Custos Securities #2

Protecting Braden

Rate this book
Zavier “Cade” McCade, former Army Special Forces and creator of Custos Securities, finds himself in a situation he never thought he’d be in—he’s fallen in love with Braden Cross, the gorgeous pastry chef he’s guarding. Cade has lived his life as a protector: of his country, his family and friends, his clients, and now, the man he’s in love with. He thrives in dangerous and stressful situations. But nothing could prepare him for Braden’s decision to put himself in danger.

After a vicious attack from his stalker leaves Braden fighting for his life, Cade will stop at nothing to see the man responsible punished. Time passes, but Braden’s attacker hasn’t given up and Cade’s afraid he never will. As Cade and the most trusted members of Custos Securities track Braden’s assailant, Braden struggles to rebuild his life and re-establish the fragile trust he and Cade had worked so hard to build. Braden knows if he’s going to survive the chaos surrounding him, he’s going to have to give Cade everything he has—mind, body, and soul.

More determined than ever to hunt down the man that nearly killed the love of his life, Cade will do everything in his power to ensure that he and Braden will be able to live the life of their dreams with nothing and no one standing in their way. Meanwhile, hidden just out of their reach, an increasingly deranged stalker watches…and waits.

Author’s Note: Although this book can be read as a stand-alone, it is highly recommended that you read book 1, Trusting Cade, first. For those of you that prefer warnings—trigger or otherwise—use the “Look Inside” feature to find them within the first several pages. For those of you that prefer to be surprised, avoid the front matter of the book. . . Happy reading!

Luna David is a true romantic at heart who was fortunate enough to find and marry her soul mate. Most of the time she considers herself lucky to have been blessed with having g/b twins, but they're giving her a run for her money. She's a stay at home mom and an author, so when she's not begging her little monsters to behave, you'll most likely find her writing.

She loves anything book, coffee or dark chocolate related and can't think of a better way to pass the time than to combine all three. She reads romance novels voraciously and while she prefers contemporary romance with strong Alpha males finding their soul mates, she's a sucker for any well written, romantic story regardless of genre.

She created the Custos Securities Series because she loves to write what she loves to read. Her books feature strong dominant males and the men they would die protecting. Toss in some BDSM and kink and you've got her Catharsis Novel Series, The Boys Club Series, and Kink Chronicles Series. She loves nothing more than making her readers feel a wide range of emotions with her words. And she hopes you enjoy reading her books as much as she loved writing them. Happy Reading!

To better understand Protecting Braden, you should read Trusting Cade. You don't have to but you really should. Besides it being a wonderful book, you will get more details and understanding of Braden and Cade with it, along with the other characters in the book.

This book is amazing!!! All throughout the book, you can literally feel the love and emotions of these two. You will also get to see a more people and enjoy it so much more. Love, hot sexy times, family, and trust. It's just amazing!!!

Okay, I finally finished this book. Real life kept getting in the way, but honestly, I was kind of over it all. I really liked book one and started out liking this one but I felt like it dragged on a bit too long.

There's one really long sex scene near the end where that went on pages and pages and pages. I must admit I skimmed after a bit and was just ready for it to all be over.

I also felt like the whole thing with Maya could have been addressed a bit more. I'd rather have seen their wedding and the stuff with Maya than the really long sex scene. <----Yeah, didn't think I'd ever say that lol.

So, I enjoyed it but sadly, I didn't love it. There's definitely some interesting characters there that I hope get books in the future.

Unfounded.

Cade is more aggressive towards Braden, he really need some angry management, ASAP!!!

We got stuck with a lot o fillers during this book, dragged through unnecessary events!
Some pieces should be shorter so we could have the opportunity to enjoy more the important scenes.

I really enjoyed the sex scenes, there was a cringe moment after the longer one though.

I was happy that this one begins right were the last book ended.

The relationship between the men grows stronger even with the danger that is still surrounding them.

Braden is still recovering from his injuries he sustained from the last book and the encounter with his crazy ex. He's having some PTSD and having a hard time being away from Cade. His anxiety is high and his emotions are everywhere. He's having a hard time letting people be near him or touch him. What made me happy was that the things that happened to Braden didn't push him away from Cade but closer to him. It just would have been unnecessary drama and the more I don't have to read about that the better.

