KNIGHT IN SHINING APRON is a a cozy romantic mystery, but the more important aspect is that there is psychological bullying going on because of domestic abuse. Starli's husband abused her mentally and physically, but has been dead for seven years. His brother recently returned to Appleton, West Virginia and began bullying and harrassing Starli, accusing her of causing his brother's death. There are not descriptions of the abuse except to refer to bruises and a broken finger. The mystery surround ...more

What I think you should know:
Knight in Shining Apron is an Appleton WV, Romantic Mystery Book Two, while it can be read as a standalone mystery I enjoyed it so much that I am going to go back and read the first book in the series. Starli is a woman determined to make her restaurant a success and stand on her own two feet. She is reluctant to accept help even when it is for her own good. Joel arrives in Appleton at the request of his uncle and find much more than he bargained for.

A sweet cozy mystery that has a romantic thread running through it and a bit of a obsession around food. While I had it mostly figured out partway through it is still an enjoyable read. Perfect for a rainy afternoon.

Carole Brown has this uncanny ability to make dislikable heroes and heroines. She’s done it again in Knight in Shining Apron with Starli, who I loved to hate. Her hot/cold attitude made me feel ill. Every time she would get jealous over Joel and react with high school drama and catty remarks, I rolled my eyes ( I know, real mature of me). The uptick to that is Starli’s character growth. When you start at the bottom, the only way to go is up.

Now, don’t get huffy with me. I understand why Starli a

KNIGHT IN SHINING APRON is a a cozy foodie mystery, yes. Yet it goes beyond that to become a psychological cozy tackling the issue of domestic abuse thoroughly, but also in a manner that won’t distress readers of cozies and classical mysteries. This is a well written story.

Sir Joel Peterman, an actual British knight who is a bonafide gourmet chef, is mistaken for a new hire dishwasher and gets off on the wrong foot with Starli Cameron, the owner of Apple Blossoms restaurant in West Virginia.

I really enjoyed this clean romance/mystery book. The author has become a favorite of mine because she writes stories that are easy to relate to and has wonderful biblical truths scattered throughout. Her characters are always charismatic and fun to get to know.

The title is so perfect for this charming story. Starli is very driven and is determined to make her restaurant a success. I loved the name of the restaurant which is called Apple Blossoms. It is a charming place that has become very popu

My Thoughts on Knight In Shining Apron:
This is a new to me author that I’m definitely enjoying.

Knight in Shining Apron is a nice read for a quiet night alone on your couch. A bit of mystery but mostly romance. Also, make sure you have a snack because there’s a restaurant and a chef and that makes me hungry.

So I say this is mainly a romance, but there is a theme of abuse in it. It’s nothing graphic or over the top but it is definitely there. You can’t just skim over it. Just a heads up for anyon

Knight in Shining Apron is a fun romantic mystery. The book centers itself on domestic abuse and bullying. Starli's suffers from mental and physical abuse from her husband who has been dead for seven years. She gets hit again when P.O. Roland Stratton, her police officer brother-in-law, returns to Appleton, West Virginia stalking, threatening her and blaming her for his brother's death.

Starli Cameron sure didn’t make a wise decision about marriage, since it ended up a total nightmare. But relief comes at the death of her husband, but not for long, as she is now being blamed for his death. As the story unfolds, Starli is faced with many challenges. And I love the way Carole Brown handles the struggles these characters were dealing with. So many people face these same struggles in every day life, and maybe someone reading this book can find real help. Wo

Quite an interesting story about an English knight showing up in an upscale restaurant in a small town in West Virginia to work as head chef. It makes for a rather quirky tale as the owner of the restaurant is as prickly as a porcupine and has a difficult time trusting people, especially men. As it turns out, he is the nephew of the maître d’. His Uncle Lawrence, also known as Manny, had sent for him when Starli was having a problem finding a replacement for her previous head chef. Manny was one ...more
I've read other books from this series previously, and it was nice to visit this community again. I felt welcome among this tight-knit group of friends. Since I read this book out of order in the series, I can attest that it definitely stands alone.

Starli's character was very well-written. The abuse that occurred years ago in her marriage still haunted her perception of herself and how she related to people. Joel was a charming lot of fun; so jovial, and patient with her. I liked that their rel

I knew I'd like this book just from the title! I truthfully didn't want to put this book not only held my interest due to the characters being so unique, but the mystery woven throughout the book. It has a romantic interest but very light. Starli owns an upper class restaurant that is pretty new and she "takes on" a new chef who is a Brit and a Knight. I felt like I could actually hear his accent when he spoke. She is bitterly against a relationship with a man due to being hurt from he ...more

Knights in Shining Apron combines domestic violence, cooking, music, ice-skating, and British royalty into one unbelievable book. Starli brings a depth to the story through her brokeness from domestic violence and her determination to ensure her restaurant succeeds. She managed to make me love her from the very beginning. I wanted to see her open her heart to love and find true happiness.

Starli friend got his nephew to work at her restaurant. Her and Joel have a of fun together. Loved the ice skating scenes. Will they fall in love or is her restaurant the love of her life?

There is a mystery of who is after Starli. One person who is harassing her is the brother of her dead husband. But a lot more is going on. I did not suspect the person that was doing it. The person who I thought it was did not do it. Read the book to see who if you can guess the suspect.

A most enjoyable way to spend an afternoon! Starli is the proud owner of Apple Blossoms, an upscale restaurant. She is also a survivor of domestic abuse. Learning to trust anyone, especially a man, is almost impossible. The new chef, Joel, is a Sir from England, having been knighted for his extensive volunteer work with the downtrodden. His experience in the kitchen

I enjoyed reading this romantic mystery but I don’t think it was quite as good as the first in the series. I love the town and the minor characters but I didn’t always care for the main characters in this story. I did like the mystery though. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Hints of an abusive relationship between restauranteur Starli and her late husband are the focus of this romantic intrigue. When first introduced, it seemed Starli had a huge chip on her shoulder and was at odds with many in the town, including her former brother-in-law, a policeman, who constantly threatens to avenge his sibling’s death. Starli has more on her plate to deal with as her former head chef abruptly leaves, with an ominous note “accidentally” left for Starli to find, vandalism and s ...more

"Knight in Shining Apron" by Carole Brown is the second novel in the (An Appleton, WV Romantic Mystery) series. I think even if you didn't read the first one book , this would still be an enjoyable read. It is a love story but it is also a mystery. The title is really a great fit for this story.

Starli wants to have the best restaurant in town but she is afraid because her dead husband brother is threatening, but is all the threats coming from him or is someone else trying to ruin her business.

Knight In Shining Apron by Carole Brown, is a delightful Christian book set in the beautiful little town of Appleton West Virginia. This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Brown and it’s actually book two in a series but despite not having read the first one I enjoyed the book but am now curious about the previous book. This story has many aspects I enjoy in a book, Christian values, sweet romance, and a mystery. If you enjoy Christian romances you’ll love this book and the character of Starli C ...more

I love Carole's books, and this one is no exception. It is a wonderful combination of romance and mystery that made for a really fun read. The characters and the story line had me hooked from the first pages, and I read it in on setting because I didn't want to put it down. Now to just patiently wait for the release of her next book. I definitely recommend this book along with her other books to anyone who enjoys good Christian fiction. ...more
