Theodore Sedgwick (son of the leading Federalist from Massachusetts) was a Federalist himself until the dissolution of the party, then ended up supporting J. Q. Adams -- and then Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren. This book is his attempt to teach British classical economics to 19th-century Americans. Sedgwick argues that laissez-faire economics is the best way to achieve an egalitarian distribution of wealth and a republican simplicity of manners. It's fascinating stuff.