This book answers everything that was left unanswered in the first book. I was really happy that the this book shows how Braden and Cade are growing as a couple and individually. Braden takes his issues seriously and seeks help. We get to see him get introduced and fully taken in by the McCade clan. They are such a lovely family and I adored them all. Of course we see more Nana and you can't help but love that promiscuous old woman.

This book was not without it's ups and downs when it came to danger that Braden is still in and when the danger arouse it hit hard. But I liked that it wasn't drawn out and didn't feel OTT. It was well written and delivered.

This author has a great way of making her readers feel apart of the story and involved with the characters. I am truly enjoying this series.

If you haven't gave the series a chance I recommend you give it a try!

Happy reading dolls! xx

This is definitely one of my favorite romance books of 2021! I would highly recommend reading the first book then this one because it's following the same couple. I normally don't get excited when we follow couples in multiple books but this two books about Braden and Cade where so wonderful and intense. Though in parts and a lot of sweet moments. I'm a little weary of going into the third book with a different couple as I'm afraid I won't love the story as much as with these but I'm still hopeful I'll enjoy them

This book starts where Trusting Cade leaves off and finishes the saga of Braden's nutjob ex stalking him. While there is some BDSM and power exchange involved, I wouldn't describe the book as being about a D/s relationship. It's more an action-adventure romance in which the couple develops this relationship. You have to love Braden for his strength and his love and protective instincts where his family and friends are concerned. I listened to the audio and loved the narrator, Tristan James. He could read the phone book and I'd listen:) One thing I wish is that whoever chooses the pictures on the covers would make the models fit the characters. Braden is said to be about 8-10 years younger than Cade, which would make him 28 or 30...but the cover model makes him look about 14. In spite of that, the characters are fantastic, with great character growth. I love this whole group and am looking forward to more of them and I can't wait.

Nope I took a chance and failed. Book 1 was...different. I was leery of book 2 so it's no big loss that I couldn't keep with it. Off to the next!

The story continued with Cade and Braden - so much drama, like serious ongoing drama ! Really I was wondering how much a person could take, which is a lot in this book. Cade is the ultra strong protector and is super over the top. Braden seems to find trouble and suffers at the hands of his stalker. Between the two of them they love hard, are extremely sappy / sweet and seem to have no end to their patience and resilience!

It pains me to say this because I'm usually all puddle-of-want-and-need over this, but I don't really think the BDSM elements in this story were necessary.

Cade's kinkier side was dumped unceremoniously on the readers in the first five pages of Book 1 and then, other than one vague discussion which basically boiled down to "we'll get back to this later" and an overall controlling/protective vibe I associate with Doms, there wasn't a hint of it again until it felt crammed down my throat in the last 30 pages of this book. At that point, talk of blindfolds and safewords and contracts all felt so slapdash that I was not into it.

I also wasn't into Maya and Vaughn's budding relationship getting so much attention in the last few pages of the epilogue. I mean, back off lady - get your own novel! This epilogue was supposed to accomplish ONE THING and that was turn all the readers into a pile of goo and allow us to imagine what the rest of Cade and Braden's lives together were going to be like. That mission was accomplished, but the extreme hand holding and parental approvals surrounding Maya were distracting.

So... Will I continue to read books by this author? Probably not unless her writing skills improve by leaps and bounds. Dialogue is your friend, David! Embrace it. Nurture it. Use it to drive your plots and relationships forward.

I wish this had worked better for me but sadly if anything I liked it even less than the first book. The story had potential but unfortunately it got lost in the execution. I wanted characters that had depth and dimension, people who were relatable and felt real...sadly what I got felt pretty flat.

'Protecting Braden' was 10 hours and 30 minutes of a story that probably could have been told in 4 if we didn't have to listen to Cade and Braden repeatedly tell the world just how wonderful the other one was and how lucky they were to find each other and how much they loved each other...seriously I got the message after the first dozen or so times that I heard it and after a while I was definitely beginning to wonder who they were really trying to convince.

