Unleashing Sin

Rate this book
Alex 'Sin' Sinclair has spent the past two years being haunted by the ghost of his missing--presumably dead--sister. However, chasing monsters has its limits, and he often finds himself at the bottom of a bottle to cope with the pain. But when a woman is left for dead on his doorstep, he has a choice to make. Can he put his sister to rest and focus on saving someone who's still living?
--------
My name is Alex ‘Sin’ Sinclair, and they don’t call me Sin for nothin’.
After losing the person who meant everything to me, I lived up to the connotation. Saintly behavior wasn’t in my repertoire when I f*cked countless women. I made my home at the bottom of a bottle, and my only acquaintance was heroin.
I existed in my own personal hell while I vowed to end the lives responsible for ending her.

Then I found you.

Feeble, alone, needy. Everything I don’t want. A distraction from the task I set my sights on years prior. I tried to resist you, but something about you calls to me. I’m not good for you, but the truth is, I think you’re exactly what I need.
I pushed. You pulled. I tried to protect you from my darkness. You fought to pull me into a different light.

We became distracted.

This is a prequel to the Revive Series and is a complete standalone.

Book: Unleashing Sin
Author: A.M. Wilson
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Dual
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: 4 Stars!

Age: Shelby - 18, Alex Sinclair - ?

Triggers: Violence, drug abuse, rape, prostitution.

I’ve shown her the ugliest, darkest sides of my blackened soul, yet here she is, dragging me into her light.

Do you know the kind of book that just grips you by the throat and refuses to let go? Unleashing Sin is one of those rare books you come across that just leaves you breathless, that the characters become a part of you and you can't help but be a part of their story.

After reading Pitch Dark from A.M. Wilson (a 5 star read and those are rare for me, especially when I haven't read from the author before), I was so excited to start Unleashing Sin. And the book didn't let me down. This book wove a spell that I didn’t want to end. It was tragic, it was swoony, it was electric and it was heart-wrenching. Every emotion you can think of will be pulled out of you for this beautiful book and you’ll love every minute of it. It was such an unforgettable and unique read, I was sad when I finished it. The plot made me sniffle. I could actually feel the ghosts of tears deep in my eyeballs. It was so so SO well written and emotional and the characters....ohhhh my gosh.

You’re like a fuckin’ flower. So delicate and sweet. You’ve got to grow in order to turn into that blossom. Then you can try to make people happy and spread that nectar you got inside you. Until you bloom, you can’t help anyone but yourself. Fight for the sun, blossom. Don’t try to share it with me.

Sin and Shelby both withstood so much pain, my heart ached for them. Shelby was the standout for me. Usually, I don't like her sort of heroines but she carried the story for me and that is rare. She also went through a lot of shit and I was pulling for her. She was a very relatable main character and her ways of dealing with her grief and anxiety made for heart wrenching stuff. While Shelby was a standout, Sin was not. He was an asshole, frankly. Some of his actions were trashy and uncalled for, and there are some OW scenes. But when he changed his ways, he was the most loving, sweetest and caring man ever. I also really enjoyed the dynamics between Sin and his best friend Elias. I'm so excited to know that Elias gets his own book.

My heart absolutely breaks for the man before me. A man who’s lived through so much pain and guilt, he can’t even see himself for what he really is. A man who’s trying his hardest to make life easier on me while at the same time giving me a safety net to heal.

This book feels hugely profound as it deals with survivor's guilt. It deals with feelings of shame that victims of sexual crimes experience. And all these important issues are handled incredibly sensitively in my opinion. The writing itself was just so flat out good. Wilson does have a way with words and descriptions. I don’t want to spoil too much about the story because you really need to experience it all firsthand. The way Shelby finally learns to deal with her grief, anxiety and guilt, reconnects with the people and family from her past and finds out the aftermath of her absence... It’s agonizing, it’s real, and it’s beautiful.

How the hell did a big bastard like me make that princess laugh? And what does it say that I want to do it again?

After Pitch Dark and Unleashing Sin, I want to read every book Wilson has written. Though both these books deals with sensitive subjects, Wilson tackles this delicate issue with ease, grace, and beauty. She showed us that LOVE has the power to HEAL.

“What’s wrong?” She looks me directly in the eyes, letting the rest of the tears fall. “I forgot what it was like to feel alive.”

A.M. Wilson delivered an exceptionally well written story with a plot that keeps you engaged, primary and secondary characters who make you swooon, holy shit hotness, and finishes it all with dark romance you can't help but love.

I won’t lie, I almost DNF’d because I disliked Sin so much. BUT he he cleans up his act and definitely redeems himself!

