NEW STORY ARC! "THE WAR FOR PHANG," PART ONE. SAGA is back with its most epic storyline yet, and to celebrate, FIONA STAPLES graces this issue with a gorgeous wraparound cover! Finally reunited with her ever-expanding family, Hazel travels to a war-torn comet that Wreath and Landfall have been battling over for ages. This arc is a self-contained "event" we've been building to since our very first issue, so now is the perfect time for readers who love SAGA's bestselling collections to join our monthly adventures!
Brian K. Vaughan is the writer and co-creator of comic-book series including SAGA, PAPER GIRLS, Y THE LAST MAN, RUNAWAYS, and most recently, BARRIER, a digital comic with artist Marcos Martin about immigration, available from their pay-what-you-want site www.PanelSyndicate.com
BKV's work has been recognized at the Eisner, Harvey, Hugo, Shuster, Eagle, and British Fantasy Awards. He sometimes writes for film and television in Los Angeles, where he lives with his family and their dogs Hamburger and Milkshake.
So this marks the beginning of a new story arc and this means new locations, new characters and maybe some returning characters. This issue has it all, but what it also has is an ominous feel that everything is going to end so horribly bad, and I'm scared, like really scared. I think I recall Brian K. Vaughan naming this "Saga's first major event" or something like that, and it sure feels like the start of something that's gonna effect the series in a big way.
"Every new world we visited was an adventure. And few adventures ended worse than this one." This was amazing, and really got the Saga spirit inspired by the stuff of stars that wasn't all that present in the last arc. This my end up being more amazing than all the previous of Saga... and that scares me.
It's so weird reading this as a floppy, but man was it good. I really like Peteichor, and the little guys at the end were hella cute. Also, there was a dick on page four. How could I not give this five stars for that alone? ALSO Lying Cat is back and she is my most favorite character. One of the better issues, I think.
The spaceship is running out of fuel and they need to stop somewhere.
The only place they can land is a comet where Moonies are currently at war with the Wings, so that's not the ideal planet to go with a kid. Especially theirs.
Prince Robot bitching about things and calling the couple sex criminals was the best in this one. Izabel was funny as hell too.
This chapter is a filler, however I love Fiona's cute tiny creatures, the ones at the end of this issue are similar to sad little meerkats but with the same loving expression of my fave aka Ghüs.
It's extremely difficult to rate the individual chapters, therefore the following is a review of the seventh volume. In other words, chapters thirty-seven through forty-two.
Brian K. Vaughan’s Saga series is the only graphic novel series I have continued to read after a couple of volumes. There is no doubt that it is my favourite graphic novel series, and volume seven is my favourite of the series thus far.
There was so much more packed into this one than I’d anticipated, sucking me deeper into the story and progressing many elements. It was packed with emotion and handled lots of topics throughout, ensuring I could not get enough of it. Every volume of Saga has managed to do more than expected, but this one did more than the rest. It gripped my heart throughout, and I fell a little deeper into the universe.
Without a doubt, if you’ve read this far, you’re sure to be lost to this volume.
Saga does erotic content so well — integrated as a core part of the story and never gratuitous…okay, never *too* gratuitous. As D. Oswald Heist claims in his last, unfinished work: the opposite of war is fucking. So it makes sense that the start of an arc set on a war-torn comet would feature a fantastic spread of Sir Robot IV jacking off!
Seriously, though, this sequence is masterful in terms of page layout and panel design: three phallic-shaped panels on the left side and a Watchman-esque 9-panel layout on the right, each panel flickering through Robot’s meandering fantasies.
1. “Families are ***damn wildfires.” 2. The entire pane of a penis...well okay. Haha 3. And robot having sexy thoughts of Alana....please don’t let that be a thing. 4. I love how much Hazel loves adventure and danger. 5. LYING CAT AND LITTLE SOPHIE!! 6. This little meerkat things at the end look cute but I don’t believe them.
This comic is big on families and I really like that. Ooooo someone has a crush. This comic is definitely NSFW and I love it. The little creatures are cute/creepy.
Saga #37: -Sophie is already 10 years old and wants to become a freelancer like Gwendolyn. -Hazel's family have to visit Phang for some fuel but it'll be risky. -Marko and Alana need to discuss to Hazel that she's going to be a big sister sooner or later.