Unfortunately in spite of all the drama of Braden once again being kidnapped, people being shot, Braden back in the hospital yet again and on and on. Somehow it always felt like Cade and Braden were just carrying on with their ideal little lives and everything was sunshine, lollipops and roses and nothing really touched them...there were no gut clenching, riveting moments that left me feeling like anybody was ever truly at risk and considering some of what happened in this story...that's really kind of sad.

So, while I've still got the third book to listen to and as much as I do enjoy the narrator for this series I think I'm just going to tuck my rose colored glasses away for a bit and give this one a break before tackling that last story that hopefully will work a bit better for me...it's not the same MCs so I'm going to remain ever the optimist on this one.

I love this series, and this book is the perfect compliment to the amazing first book! Braden and Cade will captivate you like they did in the first book for sure! Luna David knows how to craft characters that stick with you long after you finish the book!!

Braden has been through a terrible ordeal after his kidnapping, and as he recovers his big bad bodyguard and lover Cade has vowed that nothing like this will ever happen to Braden again. With Braden's kidnapper still on the loose, can Cade keep that promise?

Braden is terrified but he is trying hard to be strong and assure Cade that he is ok, Braden is tougher than he looks though and he refuses to be a victim. Can Cade keep him safe? What will happen if he can't? Can these two be as close as they once were, or maybe even closer?

Man do you have to read this book, there is so much that I can't and won't spoil for you, just trust me, you will love it as much as I do! Thanks Luna, for a wonderful book and series we can't wait to read more of!!

Protecting Braden picks up where book 1 left off. Braden has finally woken up after being in a diabetic coma for days, grateful to see Cade by his side. After the violence he experienced at his stalker/kidnapper's hands, he's left plagued with pain and nightmares. When Braden is released from the hospital, Cade is determined that he will not leave Braden's side. While Eric is still on the loose, Braden is still in danger and they all know it's only a matter of time before the man tries once again to take Braden.

As the team at Custos Securities step in to keep Braden and his loved ones safe, working with the police to capture Eric, Cade helps to get Braden well. Braden's body is healing but he'll discover it's not as easy to heal the mind. It's obvious Braden is suffering from PTSD, but with Cade doing everything in his power to support Braden and offer him safety and security, Braden and Cade find themselves falling even more in love with one another.

The couple is determined to start building their life together and begin to plan for the future. Unfortunately they're not the only ones making plans. Eric is even more determined to get Braden and he won't let anyone stand in his way. Will Braden be able to survive what Eric has planned this time? Or will the future he and Cade have begun to plan be destroyed?

Wow, this was a great continuation of Book 1 and the beginning of a very thrilling series. I loved how we got a chance to really see the healing process for Braden after the trauma he has and is still experiencing at the hands of Eric. Cade makes Braden his main focus and allows his best friend and business partner, Cooper to head up the case instead of insisting he be the one to do it. This allows him and Braden to get closer and focus more on Braden's physical and emotional needs as well as their relationship.

This is definitely a roller coaster ride of action, romance, drama and passion. We are introduced to Cade's family who I loved. And it gives us a chance to meet new characters who we'll get to know even better in upcoming books.

Overall, this was a great conclusion to Braden and Cade's story while setting us up for the next. And I just have to say I'm anticipating the next book to be a must read.

4.5 Stars!

This is Luna David’s second book in her Custos Securities Series. Book one, Trusting Cade, left us with a bit of a cliffhanger. This of course made all us readers light torches and look for the author. She’s since come out of hiding and with that has come the answers to our questions.

Cade, as you may know, is Braden’s protector and partner. In book one on top of trying to keep Braden safe from a violent stalker, they fall in love. And the ending, well, it was a HFN… until now. We got our answers, we get that balm to our burn and with that, a great story.

It’s not often we get to see two characters live their lives after the I love you’s are said and the future seems all but written. Here we do. There’s A LOT of healing to be done. A lot! But with that we get a deeper love, hope for a better future, and new characters. Those new characters will be vital in future books so pay attention. This is a series after all. No one knows what Luna will do next!

I will tell you this, I got quite frustrated with Braden at a point in this book I resorted to taking out the bubble wrap and popping while I read. It was serious! But Luna did something that I rarely see authors do. After the fact. When lives were spared, things were calm. She addressed the faults of the characters. She showed communication. She didn’t just make us re-love Braden or Cade or anyone else that angered us (aside from jerky stalkerface) she realized there wouldn’t be closure if it wasn’t talked about. I can’t tell you how much I loved that. So no matter the frustration you feel toward anyone, just you wait and see how awesome Luna David handles it.