Chloe/Shelby was found bruised and battered.. and mistaken for Sin’s missing sister. He’s not ready to give up on her but there’s no way he’s going to be nice to this random girl. He’s got his own demons, he doesn’t need hers too.

I love that she names herself and takes back control of her life. She is one of the strongest FMC’s I’ve read about. Loved the change in Sin as well. He really turns his attitude and life around.

A.M. Wilson is a new to me author, and finding not only the series Revive, but Unleashing Sin on sale seemed like a good opportunity to find out if she writes my kind of stories.
After reading Unleashing Sin,the prequel to the series,i have to say yes.

Alex “Sin” Sinclair acts like an arsehole to the women he sleeps with.
Drinking and using drugs to numb the pain and feelings of guilt at the disappearance of his sister Molly.
Finding a girl near death in the alley of his bar shocks him.
Because this could be her,the sister he knows is still out there....
The girl his father was murdered for in their search to find her.
Finding out when she finally regained consciousness, when she was healed enough,it wasn’t Molly makes him lash out.
Angry at a girl that went through hell, that can’t help nót being his sister,is a new low point in his life.
The feelings she evokes frighten him,and he tries to keep his distance, but fails.

Shelby is lucky to be alive, but the hell she’s been through has left his mark.
And how to find a way to deal with the trauma is hard.
Somehow, she feels safe with Sin,even though he does his best to push her away.
Getting to know him better, she sees the real man behind the mask, and likes that man.
He even starts to help her by pushing her boundaries, making her stronger.
But that stubborn man thinks he doesn’t deserve her......

This was a tough story to read.
Not only the situation Shelby was in for two years.
But Sin’s behaviour towards her in the beginning.
Even though he could clearly see her trauma, and even though he felt guilty after treating her badly.

It took me a while to like the guy,but he really redeemed himself.
And Shelby, she was so strong,so determined to fight for herself and Sin.

Unleashing Sin is the prequel novel in the Revive series and I loved every word. Now, as with Redesigning Fate, it's dark and nasty in places but it needs to be, it really does. A.M. Wilson gives you a view that is sometimes skipped over or ignored in favour of the light and fluffy story. Trust me, if you want light and fluffy you need to grab yourself a different book. However, if you are prepared to take a walk on the dark side, then you are in for one helluva ride.

Sin has to be one of the most anti-heroes I've ever read about and he was simply perfect. His life hasn't been easy, in any way but things go horribly wrong when his father is murdered before his eyes. This leads him to having a break down and things only get worse when he thinks he has 'miraculously' found Molly when he actually hasn't. His reactions and grief are horrible to read about as they tore me up inside.

Shelby has been through what no person should ever go through. Although she sees herself as weak, she is incredibly strong and has the willpower to move forward. She is there for Sin as much as he is there for her, but make no mistake, she isn't prepared to take his sh*t either!

A slow-burner as it wouldn't be right any other way. So much here that I loved, so much so that as soon as I finished this book, I simply had to re-read Redesigning Fate!

If you like darkness in with your romance, then I simply can't recommend this one highly enough!

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

As I pry open my heavy eyelids, I swear I must still be dreaming. Elias cradles a woman, her frame wrapped so tightly into a ball she almost looks like a child. But it’s the paleness of his face that gives it away. He wouldn’t look that way for just anybody. Sure, he’s a decent guy. He cares about his fellow human beings. But this is different. I can feel it.

“Brother,” I choke out, the word rough like the quiet grate of sandpaper along the uneven grain of wood. I slip out of my chair and onto my knees, scrambling in my rush to get to my feet.

His arms tremble as he carries her towards the black leather sofa. When I step forward in approach, he pauses, his eyes lifting to meet mine. “I-I’m not sure. She needs help, but brace, brother.”

My heart thunders against my rib cage as he tenderly lays her down. It’s now that I notice the almost black hair covering her face is matted with dirt and what looks to be blood. A rage so fierce consumes me I almost snap. A blackness coats my veins in the vile oil that’s tainted my blood for so long, I don’t think it’ll ever come out. Hatred and pain.

“Molly?”

Elias sweeps her hair from her face, and all the alcohol I’ve consumed today rises up my throat with a vengeance. I howl in fury and fall to my knees, choking on the putrid taste while at the same time trying to contain the urge to crawl to her. As much as she may need me, I need to go after those fuckers. There’s hell to pay, and after all these years, it can’t wait another second.

All thoughts of retribution wipe clean away when she retches violently from the sofa, and I get the first and last glimpse of her face that I ever want to see. Bloody and bruised. Scrapes and cuts covering every single beautiful inch. Dirt smears and fluids crusted.

