This is a collection of accounts of the earliest expeditions into the Olympic Mountain Range on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. Two complete journals from 1878 Press Expedition are included. Also the Wickersham Expeditions, The Return of Press Expedition, the Gilman Explorations, Banta and Sharp Explorations and others. Original photos and engravings are also included and a complete Bibliography. These explorers were amazingly strong in mind and body and withstood difficulties that are hard to imagine today. Certainly great reading about these resilient people. Lots of explanations in foot notes where places or conditions needed to be explained further. I was given the book by a friend and didn't think I would like it because I tend to think I don't like history books. But it was a wonderful set of stories that are well worth reading. I really liked it.