This is not just an entertaining series it’s engaging. You are so entwined in these character’s lives you feel like you’re a part of their family. That makes you invested. Luna best be writing more of these books or I’ll have to go all Misery on her butt! I know what characters will get page time, as you will too when you meet them. Oh the possibilities. And that is what makes a series great. The want and the possibilities. This isn’t a tired story, these aren’t exhausting characters, there is no boringness that will make you seek out distractions. This is wonderful and all the things a book is supposed to be.
I can’t wait for more Cade, Braden and gang! I just really can not wait to see what Luna will do next!!!

Make sure you have your tissues ready!!
Protecting Braden takes up from where Trusting Cade left off.
After Braden’s nana, his best friend Maya and the love of is life Cade are threatened, Braden was kidnapped by his ex-boyfriend Eric who has been stalking him since they split up. Not only has Eric been stalking Braden he has also raped and beaten him.
As a consequence of the kidnapping and not having his insulin for so long Braden has been taken to hospital in a diabetic coma as he’s a type 1 diabetic. Braden is in the coma for several days before he wakes up and then he has to explain to Cade how Eric managed to kidnap him.
Cade turns over the investigation to Cooper, his partner in Custos Securities, so he can concentrate on getting Braden out of hospital. Braden has been diagnosed with PTSD, along with a concussion, broken wrist and multiple other injuries. Cade goes out of his way to make sure Braden has everything he needs to get better. Over the next several months as Braden is recovering him and Cade also use the time to get to know each other and incredibly, they manage fall in love deeper than what they already were. Things are getting back to normal, Braden is thinking Eric has freaked out and dissappeared but Cade knows that he’s only hiding and waiting for his chance to get Braden.
Unfortunately this isn’t the last of Braden and Cades dealings with Eric. Things take a decidedly deadly turn for Braden which not only makes everyone in their familys, work and personal band together to help Cade protect and care for Braden, it makes Cade more obessed with making sure nothing would ever happen to Braden if he could help it. The love these two men have for each other literally leaps off the pages at you.
I must say for being Luna David’s second book Protecting Braden is just as good if not better than Trusting Cade. I can’t wait for the third installment of the Custos Securities Series, Saving Sebastian. If you haven’t read Trusting Cade I strongly urge you to, it’s an absolutely brilliant book! I have no hesitation in recommending Protecting Braden to one and all.

Perfect!

I loved the first book and loved this one too! Braden and Cade are perfect together and I love their story. I can't wait for the next one in the series so I hope Luna is busy writing!

Audio review:
I love this series but didn't have time to read the books so I thought I would listen to the audio. I won't listen to it again. I highly recommend reading these books instead of listening.

First, as stated in my review for the first book, BRADEN IS NOT SOUTHERN, but his accent is by this narrator. It's a southern, damsel in distress type of voice and annoying! Again, read the books. Many of the character voices sound the same so you can't lose yourself in the story. And then, at times, the narrator is robotic. And you could tell this was nothing more than reading a script. During high stressful, action packed parts of this story, it was just the normal monotone with no real inflection. I love audiobooks because they bring the story to life. That is not what happened with this series. This is only the third time I've listened to this narrator, and the last. I think not every listener and narrator works, so your experience may be different. But, definitely read the books if you haven't. I still love them despite my feelings on this audio.

Overall: 5 stars (I refuse to take stars away for the audio issues.
Performance: 1 star
Story: 5 stars

Even better than the first

Oh wow, I loved Trusting Cade, it was a solid 4 star read for me because the story was so good but this book surpassed it by far. Not just because the story was fantastic (And that last sex scene seriously gave me goose bumps and a hot flash lol) but Luna David's writing improved so much. Watch out world, she's upped her game and I can't wait to see what she brings us with Gideon and Sebastian.

I'm writing one long review for both books because they were basically the same story. his should have been one book and shorter. The first one ends on a major cliffhanger and halfway through the second one the plot is done. At that point it's just boring get to know the characters stuff. Also, throughout the first book I felt like I was reading a sequel to something.

