes offers all of the above in every mesmerizing book in this series! However, in this latest installment, readers get to meet new characters, and are introduced to new shops. Whispering Falls, KY seems to be growing at an amazing rate. Or should that be, at a magical rate? Hmmm…You’ll have to read it for yourself. ;-)

As with all the wonderful books penned by author Kappes, A CHARMING VOODOO is a fast paced, hold-on-to-your-chair mystery that will leave you breathless. You’re going to laugh. You may tear up (I did). You’re going to oh and ah. You are going to read your way through a spellbinding thrill ride that you’ll never want to end!

A Charming Voodoo by Tonya Kappes is Book 10 in her Magical Cures Mysteries.

June Heal and her new husband, Oscar Parks, return from their honeymoon to find many changes happening in their little town of Whispering Falls.

New stores are cropping up everywhere; and speaking of cropping, a new agri-hood crops up between the nearest mortal town, Locust Grove, and Whispering Falls. Mortals and Spiritualists sharing the town.

Then a new Spiritualist visitor is killed, and Oscar and June are off on another mystery.

I love everything of Tonya's I've read, but her Magical Cures Mysteries are my favorites. I love learning more about June and Oscar. And you will to.

This was another good mystery in the series. In this one June finds a body in the pumpkin patch. Now she has to figure out who is behind it and why. Of course by the end she has it all put together. Thankfully all is well for now.

What can I say about A Charming Voodoo by Tonya Kappes, but how fun this book was to read! Back to Whispering Falls we go where the whole town is a buzz for the upcoming All Hallow's Eve Event, and new shops are opening in town.

June Heal and her husband Police officer, Oscar Parks have return to this magical town after their honeymoon to find their sleepy little, quiet town, town all a buzz with new folks from the neighboring town of Locust Grove.

June hears that her friends Colton and Ophelia have separated and she has closed her shop up. But that's just the beginning. Paddy Potter and his twin brother Porter Potter are running the Pumpkin Patch. When June over hears two different conversations between Porter and someone on the phone and then between him and Ophelia, June figures nothing good will come out of these.

Later that night Porter Potter is found dead in the pumpkin patch and there is a list of suspects from Colton to Ophelia, to Paddy himself. But in order to help her friends clear them name June jumps in to help solve the murder.

If you haven't read one of these charming books in this series, I highly recommend you do. This series is a fast, fun entertaining read. The characters seem more like friends to you when you read, and you can't help make make your own comments to them out loud.

Another awesome addition to this series. June is my favorite character. She has intuitions and always puts herself in danger but that never stops her from finding the murderer. I loved how she always gets a new charm from Mr. Prince Charming. The cover for this book is one of my favorites. Was happy to see that more shops have opened up. Made the story more fun with new characters. Looking forward to June's next adventure.

Easy, fun read. The grammatical errors drive me nuts but overall you get the point of the story, it's a fun, light, crime read with "catchy" characters that always leave you wanting to read more. Can't wait for the next one.

**I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review**

This was such a cute story. And I have no idea why I just described a murder mystery as cute, but that really is how I feel about it. The setting is an adorable, quaint little village, the characters are quirky, and it just all works. The mystery was enjoyable. I didn't quite have it figured out, but there was enough there to give me that little niggling feeling.

This is my first time reading any of the books in the Magical Cures Mystery Series and I'm loving it. I know I should probably start with the first one in the series, but after just one chapter I didn't want to put it down and find the first one lol

Anyway onto the actual book. This story is a wonderful mystery that makes you wonder without wanting to turn on all the lights in the house. It's one of those books that's perfect to curl up on the couch with some hot coco to read. There's a little bit of romance between the newlyweds Oscar and June even. It's got that perfect bit of mystery that just makes you keep wanting to know more rather than driving you crazy trying to figure it all out(must be why its a cozy mystery lol). Such an awesome read that's honestly perfect anytime you want to get away into a world of modern and magic.

Once again we are transported to Whispering Falls and get to walk along with June Heal. June and Oscar are newly back from their honeymoon and there are so many changes happening in their village. New stores quickly popping up all over the place, the new development, and more and more new people. June's head is spinning with all the changes and her intuition is pinging away that possibly trouble is in the air. Sure enough, there is another murder, another mystery to solve that once again involves not only some of her beloved friends, but also some of the new people that have popped up.
Tonya Kappes never disappoints with the imagery she weaves to make you feel you are really in Whispering Falls, walking right along side June Heal. I challenge anyone not to fall in love with these characters and the town. This latest installment was quite the page turner and definitely had an ending I did not see coming.
If you are looking for an enchanting read, look no farther than losing yourself in the wonderful village of Whispering Falls.
I received an advance copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest review.