Time stops as the image of her face tattoos itself into my mind. Each beat of my heart is the pierce of the needle inking her image onto my soul. The battered and broken face of my life’s singular worst failure.

It’s so swollen it’s unrecognizable. Her eyes, two black puffy creases, the lashes are hardly visible. The left cheek is disfigured and misshapen while the right has a long cut from eyebrow to ear. Smears of dried blood and dirt color her otherwise pale skin.

What irony that the day our father takes a bullet to the head my sister’s broken body lands on the doorstep to his bar?
Obviously none.

But what do I do about it? Trade one revenge for another? The vengeance I held an eternal flame for passes onto his torch?

Do I let his death go silently now that I have Molly back, or do I avenge my father as tirelessly as I hunted Molly’s kidnappers?

Can’t say I had much respect for the fucker.

“Sin,” Elias calls, and I stop debating shit that doesn’t matter right now. “I need to go down and talk to Richard. See what to do. Stay with her. I’ll be right back.”

I try to speak but there’s a lump in my throat. I clear it and try again.

“Yeah, you go. See what he says. I’ll stay here.” Crawling to the sofa, I turn and sit with my back against the edge. My head is near her stomach where the scent of the leather couch barely masks the putrid odor of an unwashed, soiled body. The vomit I only just choked down comes crawling back up again.

In my peripheral, I can just make out her face. Not that I want to. God, the sight is like a punch to the gut. I deserve it. My mind is screaming stare at her, fucker. Look what you did.
So I look.
Then I look away.
And look again.

How can one person be so close to heavenly while at the same time look like hell?

Forcing myself to breathe deeply through my nose and relax, I drop my head onto the leather seat and close my eyes. She’s here. That’s enough for right now. When Elias gets back, we’ll take her to the hospital. Then home. Clean her up and care for her injuries. I swear on my fucking life I’ll do whatever it takes to heal her.

Engaging, entrancing, epic with a tragic, heart-rendering struggle. This is not for the faint of heart. It is bitter and barbarously unkind. This tore at my heart and brushed my soul! I love the characters at the same time I grieved for them, I sobbed because Miss Wilson wrote a story that grips you in a most merciless way. It is easy to see where she wanted Sin to be and the emotions she wants her readers to feel, but it is more. She gets the creations she has made and pulls no punches about the response she invokes. Brutal yet Beautiful. You either love Sin and Chloe or you do not. Either way you get to know them personally. It depends on your perception. I will be reading more from this author.

Dark and Gritty!
I have really enjoyed reading this book, the author did such a great job developing the characters, that I feel like I really know them, and not just the major characters, but the minor ones too.

Also, it caused me to lose quite a bit of sleep while I was reading it, because it was so hard to put down at night.

This is the Prequel story in the Revive Series a well written story by an Author I have not read before. Unleashing Sin was a spectacular story that I couldn't put down. A.M. Wilson penned a slow burn romance which had me utterly captivated, though also frustrated with the push & pull. And the feels?! HOLY HELL THE FEELS! There were so many pulled out of me that I'm still a hot mess to be honest, and aren't those some of the best kind of stories to experience?! I'm not saying that I didn't get mad at the hero, Alec 'Sin' Sinclair, because I did, but he had some major demons he was battling. And Shelby was sent to him in a very bad way, so the journey was highly intense, while horrific things happened to both, on top of the topics making it hard to breathe as I went through it with them. Both Sin & Shelby were broken people, who were brought together to maybe heal each other, or give purpose, you'll have to decide so hit those one click buttons after you have tissue at hand to experience Unleashing Sin for yourselves! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Unleashing Sin was everything that I expected and MORE.

Holy shit this was f#cking hot!! And it just escalated in the background chapter by chapter and I knew either I was going to combust. What an insane ride!! A ride I never wanted to get off!!

The slow burn romance created by Allison was dangerously addictive. I loved everything about it!

It is an intense journey where the villain of the story is an angry angel.

This is absolute PERFECTION!!! Passionate and oh so enthralling, Unleasing Sin completely absorbed me into its pages from that very first scene! The words on these pages will give you goosebumps. Your mouth will be left hanging open.

Ladies, if you haven’t had a chance to read her books you are missing out!
Unleashing Sin, is a blazing inferno of heat radiating throughout your mind, body, and soul.