My rough notes completely unedited:

2 and 1/2 Stars rounded up to 3 because of a wonderful ending. I finished my review of the first book by saying that Cade and Braden deserved a second book. They might, but this isn’t the book.

I went from loving Cade to thinking him a total ass. He used his family’s prestige and money to threaten people. He claimed to be protecting Braden, but he was so careless he didn’t even notice the effect he was having on him when telling him about his stalker. He kept thing from Braden, but then would tell him at the worst times. Also, if this was the best job Custos Securities could do protecting someone they are a terrible securities company. The stalker ran rings around them. They could never figure out where he was, but he was watching them all the time.

I was disappointed in Braden as well. He should have been furious when he found out that Cade had kept being shot from.

I didn’t think Luna David could write a book I didn’t like, but she did. Part of the problem was I felt like I was reading the first book over again. Practically the same things happened again. If she had just taken the last of this book and added it to the first one it would have been a 5 star book.

I’m glad that I had read the third book in this series first because I might have skipped it otherwise. It’s a wonderful book.

Wonderful follow-up

I read this book a couple of years ago and didn't leave a review. I reread to prepare for the newest one in the series, and am glad I did.
This starts where Trusting Cade leaves off and finishes the saga of Braden's nutjob ex stalking him.
While there is some BDSM and power exchange involved, I wouldn't describe the book as being about a D/s relationship. It's more an action adventure romance in which the couple develops a D/s relationship.
While some of it is more telling than showing, I enjoyed the ride as much as I did the first time I read it. If size differences and a protective, growly big guy who's gone for the smaller guy, you want to start with Trusting Cade and then read this book.

This book is a sequel to the first. Really, a duet because it picks up where it left off.

This is very boring, unnecessarily, not well written, thank God it's free on KU or I would have been crying.

I can't believe I even finished this book. Truly one of the most pointless and boring romance novels I've ever read IML

(SOME SPOILERS IF YOU HAVENT READ BOOK 1)

LUNA DAVID I SALUTE YOU!!

WOW this was a complete rollercoaster! I was happy, then sad, then worried, then happy again LOL you had me on the edge of my seat!.
I love seeing Authors grow as they produce their new material and I think this is the case here.
This book was complex in the way that the first book was extremely good and extremely well written and I sometimes worry when I have to read a sequel that the story wont draw me in the same way.
Well, fear not readers as this story was bigger and better (if you can make something that was already great even better).

We start this story pretty much from the nail biting ending where Braden, after being abducted by his ex-lover Eric and experiencing a horrifying ordeal, is fighting for his life and our poor Zavier is ready to blow a gasket. I wanted to scream at Luna for leaving me in such a state after the first book. I do apologise for my incessant messages asking when we were getting our second instalment.
Alas, it is here!

From the very first page the story goes full speed and steam ahead and we are transported to the most romantic and exciting story. Braden has to come to terms with the repercussions of his actions, a sense of guilt is his constant companion, not only does he have to deal with the scars and physical injuries from his ordeal but also with the emotional baggage from the abuse that he has endured.

As we follow the aftermath of Braden's abduction and what his family and friends are prepared to do for him, we cant help but fall head over heels for both characters and with the new ones introduced in this book, the McCade siblings are a force not to be reckoned with, they all have taken to Braden who is equally smitten with Zavier's family. Not only do we feel heartbroken for Bray but Zavier is the epitome of Protection. The couple have to trust each other, their instincts and their newly found feelings in order to stay alive and a step ahead of Eric who is still lurking in the shadows and more determined than ever to get Braden back.
Zavier on the other hand will stop at nothing to make sure Braden is safe, even at the cost of his own life.

A fantastic end to a wonderful story and a must read for lovers of a good MM book. Thank You Luna!

♥.•*¨)☆♡¸.•*´¨)☆♡¸.•♥*´¨)☆♡♥
♡☆(¸.•♥´ They were finally getting their forever after.

Book one ended on a HFN and my review, Trusting Cade Review was hot on wanting this book stat!! And then the book came out months later and I was too vested in other projects that I just had no time. Going through my kindle looking for a read led me to this book and boy am I glad to rediscover Braden and Cade all over again.

