For a pet care book, this was extremely informative. Almost any book I've picked up on rodents (I've read ones on mice and hamsters) were short and made pet care seem easier and less time consuming. I applaud the author for pointing out the disadvantages, attention and time commitment along with the usual "yay furry" stuff.

It's a small but very informative book. I have 2 guinea pigs and this has been by far the most helpful book I've read.

Of course, you have YouTube and forums that are specifically for guinea pigs.

I recommend this book if you are starting or if you are a veteran guinea pig owner, you don't get tired of learning about them.

Admittedly did not fact-check (or finish), but I got what I needed to know, which is I figured from what I remembered of sixth grade that a guinea pig was only slightly more maintenance than gerbils, but that seems to be a COMPLETELY MISTAKEN memory based on the fact I only saw the class guinea pig... during class. (I took care of the gerbils once, then took one of the babies home when they bred.)

Basically, the book answered my question of, "Can I just get a slightly big cage and sometimes take the guinea pig out for exercise?" Answer: Please don't have only one, and also your sixth grade guinea pig REALLY should've had a bigger cage than THAT.

There's a lot more information, of course, and it appears to be very detailed and researched, with lovely photos as well. I just kind of skimmed those parts once I decided it wasn't worth the effort of getting one (without devoting a whole room we don't have to just the guinea pig(s)).

What this tells me is I should REALLY petition my spouse to let me have a cat after all, since I already know what those are like. :D (was trying to find a medium between "live for like three years" gerbils and cat)