I love this idealistic magical community, where you can find exactly what you need, want and require. Fun characters like the grumpy floating head of Madame Torres and a fairy god-cat along with magical and non magical characters this is a great series to read and grow with! Book 10 was like a delightful fall retreat! Strolling the familiar shops and a new pumpkin patch makes for a fun adventure for sure, Mystery surrounding a new comer along with a personal mystery for June that will tug at your heartstrings for sure! Did I mention you can get the news paper there on the wind?...

I absolutely love this series. There's a lot of changes going on in Whispering Falls. A new housing development and new stores popping up and add to the fun. The characters are so much fun. I love Mr. Prince Charming's attitude and that he is always helping June. Can't wait for the next one.

Still too many mistakes

The content was good, but there are words left out of sentences. Sentences that didn’t make sense. I keep hoping I can read just one of these books where there are no errors. May be the next one.

A Charming Voodoo by Tonya Kappes is about June and Oscar returning from their honeymoon to learn about everything that happened while they were gone and solve another mystery.
Will June and Oscar figure out who has it out for the new pumpkin patch?
June and Oscar
June and Oscar learn about everything they missed out on during their honeymoon. They find out about the new housing development and that their charming village is having mortals live near their town. Oscar is letting June help him in solving the case, and I love every minute of that. Not only that but the two of them trust each other. They know that they need each other to help with solving crimes. We learn more about certain citizens in this installment and how that might pertain to the victim.

I adore these two as a couple, and I love that they depend on each other to solve the mysteries together. June is still someone I would be friends with if she were real. I wouldn't mind having some of her lotions to help me out. It's lovely how devoted Oscar is to June and how, even if it pains him to admit, he needs her help.
A Charming Voodoo CRThe Mystery
Patch's Pumpkin Patch is new in town, and someone is murdered there. Or at least potentially dumped there. Poor June and Oscar have to figure out who would have wanted to kill the poor guy. Well, okay, not a really poor guy as he kind of deserved it. He wasn't the most likable fellow, but it still doesn't mean he should have been murdered. Throughout their investigation, they find clues that are linked to people they care about and have to confront them. I didn't get who did it until it was being laid out for June. This was one weird mystery.
Five Stars
A Charming Voodoo by Tonya Kappes is about a ton of different things happening all at once. June and Oscar have their hands full, figuring out all the new citizens in the neighborhood and all the new businesses popping around as well. One of them I'm delighted is there and that I know June is as well but I won't say. Ms. Kappes is good at weaving a great story together.

I am giving A Charming Voodoo by Tonya Kappes five stars, and I am now popping into the next story, A Charming Corpse.

This is my review of the audio version as posted on Audible:

If you're already acquainted with the series, you'll probably like the book more than I did - for the first meeting with June and Oscar and the town of Whispering Falls it's a bit too chaotic. But it's still an entertaining listen, so give it a chance anyway:)

The "chaotic" part comes from the fact that there is more than just a murder investigation going on - we're thrown in the middle of life happening in Whispering Falls, with all its magical and non-magical citizens, the hustle and bustle of their everyday existence, and there's so much of it that a new reader/listener can find it hard to follow at first (I did, anyway). And although usually it doesn't bother me at all, as it adds reality to the story, this time I had a feeling that the "other stuff" takes precedence over the murder case... It turned out finally that all those little, seemingly redundant things were partaining to the investigation, but the impression of chaos remained... I also had a feeling that there's too little investigating and too much of June's intuition throughout the book - but as it's a paranormal "witchy" mystery, I can overlook that little imperfection:)

All that said, I have to say that it's an entertaining listen. Even though the book is not really very long there's a lot happening there, there are a few nice twists in the plotline and some very good suspects with plausible motifs to kill..

Narration by Ms Savage is very good; she does voices nicely and reads at a very good pace - neither too slow nor too fast. It's a very good interpretation of the book.

Title: A Charming Voodoo
Author: Tonya Kappes
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Review:

Set against the festive backdrop of Whispering Falls’ All Hallows Eve celebration, this cozy mystery has plenty of small-town magic, gossip, and a touch of murder.

June Heal has just returned from her honeymoon with local cop Oscar and is ready to settle back into life at her potion shop with her fairy god-cat, Mr. Prince Charming.

