I got this book and then read the note the author wrote at the beginning that this story should be read after Leap of Faith, book 1 in the series. I have a slight OCD issue about series of standalones and already feel that I must start at the beginning, so I did- I went back and read Leap of Faith first. While I am glad that I did, I felt like there was too much scattered throughout. By making this story two books- and having them told out of chronological order (which doesn't bother me if done ...more

After being abandoned by the mother of his daughter, Jake Duval will do whatever is necessary to take care of his baby girl, Rylee. With the help of his parents, Jake takes on being a single father while juggling work, school, and the military. His focus was on his daughter and his career; he wanted nothing to do with women or the hurt they cause. Enter Faith. Faith brings the chaos and love that Jake didn't realize he and Rylee were missing. Things were not perfect, but they were perfect for ea ...more

This book is about Jake Duval. You meet Jake when he is still very young and has just become a single dad. His exgirlfriend feels that she is too young to be a mother. He takes on his responsibilities with help from his loving parents to raise his little girl. Rylee is his world and he will do anything to make sure she has everything she wants and needs. I really enjoyed this book..and would give it 4-4.5 stars
i did worry at the beginning for two reasons...
a. the author felt the need to explain the military her..which lost me so I was worried the book would too - I needn't have worried as it mostly became clear as I read and what didn't, I didn't feel was imperative to the story. I'm not sure the explanations were needed as most things were explained as they were brought into the story, but some readers may like the initial insight.

The author warns you at the beginning of the book that this is a prequel and it is best to read the other books in the series first. I of course did not follow this advice and because of this, it was a bit choppy for me. The story was good, the grammar was good, order was good. I had issues connecting with the characters thought. I think they lacked a depth. Not so much that its a bad book. It really is a good book. And I liked the characters for the most part. I just didn't connect.

Oh God, this is a gut wrenching, heart breakingly beautiful book. The author warns you not to read it first, to read her other books before you read this one, and damn, she isn't kidding. Jake and Faith's story is just gorgeous. Jake's story is amazing. He is so young when he becomes a father and what he goes through and gives up to give his little girl, Rylee a home and a strong feeling of love and family is above and beyond. When he lays eyes on Faith the first time, he knows she's the one for ...more

I've had family in different branches of the military but I have never seen how it impacts a family personally. The deployments, the moving, the secrets kept from the family that waits for you at home. I feel like this book showed me a side to military life I may not have otherwise known.
ML Rodriguez spins a well written tale of courage, sacrifice, heart break, and tragedy. That ending is definitely a tear jerker.

I was fortunate enough to have read Leap of Faith first from the author. This I Promise You is Jake’s story told from his point of view and starting when he became a single father. The story had a lot of positive things including depicting a father sticking around and raising his daughter and bettering himself to give her a good life. Jake is definitely a strong family man. Unfortunately, it just seemed to repeat too much of Leap of Faith.

This book was so relatable to me for I grew up as a Army kid and everything in this book was on point. I loved the opening pages and the story of Jake and faith is just so good. I love the way the author wrote this book it had me so in glanced the whole time. This author did such a great job that I would read more of her books.

The story of love and family that spans over decade. This is not your typical love story and does not have HEA. Beginning with a young man who assumes the responsibility of raising his newborn daughter on his own, he later meets the love of his life and we follow them through the journey of their marriage. The story started off a bit slow for me and I struggled to connect with characters. I felt there were some important events that were never fully explained, the story stopped to abruptly for m ...more

I sit here with tears in my eyes, trying to find the right words for my review. I am the wife of a soldier. I knew my husband when I was in high school, but we lost contact for many years. I met someone, got pregnant, and he was killed in a car accident when our daughter was 10 months old. My now husband and I reconnected when my daughter was 5. He instantly took her in. He is who she calls daddy now. We've been married for 8 years, and she asked me the other day if daddy could adopt her. So, th ...more

I liked the story, I will say I didn't read them in order though. I grew up in a military family, so I was already familiar with the terms, and how things run. That slowed me down some, but overall a good book. Will definitely be getting the other two books.

