This was a great overview of women from the beginning of Scotland's time through myths and legends all the way up to current time. I purchased this book for research in a historical fiction book based in 11th century Scotland and it was very useful in my research, though the majority of the book's stories of women take place after the 15th century.

Very ambitious and extremely interesting. Writing is uneven making it hard to get through in spots. Definitely worth a read and gives a good overall description of the tenacity of Scottish women!

Peccato.

An insightful look at the history, culture, and women of Scotland. Perhaps not grippingly told, but very informative and a good starting point for those who wish to study more about the subject. A good bibliography is included which should aid in research. Although told in broad strokes, there are some delicious tidbits to enjoy on this historic journey. My thanks to the author for telling the stories of these heroic Scottish women.

An interesting read. Fascinating to read if you are keen on the history of women's roles, especially in the early centuries. A good one to have on the bookshelf if you are a writer of historical fiction and would like some character inspiration.

This book is quite convincing that most women in Scottish history led very difficult lives. I was more intrigued by the later chapters in which women had a much larger repertoire of possible roles.

I really enjoyed learning about the unsung women of Scotland that are often lost to history. The author did a great job of mixing humor with the realities of life in the past. The narrator on the audiobook was great and brought a lot of depth to the stories she was telling.

This was an interesting book, one of those books you see on Kindle Unlimited and decide to try. Swift writes about some Scottish women who are well known but also includes sketches of women that history seems to have largely forgotten about. Using the historical timeline of Scotland, Swift presents women in their time and place, making them feel real to the reader. If you are interested in Scottish History, social life, and women's roles in both, Women of Scotland is a great choice.