However, things in the village have changed—quite a bit, in fact. Between the new shops, housing developments, and endless chatter from neighbors eager to catch her up, one has to wonder… just how long WAS their honeymoon?

The story starts off slowly, with a lot of conversation and town updates, but it picks up once a body is discovered in the new pumpkin patch just before the haunted hayride is set to begin. From there, June must listen to her intuition and utilize her clever sleuthing to uncover the truth before the festival spirit fades.

While the mystery itself was enjoyable and the autumn atmosphere charming, the slow start made this one a little harder to get into initially, though I thoroughly enjoyed the story once it picked up.

Review:

A Charming Voodoo is the tenth book in the Magical Cures Mystery series and I enjoyed reading it. This is the first book that I have read in this series and I see what I have been missing out on.

The characters are well developed and well rounded. I enjoyed getting to know June and Oscar. With June’s intuition, she gets feeling when things are about to go downhill. That would be a hard thing to deal with on a daily basis. Luckily for her, she has Oscar to help keep her world on a even keel. There were many characters to meet and get to learn more about, and they were people I enjoyed getting to know better.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing. The setting that she has created in this series, Whispering Falls, is mystical and inviting. Through much of the book I felt like I was right there, watching and waiting for the magic to happen. She is also very talented in creating mystery and suspense with just her written words. The mystery is well developed and there are enough clues, twists and turns to keep the reader guessing.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fast paced paranormal cozy mystery. I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series, so I can get to know June, Oscar and Whispering Falls better.

Mixing Spiritualist people with non-spiritualist people is asking for big trouble especially for very nosy neighbors who overhear things they shouldn’t hear. I love it when June and Oscar work together to solve mysteries. The story is about the changes that take place in all of our lives as we meet new people and are put into the position where we have to learn to live with new situations and new rules. Because way too often we have no control over the circumstances of our lives. The old saying is when you’re given lemons you make lemonade. This story was more uncomfortable because we watched as good people were faced with injustice in their lives simply because someone else had more power over them.

I really enjoy reading this series. The magical world draws you in with all its charm.
This book had only a couple of "irregular" sentences which was a great improvement over the first 9 books. June and Oscar are actually working together as a team, too.

Tonya cannot seem to remember where her characters are from paragraph to paragraph, what their jobs are or the time of day. From the beginning, the spiritualists did not like being referred to as witches, and then they're calling themselves witches. Later, they don't like the referral, and once again, they're back to calling themselves witches. Figure it out. Baby Orin is now a year old. Do you still need to strap him in across your chest? Since when does Oscar pass out the by-laws to the new spiritualists?

This is the best book in the series yet. So many new additions to the village of Whispering Falls plus an added community right next to it with humans who interact in the magical village. The suspect pool for the murder was huge and at one time, I suspected every single new person. Well, maybe not the little girl. And just when I thought I had it figured out, wham, another direction. June has finally settled down a bit and has some real smart moves in this story. Nice to see June and Oscar figuring out married life and how to work together better. I always enjoy my visit to the village and looking forward to reading more about the new folks.

June and Oscar are settling into married life and there are several new businesses coming into the village. The twin brother of one of the new business owners is found dead in the pumpkin patch. There are quite a few suspects and the dead man has ties to a couple of people in the village. As Oscar and June look at the suspects, June is thinking that she might have a surprise for Oscar. Love is in the air around the village too. They have to clear their friends before the real killer gets away.

Another good read from Tonya. I love reading these cozy little mysteries in between darker or heavier stories in the horror genre. It's a nice little break. Tonya has developed her characters well in this series. They are believable and fun. Very imaginative. However, I'm wondering if this is the last we'll see of June Heal? A series can't go on forever. . . or can it? While I like her other stories or series, I find this one easier to get into and I will be looking for the next book.

A lot of changes are coming to Whispering Falls. Several new shops are opening along with a pumpkin farm. There is also a house development that has been approved. There are several hiccups that come with growth. One of the hiccups is a murder. With all the growth the suspect list has gotten long. June has to finally answer the question of children. It also looks like there may be a couple weddings in the future!

June dodged a bullet in this one.

I am so in love with Whispering Falls I can't stop reading them.
Tonya brings more Spiritualists and couples into the fold. With relationship drama to boot.
So who killed Patty? Who is practicing voodoo? Whose wand was found at the scene?
You'll just have to read it to find out.

Times are changing in the enchanted village of Whispering Hills. The Dark side spiritualists and now humans are allowed to live and work in the village. An actual housing development has been approved, will this change everything? You’ll have to read the book to find out. Wonderful magical series.