This is a sweet story of a man's love and commitment: to his country and to his family. Jake becomes a single teenage father and decides he also wants to defend his country. This book is mostly about Jake's military life, including meeting the love of his life, who also becomes a mother to his daughter, Rylee.

Whew, this book was a rollercoaster of emotions. This is a semi-familiar story we have read about parts of Jake’s journey in Faith and Julia’s story, there is so much more to this book than those pieces though. This is Jake’s journey from the start of adulthood. This is a story of love an

This story is the story I didn't know needed to be told. I can see why it was needed.

Jake, is the ideal book boyfriend; loving, responsible, trustworthy, and honest.

M.L. Rodriguez takes on a beautiful journey of a man who had lost his faith in woman, only to find the meaning of life in FAITH. From a young age Jake took life by the horns and manned up when many would of fled and taken the easy road. Not this man, not Jake. He knew what he wanted, knew the challenges he faced, the battle ahead and

If you are reading this first, before Leap of Faith, then you are getting to know the wonderment that is Jake. Being inside his head, seeing the world through his eyes. Feeling the love he has for Faith and Rylee. If you are reading this last then you know how the story goes for Faith and now you can see the world from his side.

This man is a warrior, a lover, a father and a husband. He is phenomenal. His strength and determination are amazing. His future is written and the shadow hangs above hi

HOLY WOW, having read both book previously written by this author, I was so excited to read Jakes story from the beginning.
Having read Leap of Faith, I knew what the outcome would be, up to a point. But this books takes us back to before Jake met Faith. It is a truly amazing story, and really clever how the author has written it. I fell in love with both Jake and Faith, I always wanted to know more about them, now I do and I am so happy.
I really can’t wait to read more books I this series, hin

Dear Reader,

Jake Duval's story is a detour from my usual story writing. Though I hope you will shed some tears and enjoy the romance within the book, please be aware this story is written for the most part in the male POV (my first attempt, and I hope I did decent job bringing you Jake's side). Second, according to the RWA definition of romance, this story does not fully qualify as one due to certain material presented in the novel. Despite these two points, I hope you enjoy reading Jake's stor

I absolutely loved and adored This I promise you!

M.L. Rodriguez is 3/3 for the heart squeezes she causes. This beautiful story full of rollercoaster as ML delivers a story full of romance. The characters are extremely developed as you can’t help but fall in love with Jake. From his desire to give his daughter and to his delivery he is impeccable. His ability to fall instantly in love with the lovely heroine Faith ( HOW FREAKING BEFITTING ML!!) to his dedication to his daughter, I can’t help but

What can I say...Just oh my...
This book is about Jake and Faith written in Jake's POV.
Although we met both these characters in Leap Of Faith, this is the story of how they met. Having known the outcome doesn't lessen the impact of this book at all. Even when you know what's coming the heartache and devastation still hits hard. Warning you'll need plenty of Kleenex for this book. Beautifully written it's a great read. Highly recommend this book and series.

The book started off pretty good. And parts of it were great. (That ending!!) But there was a conflict that wasn't explained and I just didn't feel connected to any of the characters. I didn't feel chemistry. It was love/lust at first sight.

This I Promise You by author, M.L. Rodriguez was one of the most emotional books I have ever read. I was introduced to the writing of M.L. Rodriguez through this book. I have never been a fan of military romance books but this book changed my perspective. I'm also not a fan of ugly cry books but when reading this book it was inevitable. The story of Jake and Faith was so emotional from page one until the end. Jake's love for his daughter, Rylee was a love that everyone wishes for from their fath ...more

This was my first M.L. Rodriguez book and I wish I had followed the advice of the Author and read the Leap of Faith book first. The beginning of the book was a little slow for me and I wasn't clear as to exactly what was going on with Jake at first. The book also spans 10 years or so from when Jake and Faith first met through their marriage and I had trouble connecting to the characters. I did enjoy that the story was told through Jake's POV as a single dad and military man. I may have had troub ...more

Well written literate book, choppy in the beginning. Loved the characters, bitter single abandoned father with daughter to bring up, meets his destiny in Faith. Sad, adult themes for mature reader. Look forward to reading more from this author.