Bray and Cade were made for each other and it was proven time and time again as Cade became the protector all over again as our author placed Bray in situations no one should have to endure. There was once again suspense, and rescues and drama and hot man on man action. Hell, almost every time these two got together they exuded heat.

Readers got even more in depth with the men's lives and how they relied on one another even when they were not sure the other could handle the situation. The sweetest words other than I love yous was the simple He's become my everything. Swoon worthy. The secondary characters helped pulled the story together and were an active role once again. Finn, Cade's doctor brother, requires kudos for the way he handled the situation as a medical profession he should not have been placed in. There are reasons we are not supposed to have a hand in family emergencies.

The best part of Protecting Braden was the ending and I was like, finally!!

Luna David brings home a powerful ending to a good story. There is more to come and I cannot wait for Saving Sebastian. Sebastian is the police artist who had such good connection with Braden, but there was something that was happening that needed to be told. He will be paired with Cade's eldest brother Gideon, the strong silent type who expressed wanting what Bray and Cade had. From my read it is obvious that these two men are hurting and needing something that only Luna can give them.

Unfortunately, I feel the second book lost its way.

The ongoing conflict from the first book is the main plot for the second book. It got a little old.

I was tiring of reading about it, honestly. It felt like nothing was happening for a big chunk of the book, just Braden freaking out and Cade comforting him.

I love hurt/comfort, but after awhile I was over it and wanted to move on. How many times did I have to read about Braden panicking and Cade telling him to breathe?

Once the conflict is resolved, we get about 20% of just Cade and Braden living life. That’s a large chunk if you ask me.

Once the conflict was resolved, the rest of the book felt like filler. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy seeing them in a relationship without the threat of danger hanging over them, but I didn’t need 20% of it.

I also felt that the “BDSM” portion of their relationship was strange. It’s sort of just thrown in there. We get a lot of telling and not showing, with only one scene that I would classify as BDSM, and it was very tame (light restraints and sensory play, no actual sex in the scene).

As much as they talked about having this dynamic, we really do not see it much at all.

So Braden suddenly calling Cade “sir” during sex in the last 15% of the book felt out of place.

It feels like this aspect was really just kind of thrown in there, and while I appreciated that we were told how they got to that point, it didn’t do it for me. The telling and not showing was detrimental in this case.

I truly feel the book would have been better off without this. It just didn’t fit them.

Overall, I was a bit disappointed in this book.

The first and second books could have very easily been condensed into one, and I found myself skimming through all the unnecessary scenes in the second book.

This new installment in the Custos Securities series starts right where book 1 ended, with Braden in a diabetic comma and his stalker/ex-boyfriend Eric having escaped. Braden needs to deal with the PTSD his kidnapping left him with, as well, as recuperate from his injuries, as Cade leaves the running of Custos Securities and finding Eric before he finds Braden again to Cooper and his employees, so he can concentrate on helping Braden heal.

This book was amazing! I just love Cade and the way he treats Braden. He's gentle, loving, supporting, leaving everything behind just to be there for Braden. He's dominating in the bedroom, but always careful to try and not be so overbearing and dominating in their everyday lives. He just broke my heart in one particular scene, but it never felt over the top, it fit perfectly with his characterization from the beginning of the series. I like Braden, even if there were a couple of times that I just wanted to slap some sense into him. Together, these two are dynamite and I just adored seeing them in any setting, since they just fit. There's a very fine line between just perfect and overbearingly sweet, and Luna David managed to stay in the just perfect line with these two.

It was a delight to catch up with all the gang and of course, witness what happened with the odious Eric. I will be eagerly waiting for Sebastian and Gideon's book!

All in all, a fabulous read, well-written and very detailed, with great twists that kept me intrigued until the very last page. Definitely recommendable!

WOW, WOW OMG FREAKING GOD !!!!
I was waiting for this book to come out and it was so over the top wonderful. If you didn't love Brae and Cade from the first book, you would in this one. It was a terrific book to wrap up their epic love story. I just couldn't put it down.
Bravo, hands done one of the best books I have read in a long time. I must admit I was a bit upset when the first book ended in a cliff hanger but this book so redeemed that.
So bring on the rest of Custos Securities, can't wait for the next great adventure.