A horrific and yet beautiful story. Alex Sinclair has lost everything to men that do horror ,,or things to women. Yet through all the hotel they give him the one thing they never meant to. An ANGEL. Shelby was torn away from everything that is innocent and pure, thrust into the arms of a broken man she learns to heals and heal him in the process. The passion in this story is heavy and all consuming. The anger and hate is heart wrenching. The love, the love is pure and anchors your soul.
A powerful story about a horrific reality that gives our broken characters an HEA worth fighting for. Through loss and pain, through the dog of filth and anguish comes the light spear head on an arrow of love for our characters.
I am hooked beyond words with this amazing story and want to gobble up every book in the series!
An amazing read.

I have been waiting for this books sin the first time I ment Alexander Sinclair and I was not disappointed. If you are anything like me be prepared to have you havert ripped out in the first few chapters as you are about to feel his pain. Sin is no Saint he a complicated man to those who don't see past the tattoos beard and the hard persona they will never see the broken man with a heart of gold they will never see the broken complex torture soul who deserves love and redemption and this book give you a glimps into a world of who this man is a look behind the curtain of what many might see a harsh dark bastard is actually a trurly unquie torutue soul who stole my heart many year ago back in the book redesigning fate when all we saw was an arragont bar tattooed bartender

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I loved it, will definitely be reading more.
Being kidnapped at 16 Shelbys life becomes a living hell.
The sinful Alex is torturing himself for his sister being kidnapped, determined to find her and chasing his demons away with drugs and alcohol.
Very strong characters, Shelby is a fighter and won’t let the hell she has suffered be the end of her story.
Alex, has 2 sides to his character the dark broody Sin who takes no crap and is harsh with his words and actions and Alex who slowly but surely we get to see more of the more Shelbys strong, determined, fighting character effects him, I loved both sides of him.
I love a dark read and this didn’t disappoint.
Looking forward to reading Elias’s story

I have been anticipating this book for some time now. I absolutely LOVED every single word of it. The darkness. The sizzling moments. Just absolutely everything that was involved in this whole story. There were so many factors involved that added to the level of the story. Alex is a unique character with such a tortured soul that makes you just want to fall in love with him. Then you add Shelby. It was pure magic. This story was so much more of a beautiful story of growth and repairing what was shattered. I could not put it down!

This story is so much more that what I expected it to be! Sin and Shelby’s story is about loss, grief, anger, vengeance, and healing. This is a beautifully written story which is intense, emotional, dark, heart-wrenching, and a captivating and powerful story, which is not for the feint-at-heart. This is a new author to me, and I will most certainly be looking out for her work in the future. I highly recommend for all lovers of a dark romance story.

This was a quick read and I was so enthralled. I absolutely loved it. It’s fast paced and evokes so many feelings. It’s so hard not to feel for the characters, especially Sin and Shelby as they go through so much throughout the book.

This book gets deep really fast and touches on so many dark issues like sex trafficking, kidnapping, trauma, and more. Shelby is the FMC and she is so easy to love. She has been through so much and it is extremely touching to see her come as far as she does throughout the book. Alec (Sin) is going through his own emotional trauma and working through it how he knows how to. Sin is an a*hole, trying to keep everyone far away and guarding himself. Reading Shelby and Sin’s relationship and seeing it unfold is awe inspiring. This book was beautiful and keeps you on the edge of your seat hoping that both Sin and Shelby get their revenge and find peace.

I loved that the book was so fast paced and everything happens so quickly. It doesn’t keep you guessing for long, while also holding your attention and keeping you guessing. This was a slow burn, but the chemistry is there and I was rooting for Sin and Shelby throughout the whole book. This was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read from me! I cannot wait to move on to the next book! I love Elias and how sweet he was with Shelby!

I loved this book Sin was "meaty and mean" this was a realistic book and i loved the fact that Sin was so emotionally crippled over Molly his sister. I loved Shelby, her transition from a broken, beaten almost dead drug addicted woman to the strong character she became and how they healed each other was truly wonderful. I really enjoyed this book the characters were so good i loved it all.

A Decent Book

This wasn't a book I'd typically pick up. I wanted to challenge myself and start reading authors I'm unfamiliar with, and joined a reading challenge on Facebook.

I want to be frank: I struggled through the first 3rd of the book. I felt that there was a lot of storyline that could've been flushed out more to gain a better connection with the characters.

However, I did hit about halfway through the book, and couldn't put it down. Seeing the characters blossom actually helped me process some of my own personal demons.

One thing I notice a lot when reading books nowadays is that often, the grammar and spelling are typically in need of editing. One thing I can say about this book is that I didn't struggle through due to grammatical errors or spelling errors. It was a well written book.

I gave this 4 stars because I definitely think it should be read. I don't want to discourage anyone from reading this book. I would have probably rated 5 stars if the storyline was just a bit more flushed out. Great book overall!
